Abstract

Introduction: Anemia in pregnancy is a condition of a mother with a hemoglobin level below 11 gr/dl in the first and third trimesters, or a hemoglobin level of less than 10.5 gr/dl in the second trimester. In Indonesia, anemia is generally caused by iron deficiency. Iron deficiency anemia is anemia caused by a deficiency of iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12 due to inadequate intake or low availability of iron. Efforts that can be made to overcome the lack of iron intake in pregnant women are to regularly consume Fe tablets. The presence of side effects from Fe tablets and physiological changes during pregnancy may increase pregnant women's non-compliance in consuming Fe tablets. Non-compliance between pregnant women consuming Fe tablets can cause anemia in pregnant women. The source of iron is not only obtained from consuming iron (Fe) tablets. Pregnant women can get iron from various foods that contain iron, including tomatoes. Objective: This literature review aims  to examine further about giving tomato juice to increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. Method: The method used in writing this article is a review of research results related to giving tomato juice to increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. Result: Based on the articles that have been analyzed, it can be seen that giving tomato juice can increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with anemia.  Conclusion: Tomato juice can accelerate the absorption of iron and increase the production of red blood cells so that hemoglobin levels increase. Referring to these conclusions, pregnant women should consume tomato juice regularly.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a significant nutritional issue characterized by chronic malnutrition, negatively impacting children's growth, development, and productivity throughout their lives. Proper nutrition, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life, is essential to prevent stunting. The lack of protein intake, especially from animal sources, is a major contributing factor to stunting in Indonesia. Objective: The purpose of this public service was to increase the knowledge of mothers with toddlers and health cadres regarding the importance of animal protein intake as part of the "Isi Piringku" campaign to prevent stunting in Sindangrasa Village, Ciamis Regency. Method: This public service was conducted in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The preparation stage involved coordination with local authorities for permission and logistical arrangements. The implementation stage included pre-test knowledge assessments, an educational session using slide presentations and leaflets, and interactive discussions. The evaluation stage involved post-test assessments to measure knowledge improvement. Result: The service was attended by 30 participants, consisting of health cadres and mothers with toddlers. Pre-test results showed that 50% of participants had moderate knowledge, while 30% had low knowledge about the role of animal protein in preventing stunting. After the educational session, the percentage of participants with good knowledge increased to 53.33%, while those with moderate knowledge decreased to 46.67%. Conclusion: The findings suggest that education using slide presentations and leaflets is effective in increasing knowledge about stunting prevention through balanced nutrition. Raising awareness among mothers and health cadres is crucial in promoting behavior changes that support adequate animal protein intake to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Introduction: The nutritional needs of pregnant women increase 2-3 times as the gestational age increases. Fulfilling the dietary needs of pregnant women is a challenge, especially for low- and middle-income countries. Many pregnant women in poor countries experience micronutrient deficiencies. Micronutrient deficiencies can have a negative impact on pregnant women because they can cause problems for the health of the mother and fetus. The effect of deficiencies of micronutrients, namely iron, folic acid, and B12 in pregnant women is anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is one of the most common diseases during pregnancy. In addition to iron and folic acid supplements which are intended to anticipate anemia problems, pregnant women also need other micronutrient components in the form of vitamins and minerals. Multi Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) is one of the global strategies recommended by the United Nations International Childhood Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to prevent micronutrient deficiencies. Objective: The literature review aims to examine the benefits of consuming Multi Micronutrient Supplements (MMN) in overcoming anemia in pregnant women. Method: The method used in writing this article is a review of research results related to the provision of MMS to overcome anemia in pregnant women.
