Abstract

The most common dental and oral disease in the community, especially in school-age children, is dental caries. One of the causes of dental caries is the type and frequency of cardiogenic snacks. This study aims to determine the relationship between the type and frequency of snacks on the experience of dental caries in school-age children at SDN Cisalak III, Sumedang Regency. This type of research is quantitative analytic with cross-sectional. Samples were taken by purposive sampling method with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Measurement of the type and frequency of snacks was carried out using a questionnaire filled out by students aged 12 years. The experience of dental caries was measured directly by the DMF-t index, design with fisher exact hypothesis test. The results of this study indicate that the type of snacks consumed the most is the type of cardiogenic snacks as much as 64.1% with a high frequency of cardiogenic snacks at 74.4%. From the results of direct examination, it was found that the DMF-T index of respondents had very high criteria, namely 51.3%. After the Fisher exact test, there was a significant relationship between the type of snacks and the experience of dental caries P(0.02) < (0.05) and there was a significant relationship between the frequency of snacks and the experience of dental caries in school-age children P(0.04) < (0.05).

The research sample was taken randomly using simple random sampling technique. After being analyzed by the cross tabulation method, the results of this study showed that most of the respondents who had a poor habit of brushing on each indicator, also had poor dental hygiene levels. In the frequency indicator, most of the respondents who brush their teeth only once a day (bad criteria) have poor dental hygiene levels. In the time indicator, most of the respondents who brush their teeth only after breakfast or before going to bed (bad criteria) have poor dental hygiene levels. And on the indicator of how to brush their teeth, most of the respondents who brush their teeth without a combination movement (bad criteria) have a poor level of dental hygiene.

Abstract

The School Dental Health Program (UKGS) at SDN 212 Harapan in Bandung aims to maintain students' dental health through promotive, curative, and preventive activities but was halted in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study evaluates the program's implementation at SDN Harapan 212 using a descriptive, qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data were analyzed through transcription, reduction, presentation, and verification. Findings reveal deficiencies in input, such as a lack of human resources (dentists and little dentist) and suboptimal facilities (non-functioning dental units). The organizational structure of UKS/UKGS is not displayed, and there is no parental financial support. In the process, the health center's UKGS program has been halted since 2019, and curative programs are not implemented. Policies like health center SOPs and cooperation MOUs are outdated. However, the program has increased students' understanding of dental care and their independence in maintaining dental hygiene. The study concludes that the UKGS program's implementation is inadequate in terms of input and process. It provides valuable insights for improving the UKGS program in other schools and contributes to the literature on school dental health programs.

Abstract

Background: Efforts to prevent and break the chain of transmission of infectious diseases should be carried out simultaneously. IPC principles and procedures must be adhered to when doing so. One of the principles is hand hygiene. All health workers must understand the five steps for proper hand hygiene, as this will prevent contamination through body fluids, blood, secretions, excretions and non-intact skin. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine whether there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and compliance of health workers at Sukajadi Community Health Center, Bandung Regency with hand hygiene practices. Method: This is a type of analytical research that uses a cross-sectional approach. A total of 26 medical personnel working at the Sukajadi Community Health Center used total sampling techniques. To collect data, questionnaires and observation sheets were used. The data used for analysis was tested using the Kendall Tau test. Results: The results of the study showed that most of the health workers at the Sukajadi Community Health Center had good knowledge about implementing hand hygiene (84.6%), but a small portion did not do it (15.4%). Conclusion: The results of statistical tests on research data show that there is a significant relationship between the level of five moment hand hygiene knowledge of health workers and compliance with its implementation at the Sukajadi Health Center, Bandung Regency.

Abstract

The prevalence of dental caries in Indonesia is estimated to be 80%. In children aged between six and 11 years, dental caries is a chronic condition that is prevalent and relatively high. Nevertheless, some measures can be taken, such as the application of topical fluoride. Nevertheless, a considerable number of parents remain unaware of the topical application of fluoride. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of an educational animation on parental knowledge about topical fluoride applications. The study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group, pretest-post-test design. The population of this study consisted of all parents (mothers and guardians) of students at DTA Al-Fath, totalling 18 individuals. The sampling method employed was total sampling. The data were analysed using the paired sample t-test. The results of the paired sample t-test indicate that the average level of parental knowledge regarding topical fluoride applications prior to the implementation of the educational intervention was 45.83. Following the provision of instruction via the medium of animation, the level of parental awareness regarding topical applications of fluoride increased, with an average score of 86.67. The findings of this study indicate a significant impact on the level of parental awareness regarding topical fluoride applications in DTA Al-Fath, both before and after the implementation of an educational intervention utilising animated media. The statistical significance of this impact is evidenced by a p-value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05
