Abstract

Background: In aging process, decreasing of musculosceletal capabilities will reduce physical activity and excercise, as well as Range Of Motion (ROM). In order to maintain the normality of ROM, joints and muscles should be moved regularly. However many elderly people are still less physically active, due to lack of knowledge, no free time for physical activity, and lack of support from the social environment. This study aimed to determine the correlation of excercise on ROM of knee in the elderly in Pedurungan District, Semarang.Design and Method: Observastional study with a cross sectional design 80 elderly men and women were divided into 2 groups: gymnastics group in the Social Rehabilitation Unit Of Pucang Gading (n=40) and unexcercises group in the Penggaron village (n=40). In both groups, the degree of ROM of knee was assessed using the Goniometer. To evaluate the value of its significance, the data were analyzed using the Mann Withney test followed by Spearmann’s rho test.Result: ROM for gymnastic(exercised group) and unexercised group were 115.50°±11.591°, 95.38°±12.780° respectively with p<0. 001. Resuts showed that doing exercise was useful for maintaining ROM of knee in elderly people. Spearmann’s rho test resulted in a strong correlation between ROM and exercise with r value of 0.652.Conclusion: exercise correlates with ROM of knee in elderly (Sains Medika, 4(1):39-45).

Abstract

A stroke will change your life physically and emotionally. This condition is caused by weakness of the limbs, numbness or paralysis, communication disorders, vision problems, and neglect of one affected side. Abstract

Back pain is a medical condition that has the potential to cause disability. The 2020 Global Burden of Disease, Injury and Risk Factors study, the number of people affected by low back pain reached 619 million globally, with a projection of reaching 843 million cases in 2050. The YLD Years Lived with Disability rate based on global age standards in 2020 reached 832 per 100,000, thus there has been an increase in the number of low back pain sufferers in each time period. Improper use of body mechanics when carrying out various activities can cause mechanical lower back pain. Proper Body Mechanics is a preventive way to maintain alignment, balance and back posture when carrying out activities. The Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) is one of the most widely used instruments to measure self-reported disability in patients with low back pain. RMDQ is an instrument to assess what percentage of clinical improvement over time is assessed based on serial analysis of scores. The aim of this PKW is to provide education about the importance of proper body mechanics for patients with low back pain in reducing pain and reducing recurrence. The method for implementing this PKW is to provide education about the importance of proper body mechanics to participants who experience back pain. Participants carry out proper body mechanics for 3 months. Before and after carrying out proper body mechanics, interviews were conducted using RMDQ. The results of this education showed that data from 22 participants showed that there had been an increase in function of 85.44% and a decrease in the level of disability from the RMDQ score. This provides evidence of the effectiveness of proper body mechanics in reducing low back pain

Abstract

A frozen shoulder is a pain that often occurs with age. The pain limits the ability to raise the arm above the head or rotate the shoulder. Risk factors for shoulder pain are reported to be related to various factors, including socio-demographic, clinical, and occupational, as well as different occupational physical exposures. The livelihoods of the population, most of whom work as farmers and grow crops in gardens, as well as the ups and downs of geographical conditions, mean that people have to walk with more energy than those who live in urban areas, so they have the potential to experience joint pain. This community service activity (PkM) aims to provide health checks and education on shoulder joint exercises to reduce pain for the people of Mulungan Hamlet. Apart from that, if necessary, patients are given free treatment according to the complaints they are experiencing based on the results of the anamnesis of the doctors involved. The PkM implementation method consists of 2 stages: (1) health education on shoulder pain and simple exercise management, and the second stage is free examination and treatment. Most who had health checks were women 44 (77.2%), and 25 (43.9%) elderly. PkM in Dusun Mulungan, Getasan, Semarang Regency, helps improve people's health with limited access to health services.
