Abstract

This article analyzes the roles of Mary and Martha from the perspective of Luke 10:38-42, which depicts two different attitudes in welcoming the arrival of Jesus: action (Martha) and contemplation (Mary). This research aims to analyze the differences between these two attitudes and how they can be applied in the lives of today's youth. Using a literature review method, this study examines the importance of action and contemplation in the spiritual and daily lives of young people. The results of the study show that these two attitudes complement each other. Both have strong relevance in providing guidance for the younger generation to achieve a balance between dynamic social activity and deep spiritual experience. This offers important insight into how young people can find harmony in a life full of demands and challenges while maintaining their closeness to God.

Abstract

The background to this research is the condition of Manggarai women in NTT who still face structural limitations due to patriarchal culture. The customary practice of belis or dowry often perpetuates subordination, treats women as objects of transaction, and confines their roles to the domestic sphere, thereby limiting their participation in the public sphere. On the other hand, the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4:1-42 offers a radically transformative narrative of liberation from multiple layers of discrimination. This study aims to bridge this gap by analysing how the story of the Samaritan woman's transformation can be adopted as an inspiring theological paradigm for the social transformation of Manggarai women. The method used is descriptive qualitative through literature study. The analysis was conducted in two stages; first, a biblical theological hermeneutical analysis of the text of John 4:1-42 to reveal the meaning of transformation and second, a socio-cultural analysis of the position of Manggarai women. The results of the study show that the transformation of the Samaritan woman was twofold. She underwent a personal transformation, or what is known as restoration of dignity, from social and moral alienation, which directly led to a communal transformation, or the courage to become a prophetic witness in the public sphere. This turning point is symbolised by her action of leaving her water jar, which marks a shift from a domestic focus to a public role. This transformation serves as a powerful counter-narrative to patriarchal structures and practices that diminish the value of women. This study concludes that this biblical narrative has significant contextual potential as a theology of gender liberation. The courage of the Samaritan woman who spoke up can ultimately inspire Manggarai women to move from being objects to empowered subjects, and to take on strategic roles in creating a more just and equitable social order.

Abstract

The story of the Holy Family in Luke 2:41-52 depicts a portrait of household economic management integrated with the values of faith. This narrative depicts Mary not only as a mother who nurtured Jesus, but also as a figure who demonstrated wisdom, self-control, and responsibility in dealing with family dynamics. The background of this research departs from the reality of Christian mothers today who are faced with economic pressures, lifestyle changes, and moral demands in balancing domestic, work, and spiritual roles. The purpose of this research is to identify the principles of household economic management presented by Mary in Luke 2:41-52 and analyze their relevance for Christian mothers today. The method used is a study of biblical and theological literature linked to a socio-economic analysis of contemporary families. In addition, a comparative study of pastoral writings and spiritual reflections related to Mary's role was conducted to obtain a comprehensive picture of the practical values contained in the narrative. The results of the study indicate that Mary's response to the crisis situation, especially the loss of Jesus in the Temple, demonstrates three main principles: emotional management rooted in faith, respectful communication within the family, and shared responsibility as the basis for decision-making. These findings identify that household financial management encompasses not only material aspects but also spiritual and relational dimensions that influence family well-being. This research confirms that the figure of Mary in this passage can serve as an inspiring paradigm for Christian mothers in building a household that balances economic needs and faith values, so that financial and parenting decisions are made wisely, patiently, and directed toward the family's spiritual growth.

Abstract

AbstractA narrow understanding of freedom—namely, freedom from all laws and norms—leads humans into disorientation. This can be observed in Homo Digitalis, who regard themselves as free individuals. In this article, the author seeks to challenge this view by examining the concept of freedom in Homo Digitalis and in the youngest son in Luke 15:11–32, analyzed through Augustine’s perspective. This article employs a literature-based method. The results indicate that both Homo Digitalis and the youngest son are not truly free, as freedom is understood as a state of volition that culminates in virtue. Consequently, it can be argued that Homo Digitalis represents the character of the youngest son in the parable of the prodigal son.

Abstract

The rise of interreligious prejudice in Indonesia is an alarming phenomenon, evident in the intensification of social polarization, the spread of identity-based conflicts, and the decline of constructive communication among religious communities. This situation often hinders efforts to build truthful narratives and substantive dialogue, as they are obstructed by deeply rooted stereotypes and prejudices. This study analyzes the urgency of an epistemological transformation from prejudice toward authentic dialogue as a concrete embodiment of a dynamic and transformative Christian faith, with a particular focus on the narrative of John 1:35–51. By employing a literature-based methodology and descriptive analysis, this research demonstrates how encounters with Christ provide a strong epistemological and spiritual foundation for overcoming prejudice while fostering meaningful interreligious dialogue. Dialogue in this perspective is not understood as doctrinal relativism but as a praxis grounded in truth, agape love, and mutual recognition. This study specifically examines the application of the principle “come and see” as a methodology for cultivating tolerance in response to the complexities of today’s socio-cultural challenges. By integrating theological reflection with the pluralistic reality of Indonesia, this article offers a new perspective on the contribution of Christians in a plural society, particularly their role as facilitators of dialogue amid a social climate saturated with prejudice. The findings of this research are expected to make a significant contribution to the development of more effective, constructive, and transformative models of interreligious dialogue.

Abstract

The global ecological crisis calls for deeper interreligious reflection on humanity’s relationship with creation. The Catholic Church, through Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, and Islam, through its doctrine of amanah (trusteeship) toward nature, both affirm humanity’s moral responsibility as stewards of creation. Yet, in social and religious practices, these ecological values are often overlooked due to dominant anthropocentric and exploitative paradigms. This study proposes an eco-theological dialogue framework that positions environmental theology as an ethical meeting ground between Catholic and Islamic traditions. Using a qualitative comparative textual analysis of Laudato Si’ and Islamic classical and contemporary sources on amanah, the study finds a profound convergence: the Earth is a divine trust that must be cared for with love, justice, and spiritual responsibility. Both traditions reject environmental exploitation and advocate for faith-based ecological conversion. This dialogue thus provides an ethical foundation for interreligious collaboration toward integral ecology and peace with creation. Abstract

This community service activity took the form of training for Bible facilitators and a deepening of Lectio Divina for administrators of the Basic Faith Group (KUB) and the parish congregation at Sta. Maria Bunda Orang Miskin Noelmina Parish. This activity was motivated by the congregation's need for more focused faith guidance, particularly in understanding and living out the Bible contextually. The request for this training was submitted by the Parish Priest in response to the current state of catechesis at the community level, which still faces limitations in Bible deepening methods. The activity was carried out over two days through lectures, interactive discussions, and small group practice. The material provided included an understanding of the role and responsibilities of Bible facilitators and an in-depth understanding of the Lectio Divina method, which consists of the stages of lectio, meditation, oratio, contemplatio, and action. Participants not only received theoretical material but also practiced directly in groups, guided by a team of trainers, using predetermined Bible texts. The results of the activity demonstrated an increase in participants' understanding of the Lectio Divina method and their ability to practice it in groups through a more focused and reflective faith-sharing process. Participants also demonstrated a readiness to apply the method in catechetical activities at the Community Service Center (KUB) and in their respective communities. Their enthusiasm and active participation throughout the activity demonstrated that this method is relevant and easily applicable in the lives of the congregation. Thus, this activity encourages the development of a more participatory, contextual, and Scripture-based catechesis. The sustainability of this program is expected to further strengthen the faith of the congregation at the grassroots level.

Abstract

This study examines Poco Leok women's loyalty to customary land as a form of cultural and ecological commitment in response to geothermal projects perceived as threatening the sustainability of local communities' lives. This study analyzes relevant literature that discusses the struggles of indigenous women in social, ecological, and participatory contexts. The results show that rejecting geothermal projects is not merely a political act but an expression of spiritual and ecological responsibility passed down from generation to generation. This study examines the Poco Leok women's faithfulness through theological reflection on Luke 23:27-31, which parallels the prophetic solidarity of the women of Jerusalem, who embody moral courage in the face of injustice. This research emphasizes the need for development based on participation, local wisdom, and ecological justice.
