Abstract

This study aims to examine the carrying capacity of the area as well as visitor perceptions of marine tourism activities at Jemeluk Beach, Karangasem, Bali, as a basis for sustainable tourism management. Data collection was carried out from late September to late October 2023 using quantitative and qualitative descriptive approaches, with primary data obtained through observations, interviews, and questionnaires, and secondary data gathered from literature and related institutions. The carrying capacity analysis was conducted by considering the extent of the usable area and the duration of visitor activities, while visitor perceptions were evaluated using the four main components of tourism—attraction, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services (4A)—measured with the Likert Scale. The results showed that beach recreation has a carrying capacity of 44 people/day, snorkeling 385 people/day, and diving 181 people/day, with a total carrying capacity of 610 people/day. Overall, visitors’ perceptions of attractions were classified as good, particularly for snorkeling and diving, which were appreciated due to the diversity of coral reefs and clear water conditions. Accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services were assessed as adequate, although several aspects such as road conditions, availability of worship facilities, and information centers still require improvement. These findings are expected to serve as valuable input for tourism managers and local government in enhancing service quality and ensuring sustainable utilization of natural resources at Jemeluk Beach.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the reproductive characteristics of the Cyprinidae and Poeciliidae families in Lake Batur, including gonad maturity stage, gonadosomatic index, and sex ratio. Sampling was carried out from November to December 2021. This study uses descriptive and quantitative methods, with purposive sampling at three station points. The fishing gear used is a gill net with sizes of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 inches. Determination of the gonad maturity stage of the gonads is determined morphologically, which includes observations on the color, shape, and size of the gonads. The gonad maturity stage III and IV was analyzed with the gonadosomatic index and sex ratio. The fish samples total 147 individuals: 54 from the Cyprinidae family and 93 from the Poeciliidae family. Cyprinidae family fish samples are Barbodes binotatus and Barbonimus gonionotus. Poeciliidae family fish samples are Xiphophorus hellerii and Poecilia reticulata. gonad maturity stage of the cyprinidae family in Barbodes binotatus obtained I -IV and Barbonimus gonionotus fish obtained all stages I-V, while the poeciliidae family Xiphoporus hellerii at all stages IV and Poecilia reticulata only found I-IV, the average of gonadosomatic index of female cyprinidae and poeciliidae is higher than males, and spawning time occurs in November and December (rainy season). The sex ratio of the Cyprinidae family in Barbodes binotatus is unbalanced, while in the Poeciliidae family, the sex ratio of Xiphophorus hellerii is balanced.

Abstract

The red devil fish (Amphilophus citrinellus) has a rapid breeding nature; its presence is a problem and detrimental to fish farmers. This study aims to examine the reproductive aspects of the fish, which can be seen from several elements: sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad maturity index, and fecundity. The research method used is descriptive quantitative. Samples of red devil fish (Amphilophus citrinellus) were collected using purposive sampling at three sampling station locations. We conducted the sampling three times, every two weeks. Each sample collection consisted of 15 fish per station. The equipment used was a gill net with a mesh size of 2.5 inches, a net length of 100 m, and a net height of 1 m. We then place the caught fish into a coolbox and observe them. The research results indicate an imbalance in the sex ratio of the red devil fish population in Lake Batur. The male red devil fish population is larger than the female population. Based on the gonad maturity level (TKG), male red devil fish are most commonly found at TKG III and II, each having 20 individuals, while females are dominated by TKG IV, which has 35 individuals. The average gonad maturity index (IKG) for male fish is 0.25–0.65, while for females, it is 1.58–2.32. The average fecundity of females ranges from 582 to 790 eggs.

Abstract

Bedetan Perancak is an innovative sardine processing product (cat sardine and protolan types) made by the Bedetan Perancak Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Jembrana Regency. It is dried using an eco-friendly Solar Dryer Dome (SDD) technology with a capacity of 200 kg per 3 days. This study compares the nutritional content of two Bedetan variants—unseasoned and seasoned—both dried using SDD. The analysis covers moisture, ash, protein, fat, carbohydrates (by difference), and estimated energy (kcal). Results indicate that moisture and ash are higher in the seasoned variant at 11.38% and 7.23%, respectively. Protein content is high in both variants: 62.89% (unseasoned) and 63.81% (seasoned). Fat content is similar, ranging between 15.03% and 15.13%. Carbohydrates are higher in the unseasoned variant (5.89%) than in the seasoned one (2.54%). Energy values are 411.30 kcal (unseasoned) and 400.70 kcal (seasoned). Adding seasoning affects moisture and ash but not protein and fat significantly. Both variants meet the SNI 8273:2023 standard for dried fish moisture (max 40%; ideal 15–20%), with moisture well below ideal limits. This shows that SDD technology is environmentally friendly and enhances nutritional quality and shelf life of Bedetan.
