Abstract

This autoethnographic study explores the dynamics of teaching English to two homeschool students, aged 6 and 13, within their home environment, focusing on personalized instructional strategies. The researcher, serving as both teacher and observer, examines the interplay of the students' unique learning styles, preferred teaching resources, and attention spans. Student A, a kinesthetic learner, benefits from interactive games and physical activities, while Student B, a visual learner, excels with structured lessons and visual aids. The use of diverse online resources, such as British Council and Duolingo, enhances engagement through gamification and multimedia elements. The study highlights the necessity of adaptable teaching methods to address varying attention spans, with Student A requiring frequent activity changes and Student B benefiting from periodic breaks during in-depth exploration. The findings underscore the effectiveness of tailored educational approaches in fostering student engagement and learning outcomes. By documenting and reflecting on these experiences, the study contributes to the broader field of educational research, advocating for the integration of personalized and technologically enriched teaching strategies in homeschooling settings. This research affirms the transformative potential of individualized instruction in nurturing academic growth and a lifelong love for learning. Keywords: Autoethnography, homeschooling, English for Young Learners, personalized instruction, educational technology.

Abstract

This ethnographic study investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in creative pedagogy for Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) at SD Tahfidz Al Basyir, Bogor. The research explores how AI tools, such as adaptive learning systems and ChatGPT, are employed alongside creative teaching methods to enhance language acquisition and foster creativity among children. Findings reveal that AI significantly contributes to personalized learning, increased student engagement, and the provision of immediate feedback, thereby improving the overall learning experience. However, the study identifies key challenges, including limited access to AI tools, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient teacher training, which hinder effective AI integration. The research underscores the pivotal role of teachers in mediating AI use and recommends targeted professional development programs to equip educators with the necessary skills. This study not only enhances understanding of AI’s role in creative language pedagogy but also offers practical strategies to optimize AI-based teaching practices, particularly in resource-constrained settings, while addressing equity and accessibility issues.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning, aiming to understand how AI influences teacher-student dynamics, the ethical challenges involved, and students' perceptions of AI in the classroom. The research adopts a qualitative ethnographic approach, engaging with 220 students and 58 lecturers from universities in the Jabodetabek region. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, focusing on the integration of AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gamma. Thematic analysis was employed to identify key patterns in teacher-student interactions, ethical concerns, and student engagement. Findings indicate that AI enhances student autonomy and learning personalization while reducing the direct communication between teachers and students. Ethical challenges identified include data privacy concerns, the risk of over-dependency on AI, and the potential dehumanization of the learning process. From the student perspective, AI reduces language anxiety and increases engagement through flexible, personalized learning experiences, but some students miss the emotional connection traditionally provided by human teachers. The study concludes that while AI offers significant educational benefits, careful consideration must be given to maintaining ethical standards and human-centered teaching practices. Future research should focus on integrating AI tools that support not only cognitive learning but also emotional and ethical aspects to ensure balanced educational outcomes.

Abstract

This study analyzes the discourse on da'i (Islamic preacher) certification through the lens of public literacy by critically examining the Hotroom podcast. The certification of da'i has become a significant discourse in Indonesia, aiming to enhance the professionalism of Islamic preaching, moderate religious teachings, and curb the spread of radicalism. However, the policy has sparked controversy concerning the freedom of religious expression and the plurality of Islam. The Hotroom podcast, as a digital medium, serves as an interactive forum that brings together diverse perspectives from legislators, religious scholars, and the public. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and critical discourse analysis, this study investigates the narratives, rhetoric, and ideologies embedded in the discussions around da'i certification. The findings reveal two dominant narratives: a positive narrative that supports certification as a step toward the professionalization of dakwah (Islamic preaching), and a critical narrative that rejects the policy on the grounds that it restricts freedom of speech. Community-based alternatives, such as non-formal training and standardization, are proposed to maintain inclusivity and local relevance. The analysis highlights the importance of collaboration between the government, religious organizations, and civil society in designing adaptive and tolerant religious policies. As a medium of public literacy, the podcast proves effective in presenting complex issues reflectively, fostering democratic dialogue, and promoting critical public awareness. This research contributes to the development of humanistic and adaptable religious policymaking in the digital age.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) among university students (Indonesia and English study Programs). Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected from 300 students across multiple institutions in the Jabodetabek region. The study examines how AI tools, such as chatbots and adaptive learning platforms, influence students' anxiety levels during foreign language learning. Key findings indicate that AI reduces FLA by providing personalized learning experiences, real-time feedback, and low-pressure environments for language practice. However, some students reported increased anxiety due to the perceived constant monitoring and the lack of human interaction. The study concludes that while AI offers significant benefits in reducing anxiety, it also introduces new forms of stress, particularly related to technological engagement. This paper contributes to the existing literature by addressing the emotional dimensions of AI integration in language education, providing insights for educators on how to balance AI tools with human interaction to maximize the learning experience. Future research should focus on developing AI tools that integrate emotional support alongside cognitive feedback to further mitigate FLA.
