Abstract

The Limau Manis Sejahtera Farming Women's Group (KWT LMS) produces processed oyster mushroom products, namely oyster mushroom rendang, which is packaged using transparent plastic and simple labels. The packaging technique and design are still simple and not yet equipped with labels containing complete product information due to the lack of information KWT LMS members possess regarding product shelf life, technique, design and type of packaging. Increasing the knowledge possessed by KWT LMS members is necessary so that the processed mushroom products' packaging has good quality in maintaining the product's shelf life and attracting consumers' attention. The service activities include counselling regarding the importance of product packaging and labelling, providing assistance with packaging tools and practices, improving existing packaging designs, coaching in packaging aspects and further guidance regarding marketing. Extension activities and packaging practices affect increasing KWT LMS members' knowledge about the shelf life of products that have been produced and will be produced, packaging requirements, colour and packaging design requirements and techniques for choosing packaging from those who don't know (average score 1.24-1.29) to be quite knowledgeable (average score 1.24-3.43). The mushroom rendang packaging design with product information labels such as composition, expiry date, benefits, attractive visual appearance, and more suitable materials was also produced to improve the previously used packaging.

Abstract

Gambier cultivation faces limitations due to decreasing land availability; however, utilizing ex-coal mining land presents a promising alternative for sustainable expansion. Ex-coal mining land has the problem of low available nutrients because of bonded nutrients. Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Fungi (AMF) can help release bound nutrients into available nutrients, so that on ex-coal mining land, there is an increase in the amount of available nutrients that can be absorbed by plants for their growth. The study aimed to determine the effect of different types of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and their doses on the biomass of gambier seedlings planted in ex-coal mining soil. An experimental design was employed using a randomized block design with two treatments: the types of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) (Acaulospora sp., Glomus sp., and Gigaspora sp.) and the AMF dosages (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 g per seedling). All treatments were replicated three times. The parameters observed were soil chemical analysis, root colonization by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), shoot and root fresh and dry weights, net assimilation rate, and relative growth rate. The results obtained showed that AMF type and dose treatment had a significant effect on all parameters, except for the relative growth rate, and there was no interaction between the two treatments. Glomus sp. at a dose of 20 g per seedling provided the best influence in increasing gambier seedlings' biomass under the ex-coal mine soil.

Abstract

The Malacca plant is well-known for its therapeutic benefits and is commonly used to make jam. It is critical to understand the existence and diversity of Malacca plants to preserve germplasm and improve attributes through plant breeding. This study sought to investigate and identify malacca plants in North Padang Lawas Regency. The study was conducted in three subdistricts: Halongonan, Padang Bolak, and Padang Bolak Julu, from May to June 2023. This study employed a survey using purposive sampling. Malacca plant samples from the generative period (flowering and fruiting) were selected. The observation included vegetative characteristics (plant height, stem bark color, leaf size, shape, and color) as well as generative characteristics (flower and fruit shape and color). The findings revealed that there were eight accessions dispersed throughout four settlements. One accession, HT1, is designated as the Phyllanthus emblica species due to changes in leaf, flower, and fruit morphology. In contrast, the remaining seven accessions are categorized as P. indofischeri. The changes can be seen in the shape of the leaf tips, stigma branching, and fruit shape and size. Keywords: indian gooseberry, Phyllanthus emblica, Phyllanthus indofischeri
