Abstract

The Deep Learning approach launched by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is an approach that honors and is not a new curriculum outlined in the academic manuscript. However, there is still a lack of understanding about the Deep Learning approach, with some people thinking that Deep Learning is a curriculum, and many teachers still don’t understand how to plan and implement this approach in the classroom. This service in the form of socialization is carried out to provide teachers in Indonesia with an understanding of the implementation of Deep Learning in the digital era. The socialization was conducted online with approximately 800 participants, most teachers from various regions across Indonesia. The steps of the method used in this socialization include planning, the delivery of material, sharing during the Q&A session, and reflection. This socialization helps teachers to get to know and understand Deep Learning. It can be implemented in the classroom, leading to positive changes in the learning process, which improves students’ learning outcomes to achieve the eight graduate profiles. The result of this socialization activity was met with enthusiasm from the participants, as shown by the positive feedback during the event, such as interactive Q&A and responses from the participants, allowing them to mutually enrich each other’s learning, most of whom are teachers.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance teachers’ understanding and competence in digital literacy by developing research-based educational games that integrate local wisdom and have a sustainable impact on deep learning. The implementation methods used were training and mentoring activities. The target partners of this program were teachers from SDN Mulyo Haji, Anak Tuha District, Lampung Province. The evaluation technique employed was the CIPP model (Context, Input, Process, and Product). The results of this community service activity show an improvement in teachers’ understanding and competence in digital literacy, as evidenced by an average score of 90.77 (maximum 100 and minimum 60). In addition, teachers were able to design lesson plan products and educational games that are ready for classroom implementation.

Abstract

This conceptual paper investigates how the deep learning approach articulated in the New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL) framework can be theoretically and culturally aligned with Indonesian national graduate profiles, recent Indonesian government formulations of Pembelajaran Mendalam (PM), and the Lampung cultural philosophy of Piil Pesenggiri in the context of English language teaching (ELT). Drawing on document analysis of NPDL texts, Indonesian curriculum and policy documents, the Academic Paper on Deep Learning, scholarly discussions of graduate profiles, and regional literature on Piil Pesenggiri, the study develops a tri-level comparison between global, national, and local frameworks. The analysis shows that NPDL’s six global competencies-character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking-broadly converge with Kemendikdasmen’s holistic, competency-based vision of graduates and with national deep learning discourse, which combines knowledge, skills, character, and citizenship in integrated graduate profiles. At the local level, core elements of Piil Pesenggiri such as juluk adok, nemui nyimah, nengah nyappur, and sakai sambayan provide cultural resources that can support the social, ethical, and collaborative dimensions of deep learning, while also generating tensions around honour, face, hierarchy, and group harmony. The paper argues that, when these convergences and tensions are explicitly recognised, ELT classrooms in Lampung can be designed as spaces for deep learning projects that develop the 6Cs through locally meaningful themes, tasks, and interaction norms. The study concludes by outlining principles for culturally responsive, deep learning-oriented ELT and by suggesting directions for future empirical research on the localisation of global pedagogies and national deep learning reforms in Indonesian schools.

Abstract

Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), or in English it is translated as Emancipated Learning - Independent Campus, is a new regulation intended to promote students' independence. in developing their interests and motivation in learning. As this MBKM Policy is a new educational policy in Indonesia, research on its implementation and its impact is still much needed. This study aims to: 1) explore English students’ perceptions of the implementation of Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka Program at the English Department of Universitas Bandar Lampung, 2) explore English students’ intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to participate in Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka Program at English Department of Universitas Bandar Lampung. The sample of this study is English students at Universitas Bandar Lampung, as many as 25 students participated in the MBKM program. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. The results indicated intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence students to participate in the MBKM program which include: 1) Intrinsic factors (challenging, curiosity, developing self, learning new things, increasing soft and hard skills, being an intelligent student and exploring the ability and knowledge), 2) Extrinsic factors (getting a good job, getting the reward, gaining appreciation/praise from the environment, and get money from the government). Students at Universitas Bandar Lampung believe that MBKM has been successfully implemented and that it has been well worth it. With the MBKM Program, students can receive assistance in the learning process, including the best experience, personal growth, improved English proficiency, optimal learning, and considerable advancement. The MBKM Program's ability to motivate students can have a good effect and aid in their future job growth, self-quality development, and academic success.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of differentiated instruction on the writing proficiency of Grade XI students at SMA Al Azhar 3 Bandar Lampung. Employing a quasi-experimental design, 60 students were divided equally into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received tailored instruction based on students’ interests and learning profiles, while the control group followed conventional methods. Pre- and post-tests were administered, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-tests, and analysis of variance. Results revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s writing scores, with a mean gain of 28.67 points compared to 9.5 in the control group. Additionally, thematic analysis of student interviews, guided by Braun and Clarke’s framework, identified three key themes: positive impact on engagement and comprehension, advantages enhancing learning dynamics, and minimal barriers with significant benefits. Students found the method enjoyable, structured, and effective in supporting their learning. These findings suggest that differentiated instruction not only improves students’ academic outcomes but also fosters motivation and active participation. Theoretically, the study supports learner-centered instructional models, while practically, it offers insights for educators seeking more inclusive and effective strategies. Despite limitations related to sample size and context, the research provides a strong case for broader implementation and further exploration of differentiated instruction in varied educational settings.
