Abstract

This research aims to describe the career path of achievement of volleyball student-athletes from the State University of Malang based on the chronological timeline of achievements in the volleyball championship. This research uses visual research methods (VRM), where data is processed into visual form, namely a timeline graph of achievements. The participants are men's and women's volleyball athletes from the State University of Malang class of 2018-2020 from various faculties with active student status. The achievement data were collected using a questionnaire and given to athletes digitally through Google Forms, then their answers were visualized in timeline graphs. The timeline graphs show the record of athlete achievements chronologically from high school (or equivalent) to college. The graphs were produced and then analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results showed three patterns in the timeline of athlete achievements: 1) progressive/increase pattern, 2) descending patterns, and 3) stagnation patterns. Implications of this study are: 1) beneficial to understand what factors affect changes in athlete achievements, 2) as reminders for athletes to keep tracking their achievements and develop strategies to improve them; 3) as input for coaches to develop future training programs to improve student-athlete achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI), physical activity, and dietary habits of students at SMPN 1 Karangploso. This study used several analyses’ such as the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, linearity test, multicollinearity test, heteroscedasticity test, bivariate analysis using simple regression test, and multivariate analysis using multiple regression test. The simple linear regression resulted from 2 models that showed how strong the relationship between physical activity on BMI and dietary habits on BMI is. The model results were respectively and those models indicated a negative relationship between physical activity on BMI and a positive relationship between dietary habit on BMI. While resulting from a model relationship towards BMI value along with a positive relationship between dietary habit and BMI value.  Since it got an R-value of 0,754, this result is accurate enough. In conclusion, according to the regression methods used in this study, there is a real relationship between physical activity, dietary habits, and BMI values. Thus, it means that physical activity and dietary habits have an influence on determining overweight status in 13-15-year-old boys and girls.

Abstract

Background: Pencak silat, as a competitive sport, has a high risk of injury. However, data on its characteristics and causative factors during pre-match and matches in East Java are still limited. Objective: This study aims to identify the characteristics and incidence of injuries in adult sparring category pencak silat athletes in East Java during training and matches. Methods: Using a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional survey approach. Data were collected through a survey distributed to 100 athletes (61 men and 31 women) aged 17-22 years from 11 cities/districts in East Java, including information on injury characteristics and causal factors. Result: The results showed that the most dominant injuries that occurred during pre-match were blisters on the fingers (32%), bruises on the arms (38%), sprains on the lower legs (26%), and sprains on the ankles (33%), the leading causes were technical errors, lack of warm-up, and lack of facilities and infrastructure. During matches, the most common injuries were lower limb bruises (48%), ankle sprains (29%), and head/face abrasions (12%), which were caused by punching power, technical errors, and takedowns. While serious injuries such as dislocations and fractures had a low percentage, they had a significant impact on the athletes' performance. Conclusion: Overall, the findings suggest that the lower extremities are more susceptible to injury. The types of injuries varied, ranging from minor to severe. Initial treatment for minor injuries typically involves the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) method, whereas severe injuries require further medical attention to prevent serious complications.
