Abstract

Massive land conversion into palm oil tree plantation causes massive plantation waste (palm fronds) and the decrease of animal food in Jenggalu Village, Sukaraja, Seluma, Bengkulu. The solution for the problem is by utilizing palm fronds as silage (fermented animal food). The purpose of this community service is to improve the ability of female farmer group (Kelompok Wanita Tani/ KWT) Tanjung Aur in utilizing palm fronds as silage. The method applied is theory and practice on how to create silage, preparing the procedure to create silage along with the main ingredients, and then holding the workshop on processing food fermentation from palm fronds using EM-4 activator. To maintain the continuity of the program, besides choosing the person in charge of the equipment, a supervision was also done in the form of monitoring and evaluation. After the fermentation process is completely applied for the livestock, the obtained results indicate that cows really like the food, this can be seen from the consumption increase. From the observation, the animal food and its technology are categorized as ‘useful’ and ‘very useful’ based on KWT members’ understanding. From the activity, it can be concluded that the KWT members’ ability towards the technology of utilizing palm fronds as silage is improved and it will be continuously applied.

Abstract

Calpastatin (CAST) gene is one of the genes that play a role in the process of tenderization of meat. CAST gene serves as an inhibitor of meat tenderness. The purpose of this study was to identify Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP) in the CAST gene of kampong chickens. A total of 61 kampong chickens used were used in the study including strain cobb, F1 of strain cobb-kampong, merawang, sentul, nunukan, and pelung, respectively. The method used is extracted DNA from blood samples, then amplified by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and then genotyping by DNA sequencing. The results showed that SNP was identified at position g.42988G> T in the intron 11 CAST gene of merawang chicken with genotype GG and GT. SNP was not identified in kampong chicken, strain cobb, F1 of strain cobb-kampong, sentul, nunukan, and pelung chicken, respectively. In conclusion, the intron 11 CAST gene region with 482 of product length of merawang chicken is polymorphic, whereas the other chicken species is monomorphic. ABSTRAK Gen Calpastatin (CAST) merupakan salah satu gen yang berperan dalam proses keempukan pada daging. Gen CAST berfungsi sebagai inhibitor (penghambat) keempukan daging. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP) gen CAST pada ayam kampung. Jumlah ayam yang digunakan 61 ekor ayam kampung, ayam strain cobb, F1 ayam strain cobb-kampung, ayam merawang, ayam sentul, ayam nunukan, dan ayam pelung. Metode yang dilakukan adalah ekstrasi DNA dari sampel darah, kemudian dilakukan amplifikasi menggunakan mesin Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) dan selanjutnya dilakukan genotiping melalui DNA sequencing. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gen CAST intron 11 pada ayam pengamatan ditemukan SNP posisi g.42988G>T pada ayam merawang dengan genotip GG dan GT, sedangkan pada ayam kampung, ayam strain cobb, F1 ayam kampung dengan strain cobb, ayam sentul, ayam nunukan, ayam merawang dan ayam pelung tidak ditemukan SNP. Simpulan dari penelitian ini memperlihatkan gen CAST daerah intron 11 dengan panjang produk 482 pada ayam merawang bersifat polimorfik, sedangkan jenis ayam yang lain bersifat monomorfik.

Abstract

Abstract Nowadays, breeding captivity of white-rumped shama (Copsychus malabaricus) becomes a popular business among bird lovers in Bengkulu. It has been directed to create an independent livestock business. This captivity business aims to increase household income and gain profits. Captivity breeding has developed into a promising  and potential business. This study aimed to analyze the profits of white-rumped shama breeding captivity business in Bengkulu city. The research was purposively conducted in Bengkulu City. A snowball sampling method was used to determine respondents. Total of 19 respondents were interviewed based on  questionairres to determine the characteristics of respondents, total cost, total revenue and R/C ratio. The results showed that the majority of white-rumped shama breeders in Bengkulu city were male (95%) and classified into a productive age group. The average total revenue was Rp 150,744,354/year per respondent. The average  of R/C ratio was 2.47, which means that white-rumped shama breeding captivity business in Bengkulu is feasible to be developed. Abstract

Lahan pekarangan merupakan sebidang tanah yang berada di sekitar rumah yang dapat diusahakan untuk meningkatkan kemandirian pangan melalui pemenuhan kebutuhan sehari-hari dengan memanfaatkan sumberdaya yang ada berbasis organik. Salah satu kelurahan yang dapat ditingkatkan pemanfaatan lahan pekarangannya adalah Kelurahan Beringin Raya. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan lahan pekarangan untuk mewujudkan kemandirian pangan di Kelurahan Beringin Raya. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan selama 4 (empat) bulan dari bulan Juni sampai September 2020 di Kelurahan Beringin Raya, Kecamatan Muara Bangkahulu, Kota Bengkulu. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam PPM Pembinaan melalui pendekatan PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) yang memungkinkan masyarakat di Kelurahan Beringin Raya melalui RT.4 dapat saling berbagi, meningkatkan dan menganalisis pengetahuan tentang pemanfaatan lahan pekarangan. Metode yang diterapkan berupa sosialisasi, penyuluhan, dan praktek langsung di lapangan. Dari kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dilakukan diperoleh hasil bahwa (1) Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan memberikan pemahaman tentang pentingnya pemanfaatan lahan pekarangan untuk menunjang kemandirian pangan (2) Meningkatkan kemampuan dari masyarakat dalam mengelola dan mengembangkan lahan pekarangan agar lebih berdaya guna.

Abstract

The aim of study is to determine the ability of kitolod leaves given through drinking water as a substitute for antibiotics in terms of growth performance, weight, and length of the small intestine of broiler. The method used is a Complete Random Design with 5 treatments of 4 tests and each test consists of 10 chickens. Details of the treatment: TO = 0% kitolod leaf extract; T1 = tetracycline antibiotics; T2 = 0.5% kitolod leaf extract; Q3: 3.0% kitolod leaf extract, and T4 = 4.5% kitolod leaf extract. The variables observed in this study are the Performance of broiler chickens (feed consumption, weight gain, and feed conversion) and the weight and length of the small intestine of broiler chickens. The results showed that there was no noticeable effect (P>0,05) of giving kitolod leaf extract on the growth performance, weight, and length of the gastrointestinal tract of broiler chickens. Pemberian extract of kitolod leaves up to 4.5% through drinking water has not able to increase the growth performance, weight, and length of the small intestine of broiler.   Key words: Small Intestine, Weight Gain, Feed Consumption, Feed Conversion.   ABSTRAK Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahuai kemampuan ekstrak daun kitolod yang diberikan melalui air minum sebagai pengganti antibiotik ditinjau dari peforma pertumbuhan, bobot dan panjang usus halus ayam broiler. Metode yang dipakai yaitu Rancangan Acak Lengkap, 5 perlakuan, 4 ulangan (10 ekor ayam pada tiap ulangan). Rincian dari perlakuan: TO = 0% ekstrak daun kitolod; T1 = antibiotik tetracyclin; T2 = 1,5% ekstrak daun kitolod; T3: 3,0% ekstrak daun kitolod; dan T4 = 4,5% ekstrak daun kitolod. Variabel yang diamati pada penelitian ialah: Performa ayam broiler (konsumsi pakan, PBB, dan FCR) dan bobot serta panjang usus halus ayam broiler. Hasil Tidak ada pengaruh yang nyata (P>0,05) pemberian ekstrak daun kitolod terhadap kinerja pertumbuhan, bobot dan panjang saluran pencernaan ayam broiler. Pemberian ekstrak daun kitolod sampai 4,5% melalui air minum belum mampu meningkatkan kinerja pertumbuhan, bobot dan panjang usus halus broiler.   Kata kunci: Usus Halus, Konsumsi Pakan, PBB, FCR

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi penggunaan ekstrak daun senduduk sebagai antioksidan sosis daging sapi selama penyimpanan suhu ruang. Sebanyak 40 g bubuk daun senduduk dimaserasi dalam air destilata (1:4; b/v) selama 24 jam pada suhu kamar, disaring, kemudian di-freeze dry. Lima perlakuan diaplikasikan, yaitu kontrol yang mengandung daging sapi, minyak nabati, susu skim bubuk, tepung tapioka, garam, fosfat, es, dan bumbu-bumbu (P1); formula kontrol ditambah dengan butylated hydroxytoluene 0,01% (P2), formula kontrol ditambah ekstrak daun senduduk 0,5% (P3), formula kontrol ditambah ekstrak daun senduduk 0,75% (P4), dan formula kontrol ditambah ekstrak daun senduduk 1% (P5). Variabel yang diamati adalah susut masak, daya mengikat air, aktivitas antioksidan, nilai Tio barbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan ekstrak daun senduduk menurunkan susut masak sosis dan tanpa memengaruhi karakteristik daya mengikat air. Penambahan ekstrak daun senduduk mampu meningkatkan daya hambat terhadap radikal bebas dan kapasitas antioksidan serta menekan nilai TBARS. Selama penyimpanan suhu pada ruang hingga 10 jam, aktivitas antioksidan mengalami penurunan tetapi tidak memengaruhi nilai TBARS. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah penggunaan ekstrak daun senduduk hingga 1% dari berat daging dapat menekan oksidasi yang setara dengan butylated hydroxytoluene 0,01% pada sosis selama penyimpanan suhu ruang 10 jam.(Reducing oxidation in beef sausage during room temperature storage by adding senduduk (Melastoma malabathricum L.) leaf extract)ABSTRAK. This study aimed to evaluate the use of senduduk leaf extracts as an antioxidant beef sausage during room temperature storage. A-40 g powder was macerated with distilled water (1:4; w/v) for 24 h at room temperature, filtered, and then was freeze-dried. Five treatments were employed including control containing beef, vegetable oil, skimmed milk powder, tapioca, salt, phosphate, ice, and seasons (P1); control added butylated hydroxytoluene 0.01% (P2); senduduk leaf extract 0.5% (P3); senduduk leaf extract 0.75% (P4); and senduduk leaf extract 1% (P5). Variables observed were cooking loss, water holding capacity, antioxidant activity, and Tio barbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). The results showed the addition of senduduk leaf extract could decrease the cooking loss without any effect on the water-holding capacity of the sausages. The addition of senduduk leaf extract increase the scavenging activity and antioxidant capacity and reduced TBARS value of the sausages. During storage, the antioxidant activity of the sausages diminished with no affect the TBARS value. It could be concluded that the addition of senduduk leaf extract 1% could retard lipids oxidation of the sausage and the capability was equal to butylated hydroxytoluene 0.01 during 10 hours of storage.

Abstract

Ayam ketarras merupakan ayam persilangan antara ayam arab dan ayam ras petelur dengan persentase darah 75% ayam arab dan 25% ayam ras petelur. Saat ini ayam ketarras keturunannya sudah pada generasi kedua (G2). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat performa produksi telur pada ayam ketarras dengan bobot badan yang berbeda. Penelitian ini menggunakan 30 ekor ayam betina Ketarras dengan jenis kelamin betina. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Commercial Zone and Animal Laboratory (CZAL) Jurusan Peternakan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Bengkulu. Kandang yang digunakan adalah kandang batteray yang merupakan kandang individu. Pada saat pemeliharan pemberikan pakan dengan komponen konsentrat khusus ayam petelur, dedak dan jagung giling. Paramater yang diambil ketika penelitian adalah produksi telur, berat telur dan  persentase produksi. Rancangan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap. Data yang diperoleh disajikan berdasarkan rataan dan standar deviasi. Jumlah telur yang dihasilkan dari 30 ekor selama 3 bulan pengamatan sebesar 1.728 butir dengan rataan produksi telur perbulan per ekor adalah 19 butir/ekor/bulan. Secara keseluruhan berat telur yang diperoleh sebesar 48.22 gram. Sementara persentase produksi telur secara keseluruhan yang diperoleh mencapai 63.30 %. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ayam Ketarras generasi ke-2 umur 11-13 bulan memiliki performa produksi, persentase produksi dan berat telur yang masih bervariasi.

Abstract

Puyuh merupakan jenis unggas dan masyarakat sudah lama membudidayakan untuk memproduksi telur dan daging. Pemeliharaan bertujuan untuk mata pencaharian dan pendapatan rumah tangga. Pandemi COVID-19 telah menyebabkan terjadinya dampak negatif terhadap usaha peternakan, terutama dalam memperoleh input produksi dan penjualan produk ternak. Menurunnya pendapatan masyarakat menyebabkan menurunnya pembelian produk peternakan. Penelitian ini menganalisis ekonomi dan keberlanjutan peternakan puyuh saat pandemi dan pasca pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian dilakukan di Kecamatan Muarabangkahulu Kota Bengkulu. Lima peternak digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yang dipilih dengan menggunakan metode snowball sampling. Data dikumpulkan pada penelitian ini adalah produksi telur, biaya produksi, penerimaan, pendapatan, R/C (Revenue/Cost), dan BEP (Break Even Point). Dari penelitian diperoleh hasil bahwa jumlah puyuh yang dipelihara adalah 2200/ekor/peternak, produksi telur adalah 71,14%, konsumsi pakan adalah 26,96 kg/ekor/hari, dan konversi pakan adalah 3,41. Pendapatan peternak adalah Rp 4.777.021,70/peternak/bulan, dengan nilai R/C 1,51; BEP unit 31.314 butir telur, dan BEP harga Rp 200,09/butir. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa usaha ternak puyuh masih untung dan  layak dilanjutkan pada saat pandemi dan pasca pandemi COVID-19. Kata kunci: Ekonomi, Keberlanjutan, Puyuh, Pandemi Covid-19
