Abstract

Based on data released by UNICEF in 2020, it was found that 1 in 5 girls in Indonesia do not know about hygiene management during menstruation. Taboos and stigma limit female students' activities during menstruation. The absence of female students at school makes them miss out on their lessons. Menstrual Hygiene Management (MKM) is the management of hygiene and health for women who menstruate. The Ministry of Health strives for menstrual hygiene by implementing three School Health Efforts (Trias UKS), namely health education, health services and fostering a healthy school environment. The aim of this activity is to provide education to teenagers regarding personal hygiene practices during menstruation. The activity was carried out at the Anggun Nan Tongga Youth Posyandu which is included in the work area of the Pauh Community Health Center, Kampung Jawa I, Kota Pariaman and was held on August 19 2021 at the Village Head Office. Java I. The number of participants who attended were 20 teenagers at elementary, middle and high school levels who were active in Youth Posyandu activities. Education is delivered using lecture and discussion methods, and is equipped with supporting media in the form of slides and leaflets. The evaluation used is a pretest and post-test to determine whether there is an increase in teenagers' knowledge. After being given education, it was found that 65% of teenagers already had a high level of knowledge regarding hygiene management during menstruation. Teenagers already have good knowledge about how to manage hygiene during menstruation and also understand how to dispose of used sanitary napkins.

Abstract

According to WHO, 10-15% of the 100 million women in the world are affected by reproductive tract infections, due to their lack of knowledge about the health of the reproductive organs. Lack of knowledge about personal hygiene during menstruation not only increases the risk of reproductive tract infections (ISR) but can cause urinary tract infections (UTI), pelvic inflammatory disease (PRP), and the worst possibility can cause uterine cancer which is the number one cause of death in women. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to provide correct knowledge to women regarding personal hygiene. What's more, women with certain activities or jobs are often constrained in implementing this hygiene behavior. One of them is a traditional market trader. The market's dirty and damp conditions are sure to be a hotbed of various germs. The body becomes dirty and the vital organs also become sweaty, moist, and itchy. If a female trader is in her menstrual period, it will certainly add to the feeling of discomfort during her activities. This condition is exacerbated if hygiene facilities such as public toilets with clean water provided by market managers are inadequate. The purpose of this activity is to provide education to women of childbearing age as market traders, regarding the practice of personal hygiene during menstruation. The method used lectures and using health brochure media. Pre-test and post-test were carried out to determine whether there was a change in the knowledge of the target group. From this activity, it can be seen that there was an increase in knowledge to 58%.

Abstract

The waste problem is a challenge for cities, especially in developing countries. Waste management is closely related to population, community values and behavior, and existing organizations and systems. Organic waste refers to waste materials that can decompose naturally and be converted into compost. It includes various types of waste, such as food scraps, dry leaves, and vegetables. Based on the literature obtained, it was reported that the City of Padang produces 600 tons of waste daily and ends up in the Final Disposal Site (TPA) without any follow-up or effective management. A very efficient approach to managing organic waste involves transforming the waste into Eco-enzymes, a remarkable discovery made by Dr. Rasukon Poompanvong from Thailand over three decades ago. This eco-enzyme training was conducted on 16 September 2023 at the Cendana residence in Koto Kaciak, Padang City, West Sumatra-Indonesia. The results of the activities presented by the resource person to the community provided knowledge to the community regarding eco-enzymes. Eco-enzyme training for the community has been carried out. It was concluded that eco-enzyme can be used to reduce waste, especially organic waste, which has many benefits.

Abstract

Indonesia is a disaster-prone region because it is located in the Ring of Fire and at the confluence of four tectonic plate faults: the Eurasian, Indo-Australian, Philippine Sea, and Pacific plates. A disaster is an event that cannot be predicted in terms of its arrival and impact but can be reduced in terms of risk. Community preparedness related to disasters needs to be improved because of the risk of disasters that can threaten the lives and livelihoods of people affected by disasters. Padang City is one of the coastal areas in West Sumatra Province with the risk of disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and landslides because one of the factors is its geographical condition, which is located in a potential natural disaster area. Therefore, preparedness training is needed to help people who live in disaster-prone areas cope with and reduce disaster risks. This disaster preparedness and mitigation training was held on 8 November 2023 at the Batang Arau Village Office, Padang Selatan District, Padang City. The conclusion obtained after the implementation of this activity is the community's insight into the importance of being prepared and mitigating disasters that have the potential to occur in residential areas.

Abstract

Nagari Pandai Sikek West Sumatra experienced a flash flood disaster that caused infrastructure damage, disruption of basic services, and decreased the quality of life of the community, especially vulnerable groups. This activity aims to improve the quality of life and health of post-disaster communities through an integrated approach in the fields of health and disaster management. The quality of life of the community is measured through a composite approach that includes knowledge improvement (pre- and post-tests), behavioral changes and participation in activities, simple health conditions (blood pressure and physical activity), waste bank and maggot-based environmental management, and community social involvement. These indicators show improvements in physical, cognitive, social, and environmental aspects after the community service activities. Activity methods include socialization, simulation, and education with a pre-test and post-test approach to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. Activities were carried out in the form of disaster mitigation counseling for elementary school students, maggot-based waste management training, healthy lifestyle counseling for the elderly through the GERMAS program, and nutrition education for parents related to stunting prevention. The results of the activity showed an increase in public understanding of disaster mitigation, with an average pre-test score of 58.4 increasing to 82.7 in the post-test. The community demonstrated a better understanding of the importance of waste management to prevent environmental pollution, awareness of early detection of hypertension, and the fulfillment of balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. Active participation in simulations, question and answer sessions, and discussions were indicators of the success of the activity. It can be concluded that this community service program succeeded in increasing the understanding and awareness of the Pandai Sikek community regarding health and disaster preparedness. The sustainability of this program needs to be supported through collaboration with local governments, educational institutions, and local communities to expand its positive impact.

Abstract

Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) is part of the government's program for women's reproductive health. Adolescents' understanding of MHM in developing countries is still low. The study aimed to explore the actions, knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of female students about facilities and infrastructure, as well as the role of parents in managing menstrual solid waste. The method used is a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was junior high school students in Padang Panjang City and Padang Pariaman Regency, with a sample of 234 people. Data were analyzed univariately, bivariately, and multivariately using SPSS. Almost half of respondents took poor action in managing menstrual solid waste (44.9%), had low knowledge (44.4%), had a negative attitude (44.4%), had a poor perception of supporting facilities and facilities (48.3%), and stated that there was no role of parents/families in managing menstrual solid waste (43.2%). There was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge, respondents' attitudes, and the role of parents with menstrual solid waste management measures. However, there is no relationship between the perception of the availability of facilities and infrastructure and action. The level of knowledge and attitude has the most significant influence in determining the actions taken by respondents. The government is expected to provide socialization to the public on how to dispose of menstrual solid waste and provide adequate sanitation facilities and infrastructure. Parents also provide guidance early on

Abstract

Nagari Magek, located in Kamang Magek District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, faces serious problems related to clean water quality due to the high iron, manganese, and sulfur content. Although a solar-powered borehole system has been built to meet the water needs of 300 households, the water produced is still unfit for consumption. It impacts the decline of fish breeding businesses, one of the essential local traditions in Nagari Magek. To overcome this problem, community service activities aim to design effective clean water treatment technology and assist in fish nurseries and farming. The design process of the multi-level water filter has been carried out as a solution to improve water quality by introducing aeration-sedimentation-filtration technology and the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) system. In addition, the fish nursery business in Nagari Magek is supported by modern pond management training and the empowerment of the younger generation for sustainable management.
