Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to describe forms of literacy culture and constraints faced by students in carrying out activities in literacy culture. The research subjects were students of Facultyof Languages and Arts, Yogyakarta State University. The data were collected throughobservations, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Theye were analyzed bythe qualitative descriptive technique. The results of the study are as follows. First, thestudents’ literacy culture is manifested in their reading and writing activities. Readingactivities are done because there are assignments related to the courses (60%) and becausethey like reading (11%). Writing activities done because they like them are in a range of17%-40% and those done because there are demands from the courses are 25-42%. Studentswho link reading and writing activities reach 53%. Second, constraints in literacy culturecome from the students and the environment. The former are in general due to laziness,lack of motivation, not being focused, fatigue and boredom, no writing ideas, difficulty incomposing words and sentences, and confusion, while the latter include, among others,lack of reference in the library and references in foreign languages.Keywords: literacy culture, reading and writing activities

Abstract

The study was aimed at redefining the learning of language and literature from the perspective of media use in the lesson planning and implementation and students’ responses towards language and literature learning. The subjects of the study were teachers and students of state junior high schools in a regency in Yogyakarta Province. The subjects were taken in three stages, first, with the cluster technique: the eastern, western, central, and northern zones, and second, with the school strata technique: as excellent, moderate, and low. The choice of strata technique was determined based on the results of the 2017 National Exam score ranking. Third, the selection of schools and classes was made randomly. Primary data were obtained from observation, interview, and document analysis; secondary data were obtained from a questionnaire. Results can be described as follows. First, media use designed in the lesson plan included conventional, new, and audio-visual media. Second, media use in the carrying out of the lesson was realized by the teachers in the forms of conventional visual and audio-visual media. Third, students gave fair responses to the use of instructional media in language and literature learning. In the low-coded schools, the use of media designed in the lesson plans was more varied than that of the moderate- and excellent-coded schools; the most preferred new visual media were PowerPoint. In moderate- and low-coded schools, instructional media were shown to have positive impacts on student activity in learning; namely, students were more active because learning was more fun. Contradictorily, instructional media did not have positive impacts in excellent-coded schools on student activity in learning; namely, students were less active because learning was considered unpleasant. As seen from the perspective of the transformational era, no teacher had used interactive digital media.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan wujud literasi budaya pada mahasiswa Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Adapun yang menjadi objek penelitian adalah wujud literasi budaya pada mahasiswa Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan trianggulasi dalam memvalidasi datanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa literasi budaya mahasiswa meliputi tiga hal. Pertama, nilai-nilai yang tercermin dalam perilaku mahasiswa seperti ketepatan waktu, kerendahan hati dan kesederhanaan, hormat sesama dan kasih sayang, kejujuran, kedisiplinan, produktivitas kerja, serta toleransi. Kedua, literasi tindakan mahasiswa tercermin dalam aktivitas membaca dan menulis, perlombaan, dan pentas seni atau drama. Ketiga, bentuk artefak kegiatan mahasiswa terdiri atas karya-karya mahasiswa di perpustakaan, laboratorium atau ruang karya (lukisan, patung, batik, foto dll), dan sertifikat atau piagam penghargaan yang diperoleh mahasiswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep peserta didik pada materi gaya dan gerak menggunakan model course review horay pada kelas IV SDN Sonorejo, Jakenan, Pati.penelitian tindakan kelas ini menggunakan model Kemmis dan Mc Taggart yang terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan dan pengamatan, serta refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 13 peserta dididk kelas IV SDN Sonorejo. Penelitian ini berlangsung sebanyak dua siklus, setiap siklus terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes uraian dan observasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Kriteria keberhasilan kemampuan pemahaman konsep materi gaya dan gerak adalah rerata kelas memperoleh skor ≥ 70. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata skor kemampuan pemahaman konsep materi gaya dan gerak selalu meningkat saat menggunakan model course review horay. Rata-rata kemampuan pemahaman konsep materi gaya dan gerak pada peserta didik kelas IV SDN Sonorejo dari pra siklus 59,75, siklus I 72,22 dan siklus II 82,84. Simpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan menggunakan model course review horay dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep materi gaya dan gerak peserta didik kelas IV SDN Sonorejo, Jakenan, Pati.

Abstract

The Indonesian language teachingand learning is essentially focused on theability to use the four major language skills (writing, reading, speaking andlistening) in real life.An attempt to improve the skills can be made by changing theclassical teaching model into a modernand creative one. Such a change does notmean eliminating the existing teachingand learning models, but trying to developand combine them with a modern one. Therefore, an e-Iearning-based basedteachingand learning method needs to be implemented in the Indonesian languageteachingand learning process.. The use of e-Iearning in this process will·overcomesome problems related to time, distance,materials,. and costs which have been theproblems for teachers and· students. The useof this method .is expected to givecomplete·and various information and materials through internet downloading.Besides, other benefits, such as flexible. timeand space during the process, willresult in students' independence and creativity.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan model buku ajar membaca berdasarkan pendekatan proses bagi siswa SMP. Ada tiga tahap dalam penelitian ini, yaitu (1) pendefinisian; (2) perencanaan dan pengembangan; dan (3) penyebarluasan. Data penelitian dianalisis dengan teknik analisis domain dengan prinsip kritis dan reflektif. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model buku ajar membaca telah dikembangkan berdasarkan pendekatan proses. Buku tersebut terdiri atas tiga bagian, yaitu (1) pendahuluan, (2) bagian isi, dan (3) bagian tambahan. Setiap unit terdiri atas judul unit pembelajaran, kompetensi dasar, pramembaca, membaca, merespon, menggali teks, dan memperluas pemahaman.Kata Kunci: buku ajar membaca, pendekatan prosesDEVELOPING A PROCESS-APPROACH-BASED READING TEXTBOOK MODEL FOR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTSAbstract: This development research was aimed to produce a process-approach-based reading textbook model for Junior High School students. There were three stages in this research, i.e. (1) definition; (2) design and development; and (3) dissemination. The data were analyzed using the domain analysis technique with critical and reflective principles. The findings showed that the reading textbook model had been developed based on the process approach. This text book consisted of three parts, i.e. (1) introduction, (2) core materials, and (3) additional part. Each unit consisted of the title, competence, pre-reading, whilst-reading, responding, exploring the text, and extending comprehension.Keywords: reading text book, process approach

Abstract

Abstract Gender is a concept used to identify the differences between men and women. It has a strong relationship with literary work, that stories are employed by authors to communicate their messages and ideas from women. The results of the creativity are strongly influenced by the socio cultural condition of the authors. Female authors try to actively cooperate in responding the development of gender issues and using the chances to express their creative ideas into their literary works. Authors mean to change the gender issues perception through their literature works to make female equal to men in socio construction community. Female literary works are used as media in motivating women to do something to express their ideas so that women figures become a part of this real world who has the right to consider and admired. Recently, female literary works are almost equal to men’s in Indonesian literary world as a figure to show that women are not weak as what our community thought in patriarchy culture. Studies in female literary works such as Ayu Utami, Dewi Dee, and Djenar Maesa Ayu have given new colors in literary world. The colors are very useful agents of a change for women specially to life equal in the socio constructions community in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ essay writing skills at the stages of contentdevelopment, organization, and essay development using the catalisting strategy.This was an action research study involving the students of Class A of JPBSI FBSUNY enrolled in 2009 attending the Factual Writing course. The data were collected through observations, interviews, and documents. The instruments included a field note guide, an interview guide, a scoring rubric, and a questionnaire. The resultsshowed that there was an improvement of the students’ skills in developing contents, organizing problems, and developing the essay. In the problem organization, the students were capable of finding new problems and organizing them in a logicalessay outline. In the essay development, they managed to develop the essay in a logical sequence of problems and effective sentences with few errors in spelling and punctuation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the readiness of teachers at junior high schools (JHSs) in theimplementation of Curriculum 2013. The readiness comprises their understanding of thecurriculum and abilities to prepare learning kits, design the syllabus, and develop learningmaterials. This was a descriptive study employing the survey approach. The researchsubjects were Indonesian language teachers at JHSs in Kulonprogo Regency. The datawere collected through a questionnaire and were descriptively analyzed using categoriesbased on each characteristic. The results show that Indonesian language teachers at JHSsare ready to implement Curriculum 2013. This is indicated by: (1) their understanding ofthe curriculum contents (68.91%), (2) their readiness in lesson planning (68.69%), (3) theirreadiness in learning implementation (72.67%), and (4) their understanding of evaluationand learning mastery (67.83%). The improvement of the readiness in the implementationof Curriculum 2013 is made through intensifying socialization, enriching supplementarymaterials, and attending training on lesson plan designs.

Abstract

Literacy competence becomes a fundamental need for students to support their learning process at school. Likewise, the contribution of functional literacy is very important in living a social life and communicating in the current 4.0 era effectively. This article aimed to describe the form of functional literacy and the obstacles in the implementation of functional literacy program in junior high schools in Yogyakarta. This article used library research and direct observation of the implementation of functional literacy in schools as the research method. The results of the study showed that, first, functional literacy program implemented in schools was still merely accustomed to reading and writing. Schools, in general, have made literacy programs such as reading posts, library visits, work exhibitions, meaningful writing, writing as a response, writing exhibitions, and creative and academic writing. However, the implementation of functional literacy towards the development, learning, and functional needs of students has not been planned and implemented optimally. Second, the constraints on the implementation of functional literacy came from the students and the schools. In addition to the students' lack of motivation, feeling unfocused, tired, and bored also hindered the effectivity of literacy program implementation. The constraints stemming from schools included the lack of budget for literacy programs, the lack of time allocation and new reference sources, and no collaboration between school members in the implementation of literacy programs. The literacy programs were implemented using top-down approach, and have not yet referred to the basic functional needs of students.
