Abstract

Cigarettes are packaged tobacco products including cigars or other forms of Nicotiana tabacum, Nicotiana rustica or their synthesis. Three main toxic agents in cigarette are Nicotine, Tar and Carbon monoxide. Their toxin activities can damage cell, tissue. Lugs and cardiovascular system are the main organ affected due to inflammatory reaction caused by its toxin. Specific proteins was produced in the liver responsed tissue damage and inflammation, one of them is C-Reactive Protein (CRP). We conducted research to measure CRP level in blood serum of active smokers and whether its correlation to long term smoking and number of cigarettes consumed. Fourty (40) men apparently health, have been smoking for more 6 years, have no symptom of cardiovascular disease and other chonic disease was participated in this reseach. CRP was analized by Quantitative Latex Aglutination Method. Descriptive data analysis shows average number of cigarettes consumed every day is 10,70 and duration of smoking is 8,67 years. Statistic analysis obtained no correlation of long term smoking and number of cigarettes consumed to CRP level (r = 0.057 and r = 0.729 respectively).

Abstract

Public health departement of Surakarta city was noticed high incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in Jebres Subdistrict. In 2022, there were 3.392 cases of DM spread out at 11 urban villages, including Mojosongo. This numbers can increase if prevention efforts are not done.   Unfortunately, no data about its prevalence based on age. Field survey showed lots of eldery around of Putri Cempo garbage dump at Mojosongo urban village. Eldery with DM should maintain their blood glucose level to prevent complication. Education and blood level examination regularly are necessary to avoid DM complication. Therefore, we carried out a community service activities for eldery with DM at 39 hamlet, Mojosongo urban village. The results obtained from 25 eldery with DM that most of the participants (84%) has controlled glucose level (<200 mg/dL). It was supported by their behaviour including taking medication regullary, physical activities, and dietary arrangements. Eldery with DM were very enthusiastic about participating in the activity of conducting free blood level checks and posyandu cadres were very active during the activity so that the activities ran smoothly. Education showed an increase in the knowledge of participants about methods to maintain blood glucose level in order to avoid complication. Its proven by increase in questionnaire mean score from 79,3 to 86,6 (8,43%) after got the education.

Abstract

Farmers are susceptible to dermatophyte infection because of their daily contact with the soil which is the habitat of mold. Onychomycosis (tinea unguium) is a disease of the nails and toenails caused by dermatophytes. Although it does not cause death, this disease can reduce the productivity of sufferers. Personal hygiene, the use of personal protective equipment and the long time of being a farmer, are closely related to the incidence of Onychomycosis. This study aims to determine the species of mold that causes onychomycosis. This type of research is descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The respondents of the study amounted to 24 rice farmers in Mayang Village, Gatak District, Sukoharjo Regency. Data in this study were obtained from interviews, observations and nail examinations. Onychomycosis is seen based on changes in structure and color in the fingernails and toenails. The infected nail is removed and examined microscopically. The specimen was then cultured on Saboraoud Dextrose Agar (SDA) media. Growing colonies are identified macroscopically by looking at the morphology and characteristics of the colony and examined microscopically by staining Lactophenol Cotton Blue (LCBP). The results of the study found two types of dermatophyte and non-dermatophyte fungi. Onychomycosis infection is dominated by dermatophyte fungi with a prevalence of 63% (15/24), while the rate of non-dermatophyte fungal infection is 37% (9/24). Dermatophyte species that infected Trichopyton rubrum (33%) and Trichopyton mentagophytes (29%). While non-dermatophyte fungi found are Aspergilus fumigatus (17%) and Aspergilus niger (21%).

Abstract

Lead (Pb) can enter the blood through inhalation. Traffic management volunteers (supeltas) has high risk of Pb exposure because they are often exposed to vehicle smoke containing Pb. In addition to occupational risks, high blood Pb levels can be affected by age, duration of exposure and smoking habits. This study aims to determine the level of lead in the blood of supeltas based on age, working period and smoking habits. It was descriptive analytical research with a cross sectional design. Sixteen men were involved in this research. Blood was drawn from their vein and added with EDTA anticoagulant. Pb levels in the blood were analyzed by the Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (FAAS). The Spearman test was used to determine the strength of correlation of age, length of work and smoking habits on Pb levels. The average Pb level in the blood of the supeltas was 117.45 ?g/dL. The lowest level of Pb was found in the P10 and P5 samples, which was 3,7 ?g/dL, while the highest level in P16 was 668,7 ?g/dL. About 75% (12/16) of supeltas had high Pb blood levels. The results of Spearman's analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between blood lead levels and age (p-value 0,507>0,05), working age (p-value 0.976>0,05) and smoking habits (p-value 0,543>0,05).

Abstract

Tonsillitis can be caused by bacteria and virus. The bacteria that most commonly causes tonsillitis is Streptococcus β hemolytic. Diagnose of tonsillitis is very important to ensure the cause in order to conduct appropriate treatments, so avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics. Diagnostic test that can be applied to determine the causes of tonsillitis are throat swab culture method and RADT. The purpose of this study was to investigate the presence of Streptococcus β hemolyticus as the cause of tonsillitis using throat swab culture method and RADT This study was observational analytic with cross sectional approach. Patients who met inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria then tested using throat swab culture and RADT. Data obtained in this research was processed with statistical analysis techniques. Data did not distributed normally using nonparametric test, i.e. Mann-Whitney test. In this research obtained 30 samples tonsillitis patient, which tested by culture and RADT methods. Results between culture and RADT compared. Result from culture method obtained 11 samples of patient was positive Streptococcus β hemolyticus and 16 samples of patient was positive Streptococcus β hemolyticus of RADT method. Statistical analysis showed that there was significant differences between the examination result of throat swab method and RADT.
