The Indonesian people as a nation consist of a variety of ethnic groups with differentiated culture as well as witch has been planted over such long periods by authorities, has finally exploded coming to the surface in form of various rioting. Should a more in-depth analysis be made then, the actual basic matter to bridge the problem in the existing tolerance for the differences within our multicultural society. An understanding of a certain related tolerance according to François Shanen is expressed in language. As such, literary works and other essays in newspaper with SARA as themes as well as the nation disintegration, forms the corpus of this investigation. From the analysis of the interdiscourse between literary and non-literary texts, it has been conclude that there exists a parallel of thought patterns offered by the literary and non-literary texts against the insight of tolerance in Indonesia, that is violence in the country as caused by there being no tolerance for that which is difference be in differing opinions as to religion, ethnicity or race. Such matter has brought forth the spread of deceptive hatred against religious, racial and certain ethic groups.

Abstract

According to studies on popular children’s songs, songs can be a medium for forming a child’s mindset through reflection and memories contained in the lyrics and video clips of the songs. Popular children’s songs can also be used to spread gender ideology. Using Simone de Beauvoir’s gender approach and Julia Suryakusuma’s Ibuism Negara (National Motherism), this research demonstrates elements of gender inequality found in two songs by Papa T. Bob, namely Dudidudidam (video clip: Enno Lerian) and Papa Cinta Mama (video clip: Saskia and Savira), both created during the reign of the New Order. These elements combine to form the concept of family, which was developed during the New Order government. The results of this study’s analysis, using a descriptive qualitative approach and a read-see technique, lead to the domestication and objectification of women in the New Order era family concept attached to children in the lyrics and videos of popular children’s songs entitled Dudidudidam and Papa Cinta by Papa T. Bob.

Abstract

A secondary burial practice known as Mangongkal Holi originated in the Toba Batak people. For hundreds of years, the Toba Batak tribe has incorporated this ceremony completely. Mangongkal Holi, unlike other Indonesian burial customs that have been successful in attracting tourists like the Ngaben and Rambu Solo celebrations, is going through an existential crisis, as evidenced by the somewhat less intense manner in which it is currently being practiced. The purpose of this study is to examine how the discourse around the Mangongkal Holi rite contributes to the development of Toba Batak cultural identity. In-depth interviews with Toba Batak tribal members served as the source of the research's data, along with a literature review. This study uses Ernesto Laclau's insight analysis as its analytical framework. According to the findings, the Mangongkal Holi ritual was articulated into four nodal points: reverence for ancestors, indifference to other religions, prestige, and unity. Based on the subject position analysis, the individuals from Jakarta Toba Batak demonstrate that there is a contingency of identity for Jakarta Toba Batak in the Mangongkal Holi discourse brought on by the individual's involvement with traditional institutions. The Mangongkal Holi rite seeks to promote clan harmony among those Jakarta Toba Batak people who have a close relationship with adat. It is no longer relevant to the social reality of Jakarta, which stresses efficiency in all aspects of life, such as time and money efficiency, for Jakarta Toba Batak people who are far from the Mangongkal Holi ceremony.

Abstract

Violence against women through narratives and scenes becomes one of the interesting discussions, especially in the novel adapted into the film Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas. This research aims to uncover the representation of violence against women in the adaptation process from novel to film. This research is qualitative with a descriptive method. The approach used in this research is to look at the narrative aspects of the novel, relationships, and correlations of violence against women. Violence against women in film uses the concepts of cinematography, vehicle transfer, and narrative, in building visuals of violence against women. The results of this study show the representation of violence against women through Iteung and Rona Merah. Iteung shows the relationship between her childhood and the formation of masculine character in adolescence. This also shows the ecranisation in the form of reduction in the film. Rona Merah provides an image as an object of sexual violence who experiences psychological disorders as a form of trauma in the past. New media other than film are the caricatures on the tailgate of a truck, which are closely related to the problems of men and women.

Abstract

Abstract

The revolutionary period is described as an important chapter in modern Indonesian history. At this time, self-awareness as an independent nation was formed within the Indonesian people. As one of the women writers during the revolutionary era, Rukiah’s thoughts made enthusiasm within the framework of liberating women. This research seeks to reveal Rukiah's position as a woman writer by using the women as a writer or ginocritic approach in the short stories "Mak Esah" and "Istri Prajurit" in Tandus (first published in 1952 and reprinted in 2017). The results of the study show that Rukiah gives a picture of reality in her works. Apart from that, he also gave a portraits of life during the revolutionary period by using a straightforward language as well as symbolic language. From the results of the ginocritical reading, it was revealed that Rukiah really upholds the spirit of change for women. However, he has not shown any effort to support women's condition to be free from male oppression. The depiction of female characters physically and mentally has not shown Rukiah's alignment with the view of freeing women from oppression.

Abstract

This study uses the folklore of Purbasari Ayu Wangi atawa Lutung Kasarung by Ajip Rosidi (2008) and its adaptation works in the form of an advertisement for Marjan's product which will be broadcast in 2020. It is interesting to study this work to see how a folktale undergoes multiple transformations and still experiences changes when used as a commercial tool in the form of advertisements on television today. This research examine how ride-hailing travels in two media, namely text and video advertisements. The method used in this study is a qualitative method  focuses on adaptation. Theories and concepts used in this study are A.J. Greimas' structural theory, the concepts of adaptation, folklore, and advertising media discourse. The purpose of this research is to find out the family reconciliation contained in both corpus. The results of the study show that changes in media result in ideological changes in the conflicts shown through video advertisements. The journey of conflict in Purbasari Ayu Wangi atawa Lutung Kasarung shows how the power of older siblings dominates younger siblings. Family reconciliation is shown by how women are weak and dependent on men. Meanwhile, in the advertisement for Marjan 2020, the character Purbasari is shown to have power over herself. The presence of a man, namely Lutung Kasarung, plays a role in helping family reconciliation, but Purbasari appears with her own strength in resolving internal family conflicts. This research helps show how re-direction can improve the position of women without changing the core story.

Abstract

Serat Centhini is one of the greatest literary works in New Javanese Literature, written around 1742 (Javanese Year) or 1814, containing a collection of various knowledge related to Javanese Culture. Serat Chentini’s greatness has been sought to be preserved to the present in the form of adaptations, both in the form of adaptations, both in the form of lyrical prose, novels and even into the 21st century, it has been translated into soap operas and television shows. Serat Centhini is considered a reference to the spirituality of Javanese society, namely Javanese Sufism. This article discusses the secularization of Serat Centhini in the process of transferring its vehicle to the musical performance art ‘Serat-serat Centhini’ by the Hip Hop music Group ‘Kill The DJ’ (2011) and the Dance ‘Centhini Gunung’ (2016) as a product of creative industry. Through this two adaptations, Serat Centhini is represented in the contemporary context that contains a tension between sexuality and spirituality. The research results show that there is a process of secularization of religious values in the transformation of the two texts over vehicles to support the creative industry context, so that things that refer to religious values appear profane.
