Abstract

In an increasingly interconnected world, public speaking skills are essential for high school students. These skills foster effective communication, build self-confidence, and prepare students for future challenges. This community service project aimed to enhance public speaking abilities among students at Madrasah Aliyah ‘Aisyiyah Sungguminasa. An audience-centered approach was employed, incorporating five stages: pre-presentation, early evaluation, orientation, post-presentation, and feedback. Forty-seven students actively participated in the training. While participants demonstrated increased basic public speaking knowledge and skills, mastering public speaking theory and practice required further development. Challenges included public speaking anxiety and technical difficulties, yet participants exhibited improved body language during the second presentation.

Abstract

The urgency of this research lies in the increasing frequency and complexity of disasters in South Sulawesi, which demand that regional bureaucracies be able to innovate adaptively. This study aims to analyze the forms and characteristics of public service innovation, the factors influencing the bureaucracy’s role in accelerating disaster response, and the challenges of its implementation. The method used is a qualitative approach involving in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation to understand bureaucratic innovation practices in crises comprehensively. Data analysis was conducted using NVivo 12 Plus with systematic coding and source triangulation to ensure the credibility of the research findings. The main findings of the study indicate that public service innovations in disaster management in South Sulawesi emerged in the form of simplified procedures, the formation of cross-governmental organizations (OPD) teams, the use of digital technology, and strengthened collaboration with the community and non-governmental actors. These innovations have been shown to accelerate responses, improve service accuracy, and enhance the quality of public services for affected communities. However, the effectiveness of innovation is strongly influenced by institutional capacity, bureaucratic leadership, cross-sector coordination, and regulatory and resource support. The study also found that public service innovations tend to be reactive and temporary, requiring institutionalization and policy strengthening to ensure sustainability over the long-term disaster cycle.

Abstract

This study explores the application  of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) based on digital simulation in the learning of the Lobbying, Presentation, and Negotiation Engineering Course, as well as its contribution to  students' interpersonal communication competencies and life skills. Using  a descriptive qualitative approach  with reflexive thematic analysis, data were obtained from 10 group simulation video documents, in-depth interviews, and classroom practical observations. The results showed that the integration of PjBL and digital simulation encouraged improved verbal and nonverbal communication, critical thinking, empathy, and self-management, as well as more confident and strategic communication expressions. The collaborative process strengthens self-expression and critical reflection, which is the foundation of life skills development. The findings confirm that project-based digital simulations are effective as a communication learning strategy, while facilitating the transformation of students' social-cognitive competencies in the digital era.
