Abstract

Beauty does not always represent a woman's intelligence and skills, but in many studies beauty has become a serious issue that hinders women's progress in the public sphere. Naomi Wolf's study shows how women's struggles for beauty consume a lot of time and energy of working women, making it difficult to compete with men. In many fields of work, women are placed in fields that are expected to maximize appearance to achieve product sales targets. This study analyzes how a well-known HP shop in Samarinda builds a performance discipline system for Sales Promotion Girl (SPG)G so that they can always look perfect to persuade more buyers. The analysis was carried out using the perspective of 'the Discipline Body' by Michel Foucault. This study found that the shop created a selection mechanism, standardization, position control, and periodic reprimands to ensure that SPGs always look perfect based on beauty based on global beauty norms. This disciplinary system results in continuous compliance at the SPG level, even though the supervision is discontinuous

Abstract

Kerta Buana Village, became the location for transmigrants from Bali, Lombok (NTB) and a few local transmigrants in 1980. This village later grew to become part of the main rice granary area of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, as well as being known as the Bali Village of East Kalimantan. Kerta Buana is also known as the Pancasila Village, because of the harmony of the villagers with the background of 2 different dominant religions, Balinese transmigrants are Hindu and Lombok Muslim transmigrants. However, at present Kerta Buana Village has suffered severe damage to life, has changed its face into a village surrounded by coal mines, surrounded by 14 mining pits, agricultural productivity is low and a class of farmers without rice fields has emerged. This article analyzes how a transmigrant village that was once known as part of the district's food barn has now turned into a village surrounded by mining. Data was collected by in-depth observation, in-depth interviews with 16 key informants from each transmigrant group and repeated focus group interviews. Antonio Gramsci's concept of hegemony is used to explain how company power builds historical blocks, hegemony villagers with extractive economic ideology so that villagers agree to massive coal exploration around the village. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study aims to identify the pattern of changes in the mode of production of people who work as farmers and fishermen in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, especially Muara Badak District after the entry of the oil and gas industry in the region, and analyze how intellectual relations are in regulating the behavior of oil and gas workers along with the social, economic and political impacts. raised. This type of qualitative research uses the Grounded Theory approach. The results of this study indicate that changes in the way people produce from agriculture, plantations, and traditional fisheries in Muara Badak District have been accompanied by a mechanism for releasing social ties to land and sea through intermediary policies that are pro to the formation of industrial commodities for market interests and result in a decline in the domestic industry due to dependence. in the oil and gas industry. This dependence also gave birth to an intellectual layer and a working class that served the interests of the plantation, aquaculture and oil and gas-based industries. The process of its journey was accompanied by the emergence of various kinds of class conflicts, which gave rise to types of organic intellectuals who tried to fight back against the exploitation that occurred.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study describes the practice of social life in the field of music in the city of Bontang, based on a sociological perspective using the generative formulation of the theory of Pierre Bourdieu (Habitus x Modal) + Ranah = Practice. This shows that the existence of the Bontang Reggae Community has produced several groups consisting of Reggae Grill, Slow Reggae, and Reggae Vibe groups as actors who practice in the realm of reggae music. This group was formed because of the different knowledge and understanding in the field of reggae music as a realm of space for social life, which then produced various habitus according to the realm of music in each group. Also, the existence of each group has been supported by the existence of a classification of capital which according to Bourdieu consists of four fundamental capitals including material capital, social capital, cultural capital, and symbolic capital. The three groups produce a practice resulting from dialectical relations through habitus-modal interactions in different and prominent domains of reggae music. The Reggae Grill group produces practices that come from symbolic capital, and circular habitus or the use of Cannabis, then the Slow Reggae group produces modern music practices that come from material capital and cultural capital, and the Reggae Vibe group produces solidarity practices that come from cultural capital and capital. symbolic, as well as group habitus.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Jihad has been an integral part of Islamic discourse from its early days until today. This research was conducted to determine variations in the meaning of jihad that developed in Mulawarman University students. I use Paul Ricoeur's theory of Social Hermeneutics to explain how the process of interpreting meaning from a text. Ricoeur views that text has a life of its own regardless of the author's intention or intent (text autonomy). In interpreting the text, Ricoeur also argues that understanding and explanation are not two contradictory methods of interpreting the text. The workings of Paul Ricoeur's social hermeneutics include three factors, namely the world of text, the world of presenters, and the world of readers, whereas in this paper there are only two factors, namely the world of text and the world of readers. Jihad in al-Qur'an is repeated 41 times in 23 verses and by Ibn Al-Qayyim it is divided into four meanings, namely jihad against lust, jihad against Satan, jihad against infidels, and hypocrites, and jihad against injustice and wickedness. Meanwhile, readers only divide jihad into two meanings, namely jihad against lust and war jihad. In the process of interpreting, readers are greatly influenced by the trajectories of life that they have been through. This can be seen from the many meanings of jihad they express, namely war, defending, doing good, effort/strength, being serious, preaching, and enthusiasm.
