Abstract

Tension-Type Headache (TTH) is a critical health problem, particularly in Indonesia, with psychological stress being the most recognized contributing factor. The mechanism by which stress contributes to TTH is not fully understood, but stress has been found to increase pain sensitivity in peripheral or central patients with TTH, alongside the influence of biopsychosocial factors in different individuals. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between the degree of psychological stress and pain intensity in patients with TTH at Dr. H. Moch Ansari Saleh Banjarmasin General Hospital. This observational analytic study was carried out using a cross-sectional approach and the 30 samples employed were taken through a systematic random sampling technique. The data was analyzed using Spearman's test. Our result showed that 63.33% of patients had mild stress, while 36.67% were moderate. In the mild stress group, there were 15.79% mild pain, 73.68% moderate pain, and 10.53% severe pain. Meanwhile, in the moderate stress group, 72.73% reported moderate pain, and 27.27% had severe pain. In conclusion, this study indicated there was a correlation between the degree of psychological stress and the intensity of pain in TTH patients, despite not statistically significant (p=0.102 and R=0.304).

Abstract

Dementia is a brain disorder that causes a decline in memory, thinking ability, and behavior, which significantly affects the quality of life of older adults. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO, 2023), more than 55 million people worldwide live with dementia, and this number continues to increase, particularly in low- and middle-income countries such as Indonesia. The low level of public awareness regarding the early symptoms of dementia has led to many undetected cases. This community service activity aimed to provide education about dementia to the congregation of Al Jihad Mosque in Banjarmasin and to conduct cognitive function screening using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) as an early detection effort. The activity was carried out on September 20, 2025, at Al Jihad Mosque, Banjarmasin, through educational sessions and dementia screening performed by a neurologist. A total of 49 participants took part in the activity, the majority aged 60–74 years (63.2%). The results showed that 97.9% of participants had normal cognitive function, while 2.0% exhibited a tendency toward cognitive impairment. These findings indicate the importance of routine screening among the elderly population, even when general cognitive function appears normal. This activity demonstrates that a faith-based community approach is effective in increasing awareness and promoting dementia prevention at the community level. Keywords:

Abstract

Background: Ischemic stroke disrupts blood flow to the brain, leading to decreased motor function, particularly in the hands. Based on previous studies, a detailed and objective description of hand function at each phase of the Brunnstrom stage has not been studied. Aim(s): This study assessed hand function in post-stroke patients at Bhayangkara Tk III Banjarmasin Hospital throughout each phase of the Brunnstrom stages. Material and methods: This observational descriptive research employed a cross-sectional design. We utilized primary data through observations using the Sollerman Hand Function Test. The sample comprised 50 post-ischemic stroke patients at the Physical Rehabilitation Clinic of Bhayangkara Tk III Banjarmasin Hospital between August and October 2024, selected via purposive sampling. Result: This study indicated that 46 patients (92%) had poor hand function, while 4 (8%) had good function. The majority were in Brunnstrom phase VI (50%), followed by phase V (22%), phase III (18%), phase IV (6%), and phase II (4%). All subjects in phases II to V exhibited poor hand function. In phase VI, 4 individuals (16%) demonstrated good hand function, while 21 (84%) had poor function. Conclusions: The findings conclude that the majority of ischemic stroke patients exhibit poor hand function, highlighting the need for targeted rehabilitation strategies. Healthcare facilities should educate patients on independent motor exercises, particularly for hand function, and encourage them to follow these exercises consistently to enhance recovery.
