Abstract

Family support is needed to improve the quality of life in type 2 DM patients. This study aims to identify the relationship between family support in terms of four dimensions (emotional, appreciation, instrumental and information) with the quality of life of type 2 DM patients at the Jambi City Health Center. The design in this study was cross-sectional analytic with a sample size of 120 patients with type 2 DM. Data analysis used Pearson's correlation coefficient, independent t-test and multiple linear regression. The results showed that the variables related to quality of life were age (p value 0.034; α 0.05), education (p value 0.001; α 0.05) and complications (p value 0.001; α 0.05). There is a relationship between family support in terms of four dimensions and quality of life (p value 0.001, α: 0.05). An increase in one family support unit will increase the quality of life by 35% after being controlled by education and DM complications. Nurses can increase family support with structured health education, facilitate the provision of family support as well as supervision and monitoring related to the application of family empowerment in providing nursing care to patients with type 2 DM

Abstract

Elderly individuals are defined as those aged 60 years and above. In general, aging is accompanied by a gradual decline in biological, psychological, social, and economic functions. One of the most common health problems among the elderly is Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). RA is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation in the joints, particularly in the hands and feet, leading to pain, swelling, and often joint damage. Non-pharmacological therapy management can be applied to reduce pain and inflammation, maintain joint function, and prevent deformities. These include resting painful joints, maintaining an ideal body weight, ensuring adequate nutrition, applying warm compresses, and performing physiotherapy. Based on these considerations, this community service activity aimed to improve the health quality of the elderly and reduce pain intensity through the application of warm water and lemongrass compress therapy. The activity was conducted from March to August 2023, specifically on July 12–13, 2023, at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Luhur Jambi. The participants consisted of 39 individuals (elderly residents and staff). The method used was direct simulation and demonstration on elderly participants experiencing pain. The results of the activity showed a reduction in pain intensity among all elderly participants following the intervention. The outcomes of this community service included an overall improvement in the quality of life of the elderly, a reduction in joint pain complaints, enhanced knowledge regarding herbal-based non-pharmacological therapy, and the strengthening of holistic nursing approaches in the elderly care setting. Additionally, this activity is planned for publication in a nationally accredited journal as part of the dissemination of community empowerment results.

Abstract

Reproductive health is a crucial aspect of individual and community life. Factors influencing reproductive health include social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors. School Health Units (UKS) are educational units' efforts to instill, foster, develop, and enhance healthy living skills. Reproductive health issues prevalent among adolescents represent a small fraction of the overall reproductive health problem. Therefore, one effort that can be taken is to establish and activate School Health Units. These School Health Units (UKS) play a crucial role in helping to increase knowledge about adolescent reproductive health through various means, including providing appropriate and correct education on adolescent reproductive health, so that students can obtain reliable information. The material was delivered through lectures, discussions, and Q&A sessions with participants using flipcharts. After the education, each young woman was asked to explain reproductive health to her friends and was divided into two groups. This was so that the Community Service team could monitor the young women's ability to educate their peers. The results showed an increase in knowledge of 90% and sufficient knowledge of 10%. It is hoped that the Health Unit (UKS) will continue to monitor the increase in knowledge of young women about reproductive health. This is certainly very necessary for young women who manage the UKS in managing the UKS related to reproductive health.

Abstract

Reproductive health (Kespro) is an important aspect that should be introduced from adolescence, as this period is a transition to adulthood marked by physical, psychological, and social changes. A lack of understanding of reproductive health can lead to risky behavior among adolescents. This community service activity was carried out at SMP Pertiwi 1 Kota Jambi with the aim of optimizing the role of the School Health Unit (UKS) in improving students’ knowledge of reproductive health. The method used was health education through counseling, interactive presentations, and group discussions. The activity was conducted from March to August 2025. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test instruments administered to 10 UKS team students. The results showed that before education, the students’ level of knowledge was in the good category for 8 students (80%), sufficient for 2 students (20%), and poor for 0 students (0%). After education, students’ knowledge improved to the good category for all 10 students (100%), while sufficient and poor categories were not found (0%). Although most students already have good knowledge, there are still 20% of students with sufficient knowledge. Education is needed to align the understanding of all members of the Health and Safety Team, prevent information gaps between students, and ensure all participants have correct and standardized knowledge. These findings indicate a significant improvement in students’ knowledge after receiving education. Thus, this activity proves that reproductive health education through the optimization of the UKS team is effective in increasing knowledge and creating positive changes before and after implementation. It is expected that similar programs can be carried out sustainably so that students gain adequate provisions to maintain reproductive health from an early age.

Abstract

Adolescent girls who have experienced menstruation need to have a good understanding of reproductive health. Improper menstrual hygiene practices can increase the risk of reproductive tract infections (RTIs), which in the long term can impact fertility. Data shows that reproductive tract infections remain a health problem for adolescent girls, mainly due to a lack of knowledge and inappropriate personal hygiene practices. A preliminary study at SMP Pertiwi 1, Jambi City, showed that 3 out of 6 female students experienced genital itching accompanied by an unpleasant odor, and there were still inappropriate behaviors in maintaining hygiene during menstruation. This condition indicates the potential for reproductive health problems in the school environment. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with reproductive organ hygiene behavior during menstruation in adolescent girls at SMP Pertiwi 1, Jambi City. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were all 36 eighth-grade female students of SMP Pertiwi 1, Jambi City. A sample of 36 respondents was taken using a total sampling technique. The independent variables in this study were knowledge and attitudes, while the dependent variable was reproductive organ hygiene behavior during menstruation. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire based on the theory of adolescent reproductive health and menstrual personal hygiene, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The study was conducted from September 2024 to August 2025. The results of the bivariate test showed no significant relationship between knowledge and behavior (p = 0.292) or between attitudes and behavior (p = 1.000). The conclusion of this study is that there is no significant relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes with reproductive organ hygiene behavior during menstruation in adolescent girls at SMP Pertiwi 1, Jambi City. It is recommended that schools integrate reproductive health education into the curriculum or UKS activities to improve understanding and practice of menstrual hygiene more optimally
