Abstract

The competition in the Indonesian TV broadcasting industry is very intense. To win the race, they must capture the audience’s attention. Unfortunately, not all TV stations can gather information about this due to a lack of human and financial resources. References related to this topic are also scarce. This article examines the factors influencing viewers’ choices of TV stations through a mixed-method approach. In qualitative research through Focus Group Discussions, the researchers concluded that there are 23 factors affecting viewers in choosing TV stations. The findings from the quantitative study were tested through a questionnaire instrument involving 1,102 respondents. Based on statistical tests using regression analysis, the researchers obtained an R Square (R2) value of 0.644, which is statistically significant. Partially, through ANOVA testing, the researchers found that 12 independent variables had t-values greater than the t-table value (1.960) with a significance level of <0.05. These 12 variables, from the most significant to the least significant, are X13, X5, X4, X7, X17, X9, X3, X10, X2, X1, X6, and X19. However, when considering the effective contribution percentage, this study produces a different ranking, leading to different recommendations. Therefore, the use of research findings requires careful analysis. Meanwhile, in the same ANOVA test, the researchers concluded that the other 11 variables, namely X8, X11, X12, X14, X15, X16, X18, X20, X21, X22, and X23, had t-values above 0.05, meaning they are not significant. This research significantly contributes to TV station managers in formulating strategies to attract as many viewers as possible. Keywords: Television broadcast, competition, confirmatory factors analyses, television organising, television engagement ABSTRAKPersaingan siaran TV di Indonesia sangat ketat.

Abstract

Memes are popular cultural products that has gained significant influence in the political communication, particularly among younger demographics. With their ability to combine textual and visual elements, memes have become an effective instrument for conveying socio-political aspirations and critiques in the digital age. This study utilizes Barthes' semiotic theory to analyze the denotative and connotative meanings of elements within political memes. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to provide an in-depth description of the construction of political narratives. Data collection was conducted through two principal methods: literature analysis and content uploads on platform X (Twitter) using the purposive Search Advanced Technology (SAT). The findings show that political memes represent public dissatisfaction with political actors, government elites, and policymakers, making them a strategic informal communication instrument. The study successfully identifies national and international political narratives and situations. Meme products have simplified political narratives, attracted public attention, stimulated critical discussions, and built collective awareness. In conclusion, political memes on social media play a crucial role in representing modern political dynamics and the centralization of media in shaping public perception, as well as facilitating political discourse. By emphasizing the relevance of modern digital culture, this study pioneers in explaining the role of memes as a product of popular culture. However, this research is limited to platform X (Twitter), and cross-platform studies with a mixed-methods approach are necessary for a more holistic understanding of memes in advanced political discourse. This finding contributes to the study of political communication and contemporary digital culture.

Abstract

Oral health is essential for overall human well-being. Everyone, regardless of age—whether young or old—must maintain good dental hygiene, including kindergarten children in rural areas. Unfortunately, knowledge of oral health and tooth-brushing skills among kindergarten students in these regions remains inadequate. To improve their understanding of dental health and proper brushing techniques, effective educational methods are required. In response to this issue, a community service team implemented a multi-method approach targeting two groups: primary and secondary beneficiaries. The primary group consisted of kindergarten students, who were engaged through interactive counseling, demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, singing, games, rewards, and practical tooth-brushing exercises. Meanwhile, for the secondary group—teachers and parents—the team utilized persuasive communication via WhatsApp messages, providing oral health education and encouraging parents to consistently remind their children to practice proper dental hygiene daily. Based on the program evaluation, the multi-method approach was proven effective in enhancing both the knowledge and skills of kindergarten children in maintaining oral health. Furthermore, it contributed to creating an environment that fosters healthy behavior among children. Therefore, the team believes that dental health practitioners and educators can adopt similar methods to achieve optimal outcomes in promoting oral health awareness.

Abstract

Objective: COVID-19 in Indonesia spawned a second wave in June-August 2021 and packed the hospitals, making the COVID-19 patients with mild or no symptoms have to self-isolate at home. However, the patient's condition often changed rapidly and worsened, so regular monitoring was needed to prevent death during self-isolating. The BNPB DIY Health Care Task Force formed a Telemedicine Team to monitor patients online with detailed information on doing self-isolation safely at home. Its Media Team created educational videos and posters as effective educational media. Contents: The Media Team consisted of presenters, scriptwriters, videographers, and graphic designers. It determined the topic of the content of the video messages and posters based on what information is needed and must-known by the patient during self-isolation. After that, the coordinator and manuscript writer collected evidence-based data and relevant regulations. The information included the emergency signs during self-isolating and medicines needed to prepare. It also had information on how to measure body temperature and oxygen levels using an oximeter, use a blood pressure meter, do prone position if short of breath, sunbathe, and tips on training the sense of smell in patients with anosmia. As a volunteer for the BNPB DIY Health Care Task Force Thickening to patients who were self-isolating at home, the doctor conveyed all the information compiled. The duration of the video was 1-5 minutes, equipped with supporting footage. The video results were uploaded through the BNPB DIY Task Force's Instagram and Youtube accounts and also shared through Whatsapp so that self-isolating patients could easily access and download them. Information also visualized the material in the form of posters. From the evaluation, the patient felt helped and understood all the information in the message and could practice it easily.

Abstract

This training aims to provide understanding and skills to partners of Mina Ngremboko fish farmers in Bokesan Hamlet, Sindumartani, Ngemplak, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The problem for fish farmer partners lies in the ineffectiveness of controlling pond water quality. So far, partners have used titen science, so the accuracy of water conditions cannot be properly known. This training is to introduce a water control device by implementing IoT (Internet of Things) that can control water acidity (pH): 6.5-8.5, dissolved oxygen conditions: 5mg/L, and water temperature: 20-30’C. This tool can operate automatically so that partners can know the condition of the pond water in real-time using the web. In this case, partners can check the water condition from their mobile phones or laptops anywhere. This training is beneficial as evidenced by the increased understanding of knowledge about IoT implementation through the results of the average pre-test score on a scale of 100 of 61.20 and the average post-test score of 85.83. This data shows an increase in understanding of 24.63 points. As for attitudes and skills towards IoT which are detailed in 3 (three) categories, namely (1) attitudes towards technological innovation, the results obtained are the percentage of partners who agree and strongly agree in the pre-test score of 88 and post-test 96, (2) perception of the benefits of technology, pre-test score 86 and post-test 95, and (3) perception of ease of use, pre-test score 86 and post-test 91. This shows that the attitudes and skills of Mina Ngremboko fish farmers have had quite high support for the application of technology from the start. Thus, this training proves that the implementation of IoT as a web-based water quality controller can be implemented optimally.
