Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the innovation in learning and accessibility for students with disabilities in the implementation of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic at one university in Central Java. This study is a mixed methods research using a survey approach. The respondents of this research were 20 students with disabilities. The sample was taken by purposive sampling on the basis of their participation in the Study Center of Diffability (PSD). Data collection techniques in this study were conducted through questionnaires (online form) and interviews. The online questionnaire was given to 20 disabled students at one university in Central Java. Meanwhile, the interviews were conducted with one student with visual impairment and one student with hearing impairment. The questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques, while the interview data were used as additional data to support the questionnaire data. The results of the study indicate that there are still students with disabilities who experience difficulties while attending lectures at universities due to the obstacles faced, namely the lack of development of learning approach innovations to help students with disabilities to participate in the lecture process. The research conducted can run well and is expected to be useful as an effort to improve the quality of special education services in Indonesia, especially in the implementation of inclusive education services.

Abstract

High school leavers generally expect to be accepted into higher education. For graduate students with disabilities (SWD), however, entering college remains an exception. This study aims to identify the academic barriers to learning and the strategic preparation needed for college admission. The study was conducted in 12 special education high schools in Central Java, Indonesia. A questionnaire and focus group discussion with the school teachers were employed to collect data on the transition programme activities of the respective schools. The questionnaire was self-reported by the school staff, who consisted of headmasters, teachers, and administrators, while the interview was used to elicit the academic barriers that students with disabilities encounter within their respective special schools. The data were analysed using both descriptive quantitative and qualitative measures. It was found that 1) students with disabilities interfere with both internal and external barriers to learning; 2) policies on the right to education provide meaningful assistance in the university enrolment of students with disabilities; and 3) the modified curriculum and instructional strategies are best employed with a variety of extra curricular activities. The research concludes that academic post school transition makes a major contribution to college admission for those with mild disabilities.

Abstract

Every learner, including those with autism, must be taught about sexual health education. Teachers have a crucial role to play in educating autistic adolescents about sexual health while they are in school. However, many teachers face confusion while teaching sexual education to autistic adolescent students. This research aims to describe the problem of sexual health education in autistic adolescents and the need for learning media to teach sexual health education to autistic adolescents in Special Schools. This study used a qualitative approach. Data was collected through interviews with teachers of autistic students in Special Schools. This research was conducted in 3 (three) special schools in Solo Raya, Indonesia: SLB A, SLB B, and SLB C. The subjects in this study were three teachers of autistic students. The research instrument used interviews with teachers regarding sexual health education issues and the need for instructional media to teach sexual education. The results of the study show that there was a main problem regarding teaching sexual education for autistic students; teachers with autistic adolescents experience confusion in teaching sexual education for autistic adolescents because there are no props or media that are suitable for autistic characteristics. Autism students more easily accept learning using visual-based media. This research's limitation is the sample, which only uses a small sample. This research was only conducted on teachers of autistic students in the Special Schools setting. Based on previous research on sexual education aimed at students with disabilities in general, the novelty of this study is to describe the problems of sexual education in autism students in the adolescent age category.

Abstract

AbstractThe background to this research is the lack of understanding of parents in assisting children with autism in learning to communicate at home. This is due to the lack of references and inappropriate learning assistance methods. Parents need proper guidance to assist children with autism in learning to communicate at home. This research aims to determine the effect of using a digital-based communication learning guide for autistic children on parents' understanding when training communication for autistic children. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE development model. The subjects in this study were 24 parents of autistic children. The data collection technique uses a multiple choice objective test with a total of 15 questions. The data analysis technique uses non-parametric statistics with the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test with the help of SPSS 29. The results of data analysis obtained a scale value of ????ℎ???????????????????? = -4,299 with Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) <.001. The probability value in Zcount is then compared with the significance level α = 0.05. There is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results with P 0.01, which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05 or 5%. Thus Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Based on the results of the research analysis, it was concluded that there was a significant influence on the use of digital-based communication learning assistance guides for autistic children for parents in increasing parents' understanding when training communication for autistic children. Keywords: Digital Applications, Communication, Autistic Children, Parents
