Abstract

Hypertension is an abnormal and ongoing rise in blood pressure recorded more than once. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how family support and self-efficacy in managing one's hypertension relate to one another. This study used a cross-sectional research design with 245 participants. According to the study, those with high self-efficacy also typically had effective self-management (64.2 %). Regarding poor self-management, the dominant group is less adept at it (57.2 %). The dominant person in the excellent family support variable exhibits good self-management (61.1 %). Less family support results in poorer self-management for the dominating group (57.1 %). According to the chi-square test results, self-efficacy (p-value=0.006) and family support (p-value=0.001) are connected to self-management. In conclusion, patients with hypertension tend to control their condition better themselves if they have strong self-efficacy and family support.

Abstract

Failure of the treatment process by administering intravenous drugs to patients has the potential to endanger patient safety. PMKP reports regarding drug administration errors in a Private Hospital in Banjarmasin City were 3 cases in 2018, 4 cases in 2019, 2 cases in 2020, and one case in 2021. The research objective was to determine the relationship between nurse characteristics and adherence to the principles of correct intravenous drug administration. The research method used a cross-sectional research model. The research was conducted at a private hospital in the city of Banjarmasin. The sampling technique consisted of cluster sampling and simple random sampling with a total of 35 samples. The data collection technique was an observation sheet. Data analysis used univariate with frequency distribution and bivariate with Spearman Rank and Chi-Square. The results showed that 23 respondents (65.7%) were included in the category of obedient nurses, and from the spearman ranking results obtained a comparison value of age compliance 0.091 > 0.05 with a correlation coefficient of 0.290. The Chi-Square results for gender with adherence were 0.327 > 0.05 with a correlation coefficient of 2.029. Education results from Spearman Rank 0.465 > 0.05 with a correlation coefficient of 0.128, and length of work with obedience 0.005 <0.05 with a correlation coefficient of 0.467. Nurses who have diverse characteristics are expected to be able to carry out and work together to carry out the principles of correct intravenous drug administration, especially double examination, asking about drug allergies, and patient complaints before and after drug administration, checking drug expiration dates, identifying patients, recording patient complaints, and reasons for drug refusal. Keywords: characteristics of nurses, nurse compliance, correct principles of drug administration

Abstract

Mistakes made when administering intravenous drugs to patients can jeopardize their safety. According to the PMKP report, there were three cases of medication administration errors in one private hospital in Banjarmasin City in 2018, four cases in 2019, two cases in 2020, and one in 2021. This study aimed to see how nurses' characteristics and career paths affect the application of the six correct principles of intravenous drug administration. This study was conducted using a cross-sectional research model. Thirty-five samples were taken through simple and cluster random sampling techniques. Observation sheets were used to collect data. For multivariate data analysis, frequency distribution and multiple linear regression were used. The results showed that nurses applied the six correct principles of intravenous drug administration in the excellent category as many as 23 respondents (65.7%), and the results of multiple linear regression tests obtained the results of a significant influence between career level variables on the application of the six correct principles of intravenous drug administration with a p-value of 0.033 (>0.05). This p-value indicates that the relationship between career level and applying the six correct principles of intravenous drug administration is statistically significant. At the same time, there was no significant influence between nurse characteristics, including age variables, gender, and education level, where the p-value successively on the age variable was 9.437, 0.605, 0.742, where the value was >0.05. The modeling results on each variable, namely career level and nurse characteristics, were simultaneously influenced by 0.481 (48%) in applying the six correct principles of intravenous drug administration. This means that career level and nurse characteristics explain 48% of the variation in applying these principles. Nurses have a graded career path from PK I to PK V, with higher levels of experience and knowledge that contribute to the application of nursing care. Nurses are also expected to have various characteristics that enable them to carry out and cooperate in the implementation of the six correct principles of intravenous drug administration, especially double-checking, asking for allergies to drugs, patient complaints before and after drug administration, checking drug expiration dates, patient identity, recording patient complaints, and patient reasons for refusing drugs. Keywords: career path, nurse characteristics, application of the six correct principles of intravenous drug administration
