Abstract

Community activities are not far from garbage, even in every activity there is always trash. If the waste we produce is not managed properly it will have an impact on the environment and this will also have an impact on us. To prevent and overcome this, Sebelas Maret University KKN students carry out a community service program in the form of socialization activities and training in managing plastic waste into products that have economic value in the form of a ruler. This community training activity uses lecture, demonstration, and practice methods. The purpose of this activity is so that residents of the Kerten sub-district can continue to develop creativity and innovation in processing household waste, especially plastic. The results obtained from this activity are enthusiasm from the training participants so that they can foster their creativity and innovation in plastic waste management, open to knowledge about the dangers of plastic waste to life and increase skills in plastic waste management.

Abstract

STEM and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) learning models have been applied to support 21st century learning. However, no empirical evidence has been found to reveal the combined effectiveness of the two models. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of STEM, Project-Based Learning (PjBL), and lecture learning models in improving critical thinking skills. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 8 Ternate City, North Maluku Province, involving 64 students divided into three classes studying Indonesian natural resource management. A concurrent embedded strategy combining quantitative and qualitative data collection was used. Initial test data indicated reliability at 0.76, with normality tests for the STEM model at 0.08, the PjBL model at 0.13, and lecture learning at 0.14, all showing normally distributed data. The homogeneity test showed homogeneous data with a value of 1.097. The balance test using one-way ANOVA indicated balanced initial abilities (Fhitung 2.52 Ftabel 3.14). Results demonstrated that by applying the STEM and PjBL learning models, students achieved proficiency in critical thinking skills. Final test data, including normality tests, one-way unequal ANOVA, and post-ANOVA tests, showed significant improvement in critical thinking skills. The STEM model and PjBL model were both effective with no significant differences between them, while both differed significantly from the lecture learning model. The results suggest that both STEM and PjBL models are effective in enhancing critical thinking skills. To address the shortcomings of traditional lecture methods, educators should consider integrating STEM and PjBL approaches into their teaching practices.

Abstract

The community in Jambeyan Village faces challenges in improving spatial literacy among elementary school students, which affects their ability to analyze spatial patterns and geographic phenomena. To address this issue, a community engagement program was implemented to introduce map based learning US a means to enhance spatial thinking skills. The program was conducted from March 17 to 19, 2025, at Jambeyan 1 Public Elementary School, Jambeyan 2 Public Elementary School, and Elementary School Country Jambeyan 3, involving 104 students. The Implementation methods included lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities using land use maps of Jambeyan Village. The results showed a significant improvement in students' understanding of spatial relationships, demonstrated by their ability to interpret land use maps and describe spatial patterns in their surroundings. However, challenges such US limited interactive learning media and inadequate internet access were encountered. Despite these obstacles, the initiative successfully increased students' interest in spatial learning and highlighted the effectiveness of visual learning tools in geography education. Future programs should focus on integrating digital mapping technologies to further enhance learning outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose – This study examines the execution of the geography curriculum and pedagogical strategies through a bibliometric analysis technique. By utilizing data from the Scopus database, the research identifies publication trends, thematic clusters, and key factors influencing the development of geography education.Methodology – This research uses a bibliometric analysis approach using data from the Scopus database. The analysis employed VOSviewer to visualize co-occurrence networks and bibliographic coupling. Thematic clusters were identified to map research directions, authorship collaboration, and methodological developments in geography education.Findings – The findings identify five primary study clusters: (1) curriculum implementation in geography education, (2) methodologies for geography learning, (3) academic performance and evaluation, (4) citizenship-oriented learning development, and (5) international curriculum execution. Innovative methods such as project-based learning and integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are among the most frequently discussed strategies. The study also highlights challenges such as gaps between curriculum planning and implementation, limited infrastructure, and the need for teacher training.Contribution – Using a bibliometric approach, this study provides a comprehensive overview of trends and directions in implementing geography learning curriculum and methods. The findings provide a basis for designing more effective educational policies and valuable insights for future research development.

Abstract

This research was initiated by the lack of spatial citizenship in geography learning from secondary to tertiary levels, even though this is crucial for becoming citizens with a spatial perspective. This study aims to develop an effective geography learning model to improve students' spatial citizenship. This study used the design-based research method, which has four stages: analysis of practical problems, design development, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The research subjects were 250 students of Geography Education at Sebelas Maret University for needs analysis and 27 for product effectiveness testing. Data collection techniques were classroom observation, in-depth interviews, tests, expert judgment, and focus group discussions, testing the effectiveness using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The data analysis technique at the practical problem analysis stage was a constant comparative method. The geographical inquiry model is efficacious in improving students' spatial citizenship skills. Calculation of the paired sample t-test shows the value of Sig. (2-tailed) 0.05, so there are differences in learning outcomes using the geographical inquiry model in improving spatial citizenship skills. This geographic inquiry model effectively provides essential steps in conducting geographic inquiries to solve problems using geospatial data sources. This study concludes that if geographical inquiry is applied appropriately and comprehensively in geography education at the university level, it will provide students with the skills to become good citizens from a spatial perspective. For further research, it is hoped that applying the geographical inquiry model with a deep learning approach to geography learning can be studied

Abstract

This research aims to describe the process and results of developing a STEM learning model using the PjBL model to improve students' critical thinking abilities. This type of research is a combination method of the Concurrent Triangulation model which consists of step one, qualitative research using the learning development model proposed by Kemp 1994, while step two is quantitative research using quasi experimental design research. The implementation of the development of this model was carried out at SMA Negeri 8 Ternate City, North Maluku Province involving 64 students in class students in experimental class 2 PjBL Model. Critical thinking ability data was taken using a test instrument with a reliability of 0.76. Data analysis was carried out using the one way unequal Anova test. The results of the research show that there is no significant difference in critical thinking skills between the STEM learning model and the PjBL model on critical thinking skills on the subject of Indonesian natural resource management in the large category.
