Abstract

Background: Anemia remains a public health problem among adolescent girls, primarily due to low iron intake and non-compliance with iron supplementation (IBP). Anemia in adolescent girls can impact learning concentration, academic achievement, and fitness, and is at risk of continuing into pregnancy. One important factor influencing anemia prevention behavior is knowledge. The prevalence of iron supplementation among adolescent girls in South Sulawesi in 2023 was 65.5% and in Jeneponto Regency it was 73.0%, still below the national target of 75.0%. Therefore, innovative, engaging, and easily understood educational media are needed for adolescents, one of which is through board-based educational games. Interactive approaches are considered capable of increasing engagement, motivation, and understanding of adolescent girls' health. Methods: This study employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 80 adolescent girls at SMPN 1 Tamalatea, Jeneponto Regency, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire measuring knowledge of anemia and iron supplementation, which had been tested for validity and reliability. The intervention was delivered through health education using the “Cegah Anemia” boardgame, implemented in group-based learning sessions. Results: The findings showed that prior to the intervention, most respondents had a moderate (61.3%) or poor (37.5%) level of knowledge. After the intervention, knowledge levels increased, with the majority of respondents categorized as having good knowledge (57.5%). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated a statistically significant improvement in knowledge following the intervention. Conclusion: Health education using the “Cegah Anemia” boardgame is effective in improving adolescent girls’ knowledge regarding anemia and iron supplementation at SMPN 1 Tamalatea

Abstract

Every child has the right to live, grow, develop, and be protected. To that end, comprehensive, integrated, and sustainable child health efforts must be carried out from the fetal stage to the age of 18 to ensure the survival and quality of life of children through a reduction in mortality rates, improved nutrition, and the fulfillment of minimum service standards for infants. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the implementation of Continuum of Care (COC) and mothers' ability to care for infants, focusing on health aspects and caregiving skills, to improve infant care quality and reduce complications. The method used is quantitative with an observational analytical approach and a case-control design. The study sample consisted of 76 mothers, with 38 mothers receiving COC services and 38 mothers not receiving such services. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and Odds Ratio (OR) calculations. The results showed that mothers who received COC services had better infant care skills compared to those who did not. Among the 38 mothers who received COC, 89.4% were able to care for their infants well, while only 34.2% of mothers who did not receive COC were able to care for their infants. The p-value of 0.000 indicates that this difference is statistically significant. The Odds Ratio shows that mothers who did not receive COC services were 16 times more likely to be unable to care for their infants compared to those who received COC (OR = 16.346). This study concludes that the implementation of the COC program significantly improves mothers' ability to care for their babies WITH A p-VALUE OF 0.000. Therefore, it is recommended that the COC program be widely implemented to improve the quality of infant care and the health of mothers and children. Abstract

Abstract

This article reports an analysis of the relationship between the level of cadre empowerment and pregnant women’s compliance with the implementation of the Birth Planning and Complication Prevention Program (P4K). The study employed a cross-sectional survey design conducted in Penfui Timur Village, Kupang Regency, involving 30 community health cadres. Cadre empowerment was assessed through dimensions of knowledge, skills, support, and participation, while pregnant women’s compliance served as the dependent variable. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. The results showed a significant association between cadre empowerment and pregnant women’s compliance with P4K implementation (p = 0.012). Cadres with a high level of empowerment were more effective in assisting compliant pregnant women compared to those with lower levels of empowerment. Participation in P4K training also had a significant effect on improving pregnant women’s compliance (p = 0.021). These findings indicate that cadre empowerment and training are key factors in enhancing pregnant women’s compliance with the P4K program. Strengthening cadre capacity through continuous training and institutional support is therefore necessary to optimize program implementation at the community level.

Abstract

Background: Chronic energy deficiency (CED) affects 35–75% of pregnant women globally, with the highest prevalence occurring in the third trimester of pregnancy. National prevalence in Indonesia stands at 16.9%, with 12.1% in Makassar City and 19.38% at Tamalate Community Health Center. Multiple factors—including poverty, prenatal nutrition deficiency, anemia, and limited knowledge—accumulate in behaviors that negatively impact child stunting outcomes. Methods: A quantitative observational analytical study using a case-control design was conducted on 140 subjects at Puskesmas Tamalate, Makassar, comprising 70 CED cases and 70 non-CED controls selected by simple random sampling. Economic status was assessed by monthly family income level, and anemia status was determined by hemoglobin (Hb) measurement. Data were processed and analyzed using the Odds Ratio (OR) statistical test with SPSS version 24. Results: Economic status was significantly associated with CED in pregnant women (p=0.000 < α=0.05), with a predicted OR of 5.54 (95% CI: 2.67–11.47). Anemia status was also significantly associated with CED (p=0.000 < α=0.05), with a predicted OR of 9.7 (95% CI: 3.5–27.2). Conclusion: Low family income and anemia are significant risk factors for CED in pregnant women. Adequate nutritional education utilizing affordable food sources and Hb screening before and during pregnancy are strongly recommended to reduce CED incidence.
