Abstract

This article is discussing on how the rise and tide of Minangkabau traditional trading occur in Kuala Lumpur. The research focused on four areas in Kuala Lumpur, Chow Kit, Kampung Baru, Kampung Dato’ Keramat and Mesjid India area, reveals that there are some small stalls of Minangkabau  traditional trading are now owned by another Indonesian ethnicity such as Acehenese and Boyanese tribe. Meanwhile, some of the businesses are still possessed by Minangkabau tribe such as Nasi Padang and textile trading. The phenomenon is affected by the lack of business innovation, capital, local competitor and the fact that they are unable to follow the trend in business. Even though,  there are some of well-developed traditional business run by Minangkabau people in Kuala Lumpur due to the existence of marketing creativity, innovative items, and the conducive partnership with another Minangkabau entrepreneurs in the textile merchant  in form of kiosk or  arcade in Mesjid India area that has connection with another counterpart of the  nationwide  including Sabah and Sarawak.

Abstract

This research was conducted in 13 villages of Secanggang district, North Sumatra Province-Indonesia. This study describes the capacity and condition of harmonious interaction among ethnical communities in regional development, which focuses on villager motivation as intervening variables. Motivation is a very important instrument in bridging the concepts of harmony among communities towards regional development. Development of a region is implemented through harmonious interaction among various ethnic communities that can serve motivation as an intervening variable. This study uses a combination of qualitative (exploratory) and quantitative method.  There is one factor that plays a role as a determinant factor in causing successful development. The interaction, either directly or indirectly, generates assimilation between ethnical cultures.

Abstract

This PKM (Public Service) program was performed to increase the economic capacity of the service partners – women/wives who are under the IKMR (Railroad Track Young Family Association) at Lingkungan 12, Kelurahan Helvetia, Medan. Besides that, this activity also becomes an ideal need in encouraging the realization of socialpreneurship in lower class people. This activity was done through the penetration in various forms of making wet and dry cakes. It took 1 (one) month. It consisted of the presentation of marketing strategy and the training about making various kinds of wet and dry cakes. Besides the proposing team, this activity also involved some practitioners and graduate students in instilling the strengthening form to the partners. This service progressiveness included 1) the partners’ capacity to manage and use social capital as a marketing instrument, 2) the partners had the capacity to run online based-marketing system, and 3) the increase in the partners’ capacity to produce wet and dry cakes which had good taste

Abstract

Abstract Rationalization of parent’s education is an intended action thru meaningful consideration and thought to choose higher education institution. This rationale is based on the data derived from many information resources which can predict many future possibilities before it comes to a decision. New orientation is as a change of self conception and parent’s education rationalization in giving choice of many conventional options before a child enter English Department, of faculty of letters in higher education institution. Due to this, somebody’s action is usually based on the stipulated objective, interest and motivation or may be by both. Children’s interest in this case, gives intrinsic motivation for themselves. Thus, orientation in choosing higher education of faculty of letters, English Department can be happened because of the rationalization influence of parent’s education and communication. Abstract

This research is entitled "Survival strategy of rubber farmers when there is a decline in rubber prices in Ampung Padang Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency". The location of this study was chosen because the majority of the population in Ampung Padang Village make a living as rubber farmers. This study aims to determine the survival strategy of rubber farmers when there is a decline in rubber prices in Ampung Padang Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency and to find out the forms of strategies that rubber farmers use when rubber prices decline. The research method used is a descriptive study method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, in-depth interviews, and literature study. The informants in this study were rubber farmers in Ampung Padang Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency. Data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results showed that there were three strategies that rubber farmers used to survive, namely: active strategy, passive strategy, and network strategy. The active strategy carried out by rubber farmers is to look for side jobs, join family members to work and optimize all available resources. The passive strategy carried out by rubber farmers is to apply a frugal lifestyle and reduce family expenses. The network strategy used by rubber farmers is to ask for help from the social networks they have, both formal and informal networks.

Abstract

The School Literacy Movement (GLS) which is implemented in Indonesia in accordance with the direction of the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture (Permendikbud) Number 23 of 2015, is not only the ability to read and write, but includes thinking and behavior skills, namely as the outcome of a comprehensive effort involving all school members, including teachers, students, parents/guardians, and the community, which are components of the educational ecosystem that relies on the role and completeness of school library facilities and infrastructure. The purpose of this study, to describe the application of GLS in Junior High Schools in North Binjai District, Binjai City, North Sumatra. Data collection was carried out following the paradigm of qualitative research, namely observation, in-depth interviews, which were complemented by a study of documentation. The data is sourced from all stakeholders including the Principal, Teachers, School Committees, Students, and Librarians. The results of the study illustrate that the implementation of GLS in junior high schools in North Binjai District still does not meet the National Education Standards (SNP), both public and private schools, so that there needs to be firmness in local government policies and stakeholder commitment to implementing GLS which results in outstanding students, have good behavior and character, have insight into knowledge and excellent learning achievements.

Abstract

This study describes the inter-ethnic solidarity in the charismatic Mawar Sharon church in Medan City, Indonesia, also known as the Connect Group Church.The qualitative and ethnographic approaches were used to determine the solidarity in Charismatic Churches where people are separated by ethnicity. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with respondents actively involved in the activities of the religious connect groups, such as sponsors, coaches, and team leaders. The results showed that the activities in the community include fellowship, ice breakers, praise and worship, and material sharing as a form of learning about inter-ethnic solidarity among members. Furthermore, active members such as team leaders, sponsors, and coaches play significant roles in these activities. Meanwhile, music and church songs are used to strengthen the relationship between members.

Abstract

The purpose of this research article is to find out the role of the Medan City government in ensuring the welfare of persons with disabilities, the efforts that have been realized by the Medan City government in ensuring the welfare of persons with disabilities and the obstacles found by the Medan City government in ensuring the welfare of persons with disabilities. In Indonesia, all access and empowerment for persons with disabilities are still not effective. This is evident from the lack of provision of public facilities for persons with disabilities, schools or non-formal education for persons with disabilities, empowerment from the government or other agencies as well as periodic social assistance. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research type. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews and literature studies. The results of this study explain that the role of the Medan City Government through the Social Service in the welfare of persons with disabilities consists of four aspects, namely: the aspect of the facilitator by purchasing and providing assistive facilities and distributing them to persons with disabilities who have been recorded every month. The regulatory aspect of the efforts being made is implementing all the rules and policies based on the Ministry of Social Affairs Regulation Number 2 of 2021 concerning persons with disabilities. From the point of view of the caalitator inviting social problem institutions such as PSM (Community Social Worker), PKSK (District Social Welfare Worker) and TKSPD (Social Welfare Workers for Persons with Disabilities) and the obstacle encountered is the limited budget funds to buy auxiliary equipment facilities, only 75 units each months, there is a quota (limit) for receiving direct cash assistance and there is no Regional Regulation or Medan City Mayor Regulation regarding persons with disabilities

Abstract

The village community is synonymous with an agrarian society, this is marked by a livelihood as a farmer in fulfilling the economic needs of his family, so that the existence and ownership of land becomes very important. However, in the course of time, due to economic demands, it is not uncommon for people to convert land from paddy fields, namely subsistence crops to oil palm plantations. This condition occurs in the Transmigrant community of Batang Pane II Village. This condition attracts researchers to conduct studies by describing in depth the changes that occur in the conditions of socio-economic structure, status and roles, orientation of cultural values and stratification as a result of land conversion. The focus of this research is to find out what factors influence the occurrence of land conversion from paddy fields to oil palm plantations and what phenomena occur in structural, social and economic values due to land conversion to the lives of the second generation of people. In this study the research method used is descriptive method with a qualitative approach.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis dampak pernikahan dini terhadap tingkat perceraian, dan masalah remaja yang menikah dini setelah memutuskan untuk bercerai. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, dilakukan di Desa Ujung Kubu, Kabupaten Batu Bara. Pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan. Uji keabsahan digunakan confirmability, tranfebility, defendability. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan; 1) pernikahan dini meningkatkan angka perceraian karena; ketidaksiapan mental, belum sanggup menafkahi keluarga, belum memiliki pekerjaan tetap, bergantung pada orangtua, pemikiran masih labil, perselingkuhan, belum memiliki batasan tegas pada nilai/norma dalam berinteraksi diluar rumah. 2) Masalah yang dialami setelah bercerai diantaranya; menjadi topik pembicaraan masyarakat karna status janda/duda diumur yang masih muda, putusnya hubungan silaturahmi antar keluarga mantan suami/istri. Kesimpulannya bahwa menikah dini memberikan dampak negatif bagi remaja dan menyumbang angka perceraian. Kata kunci: pernikahan dini, perceraian, desa ujung kubu
