Abstract

This paper discusses the ongoing dispute between the Berhala  island  1983 to 2013 Through the history of the processual approach, it can be explained that the existence of a group of Berhala islands  has significance for two provincial conflict in ownership, ie, between the Jambi Province and Riau Province. Furthermore, since 2003 after Riau province was divided, between the Jambi Province of Riau Islands province. Both parties to the dispute have the same claim and the reason for the strong evidence that serve as the basis of the demands. Reasons and evidence are classified into several aspects: historical, and socio-cultural, as well as administrative and juridical aspects. Mediation both sides done in several ways.  Firstly,  direct talks between the two warring regions, the latter through the decision of the Minister of Home Affair,  and the third, through the decision of the Supreme Court,  and last through the decision of the Constitutional Court. After a failed attempt to reach agreement through direct negotiations, settlement of disputes resolved through 44 Regulation of the Minister of Home Affir  in 2011, which set a group of Berhala Island into the East Tanjung Jabung  district, Jambi Province. Riau Islands are not satisfied with the Regulation of the Minister make a claim to the Supreme Court (MA). The lawsuit is accepted by the Supreme Court, as well as cancel Permendagri 44. Jambi party who is not satisfied with the subsequent Supreme Court decision to take legal actions with mangajukan claim to the Constitutional Court (MK). The Court then rejected the appeal and issue a decision Jambi strengthen the Supreme Court decision and decided to enter Berhala Great Barrier Island in Lingga regency, Riau Islands Province. With the release of the Court's decision, it ended Berhala  island dispute has been going on for about 30 years.

Abstract

This paper deals with ancient settlements along the Batanghari river basin. region Through the historical and archaeological approach, it can be concluded that the formation of ancient settlements along the watershed (Batanghari) watershed is influenced by the geographical factors, the needs and the interests of the settlers in accordance with the times. Establishment of early settlements in the area of Jambi Hulu has led to the opening of agricultural land in the form of fields, gardens, and paddy fields, and in the next mining is mainly gold. Settlements of Koto Kandis, Muaro Jambi, and Solok Sipin are emerging and emerging settlements driven by their strategic location on international trade routes, supported by many trading commodities in the rural areas traded in these places. The existence of settlements of Padang Rocok / Sungai Lansek, Siguntur and Rambahan, is as a result of the removal of the center of the Malay kingdom that originally resided in Muaro Jambi. Supported by a place that can be reached via the river, and its location close to the production of gold and pepper cause the settlement even developed into a crowded city. The  Rantau Panjang and other settlements in Jambi Hulu were formed as a result of the displacement of the Batin and Penghulu from Minangkabau. Especially the Penghulu their arrival was driven by their interest in gold mining and trading. Their arrival in Jambi Hulu has caused the highlands of Jambi to have a strong Minangkabau influence in various aspects such as adat, kinship social system, language, building style, to some extent including aspects of royal governmentKeyword:  the ancient settlement on the river

Abstract

This paper discusses the War Jambi - Johor in the perspective of social history. The writing is driven by the desire to show the history of Jambi in perspective methodology that is separated from the conventional historical approach. Through a historical approach strukturis Jambi war-Johor occurring within the period 1667 - 1679 are examined using the concepts of the social structure, agency, social change, and the causal power. Thus it is known that the presence of waterway which structurally is an important international shipping lanes. The conflict between the two eventually progress to a series of open war. Jambi's defeat in the war in 1679 has resulted in social change in the empire From the perspective of social history, conflict Jambi - Johor caused by the desire of both parties to seize hegemony in the waterway. The struggle for hegemony driven Jambi. These changes include the loss of Jambi position as the main pepper port on the East Coast of Sumatra, which followed the weakening of the authority of the empire. Weak sultanate authority has changed the role of the Orang Laut from the imperial forces become pirates. The existence of pirates has caused reluctance trader upstream (Minangkabau) to trade in Jambi, and therefore contributes greatly to the income of the sultan. Abstract

This paper discusses the Jambi kingdom and its existence as a country located in international trade routes. This is interesting to study because its growth period coincided with the entry and development of Islam in the archipelago. Thus, this paper examines the influence of Islam on the Jambi Kingdom. By using a multi-dimensional approach and supported by the application of historical methods that refer to scientific history research procedures, the results of this study are expected to provide an explanation of the main problems proposed and so contribute to the development of science, especially about Jambi's local history. In addition, it can be used as material for consideration by related institutions in the context of preserving historical and cultural values and for regional development and development. The results showed that the Jambi kingdom was one of the archipelago's kingdoms that existed from the end of the 15th century to the early 20th century. This kingdom has received the influence of Islam since its inception. Putri Selaro Pinang Masak as the founder of the Jambi kingdom converted to Islam after marrying Ahmad Salim Datuk Paduka Berhalo, a person who came from Turkey and embraced Islam. Since then the Kingdom of Jambi has made Islam the official religion of the kingdom. In this case, the king has the position as head of state as well as religious leader. Orangkayo Hitam is a king who is directly involved with the spread of Islam. As a royal religion, Islam has an influence on royal institutions and people's lives in various aspects. In the political field, Islam influences the designation of the state, king, and the names of the ruling kings. The name of the kingdom changed to the sultanate. The king changed his name to Sultan. Meanwhile, the names of the kings changed from using words from Sankerta or Malay to using words in Arabic. State laws and regulations are now based on Islamic teachings. In the economic field, the influence of Islam can be seen in terms of trading procedures. The usury system is prohibited although in practice it is sometimes violated. In the social and cultural fields, the influence of Islam can be seen in the way of dress, as well as in social relations. Islamic prayers and the prophet's shalawat now strongly influence various ceremonies and arts.
