Abstract

This study reviews the state of knowledge on MSME sustainability with a focus on empirical research in emerging Asian countries. By employing a combination of bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review (SLR) techniques, the study draws upon a comprehensive pool of 950 articles sourced from the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases to evaluate trends, gaps, and scholarly contributions within this domain. Results show a clear rise in MSME-sustainability research over the past decade, with Indonesia and India leading scholarly output. Yet several drivers and themes remain underexplored, revealing both theoretical and practical gaps. As the first systematic effort to synthesize research on MSME sustainability within the context of emerging Asian economies, the study offers original insights and a structured agenda for future research. Given MSMEs’ central role in development and their relevance to the SDGs, the findings underscore the need for targeted inquiry and stronger policy support to advance effective sustainability strategies in the region.

Abstract

Understanding how information influences consumer behavior during a public health crisis is crucial for both businesses and policymakers in managing risk communication and sustaining economic activity. Since the announcement of the first case of COVID-19 in early March 2020, the timeline across both mass and social media has been dominated by information about the virus. This information has increased public awareness of the risk of contracting COVID-19 when engaging in activities outside the home, including shopping. As a result, most shopping activities have shifted online. However, online shopping does not entirely eliminate the risk of virus transmission. This study aims to investigate the impact of COVID-19 information in mass and social media on trust in online retailers and online shopping behavior, with risk perception as a mediating variable. A survey was conducted with 1,212 respondents across Indonesia, and the data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results indicate that COVID-19-related information directly influences consumers’ online purchasing behavior, while trust in online retailers affects behavior indirectly through the mediation of risk perception.

Abstract

As smart cities increasingly rely on digital platforms to deliver public services, citizen participation becomes essential for ensuring effective and sustainable service delivery. However, limited research has examined which citizen-related factors drive co-creation behaviors in smart city contexts, particularly in emerging economies. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence the co-creation behaviors of online public services in five smart cities in Indonesia through the city’s digital platform and online social network (OSN). This study analyzes whether citizen factors, namely, perceived benefits over the city and OSN friends, trust in the city and OSN friends, and self-efficacy, affect co-creation behaviors leading to citizen satisfaction. A survey with 1009 respondents was conducted in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, and Denpasar, and the collected data were analyzed using covariancebased structural equation modelling. The results show that perceived benefit from OSN friends is the dominant factor that affects co-creation behaviors, which in turn affects citizen satisfaction. These findings highlight the critical role of OSN in fostering co-creation and suggest that integrating online public services with OSN can enhance service quality and citizen satisfaction.
