Abstract

Creative thinking skills are among the essential competencies students must possess to face global challenges in the 21st century. This study aims to analyze the profile of students’ scientific creativity in terms of gender differences and cognitive level. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, involving 36 junior high school students. The instruments used included a scientific creativity test based on the Hu & Adey model and documentation of students’ science grades to determine their cognitive levels. Data analysis consisted of both descriptive and inferential approaches. Descriptive analysis was used to examine the characteristics of the data, including maximum score, minimum score, and average student score. Based on the scientific creativity scores, students were categorized into three groups: creative, moderately creative, and less creative. Inferential analysis involved an independent sample t-test to examine gender differences in scientific creativity and a Pearson correlation test to investigate the relationship between scientific creativity and cognitive level. The results showed that students' scientific creativity fell into the moderately creative category, with female students achieving higher average scores than male students, particularly in the dimensions of fluency and originality. The t-test revealed a significant difference in scientific creativity between male and female students. Students with higher cognitive levels tended to have better scientific creativity scores, although the Pearson correlation test showed that the relationship between cognitive level and scientific creativity was not statistically significant. In conclusion, female students demonstrated higher levels of scientific creativity than their male counterparts, and cognitive level did not show a significant correlation with students’ scientific creativity.

Abstract

This study examines the trend of interactive science learning media integrated with SDGs to improve students' science literacy. Improving science literacy is considered important considering the complexity of global challenges that require scientific understanding in sustainable decision-making. This study aims to provide a bibliometric review of publications related to interactive science learning media integrated with SDGs to improve students' science literacy during the period 2015-2024. Data were collected from Google Scholar using analysis tools such as Publish or Perish and Dimension.ai, resulting in 1,000 documents identified and selected using the PRISMA guidelines. The analysis was carried out using bibliometric and content analysis methods, supported by VOSviewer software to visualize keyword trends and emerging research patterns. The results show a significant increase in the trend of publications of interactive science media integrated with SDGs, with a peak in 2023. The dominance of keywords such as "citizen science," "sustainability," and "media literacy" indicates the important role of science literacy in preparing students to face global issues through critical thinking skills, collaboration, and digital literacy. The results of this study indicate that interactive learning media based on SDGs has become the main focus in the development of science education that is relevant and contextual to the needs of the 21st century. Although there are challenges in its implementation, the integration of SDGs in science education makes a significant contribution in creating a generation that is more aware of sustainability and is globally responsible.

Abstract

This study examines respondent and university type responses to science process skills instruments integrated with automated feedback on science practicum performance assessments at 2 state college and 2 private college in West Nusa Tenggara Province. A Kruskal-Wallis test was performed utilizing case study and cluster random sampling. Data was collected using online survey, interviews, and direct observations. Three hundred seventy-six university students and teachers from four universities were studied. Since there was no standard instrument, science process skills performance was not assessed. The assessment results show no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) between state and private college in measuring science process skills integrated with real-time feedback on science practicum. This suggests that neither university has conducted such an assessment. No significant difference in responses between university students and lecturers regarding the measurement of science process skills on performance assessments integrated with real-time feedback in science practicum (p > 0.05), implying that university students and lecturers have the same experience. This study advises developing science process skills measurement on performance assessment for real-time science practicum feedback.

Abstract

Communication skills and collaboration skills are two of the 21st century soft skills that are very important to be mastered by prospective biology teacher students. Therefore, it is necessary to design learning that is oriented towards empowering these skills. This study aims to develop a learning design based on information processing theory, and to test its effectiveness on the communication skills and collaboration skills of prospective biology teacher students at the FKIP, Mataram University. This study is a development research whose procedure uses the ADDIE development research model. The product produced in this study is a learning design based on information processing theory consisting of RPS, RTM and Student Learning Journals. The results of the validation by biology learning experts stated that the learning design was declared valid. The results of the learning design effectiveness test showed that the application of learning design in the biology learning strategy course was effective for communication skills, collaboration skills, and students' understanding of concepts. Based on the validation results, and the effectiveness test of the application of learning design, it can be stated that learning design based on information processing theory can be used as one of the innovative learning designs that is oriented towards strengthening soft skills, especially for students' communication skills and collaboration skills

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze research trends in STEAM research in science education from 2016 to 2025 by combining bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review (SLR). Bibliometric data were retrieved from the Dimensions database using the keyword STEAM Research in Science Education. The initial search in the full data field yielded 281,366 documents; however, after restricting the search to the title and abstract fields, 1,412 publications were obtained and analyzed using VOSviewer. In addition, an SLR was conducted on 30 articles published in reputable Scopus-indexed journals. The findings reveal a significant increase in STEAM-related publications in science education, particularly after 2022, when the annual number of publications rose sharply from 127 in 2022 to 402 in 2025. This trend indicates growing academic interest in integrative, creative, and contextual learning approaches. Keyword analysis shows the dominance of general terms such as student, education, learning, system, and science, while the network visualization demonstrates strong linkages between pedagogical and applied clusters. However, the density and overlay visualizations indicate that the integration of STEAM with culture, indigenous knowledge, and ethnoscience remains peripheral. The SLR findings further show that STEAM research in science education has mainly focused on twenty-first-century skills, scientific literacy, creativity, and teacher implementation support, but remain fragmented across contexts, educational levels, and outcome variables. Therefore, this study confirms that although STEAM has developed rapidly in science education, further research is still needed to systematically integrate publication trends, thematic structures, methodological approaches, and cultural or local dimensions to strengthen future directions of STEAM research.
