Abstract

Batam as a region with a strategic position, located on the international trade route, was developed to become one of the engines of economic growth in Indonesia. However, in its development, Batam faced governance problems that had an impact on the decline in its economic performance. Not only at the local level, but its influence reaches the national level. This study explains the causal relationship of Dual Governance, focusing on aspects of formation, relations between institutions and their impact on development. Using the framework of Holzinger, Kern and Kromrey (2016), this study captures the issue of institutional dualism that has occurred for years and is considered to be the cause of the decline in development in Batam. The study was conducted using qualitative research methods with a case study approach and collecting data from interviews and document analysis. There are several concluding points in this study regarding institutional dualism and its impact on economic development based on Batam’s case. They are the implementation of decentralization, the significance of the pre-existing institution, the similarity between two institution in respect of interpreting and implementing policies and the relationship between intergovernmental relations and economic development. These three factors affect the degree of intergovernmental relations which is directly proportional to economic development. The more intergovernmental relations are, the higher economic development is.

Abstract

The increase in both industrialization and tourism in Kasongan village famous with its pottery being the tourism Village since 1988, radically altered the local economy and domestic life. Based on oral history, survey, and documentary sources, this paper examine the impact of economics globalization to the diversity of culture in Kasongan. Globalization has two faces. If it can be managed properly, globalization can certainly give sufficient benefit to the country. The result of study indicated that pasedhuluran kinship systems in pottery production chain as one of social capital in socio-economic development in Kasongan, play an important role. This can be seen in terms of hiring local labor, then the pottery associated with the ordering system, and the use of the showroom to promote their pottery. Based on this note that the negative impact of globalization, especially the pottery in Kasongan indsutry can be minimized by pasedhuluran system.

Abstract

Historic Urban Landscape is a historic city management approach that is considered more comprehensive in balancing between social and economic development and cultural heritage conservation. UNESCO adopted the Recommendation on The Historic Urban Landscape on 10 November 2011 at the UNESCO General Assembly. As an approach that can be adopted by various countries, this approach recommends four main tools, namely civic engagement, knowledge and planning, regulatory system, and financial tools. This research aims to identify civic engagement tools in the management of the historic city area called Kawasan Sumbu Filosofi in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of case study research and is descriptive in nature. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and literature studies. This research reveals that civic engagement in the management of the Kawasan Sumbu Filosofi in the voice area has been granted and guaranteed through various regulations. In terms of access, the government has provided a space for discussion, but the information the government provides still predominates in this forum. Concerning the aspect of control, community control over the surrounding environment has not been built. In general, the quality of community participation must continue to be encouraged to realize sustainable urban development and preservation.

Abstract

The Borobudur area, a priority tourism destination in Indonesia, is renowned for its rich historical and cultural significance. To enhance its appeal and improve the tourist experience, the government has been developing infrastructure and tourism amenities along the Borobudur area corridor, with significant advancements observed in the Palbapang-Borobudur corridor. This study employs the Scenic Beauty Estimation (SBE) method, a quantitative approach designed to evaluate landscape visual quality through tourists' perceptions. A survey of 60 tourists was conducted along the Palbapang-Borobudur corridor to assess the impact of these developments. The findings reveal that the development of amenities and infrastructure enhances the visual quality, particularly in the first segment at the Palbapang Lion Gate, characterized by scenic views of the Menoreh mountains and well-integrated vegetation. Landscape elements such as terraced buildings, natural vegetation, and harmonious design contribute positively to visual perception. In contrast, segments 2, 3, and 4 score lower due to mismatched building types, colors, and the presence of visually disruptive billboards. This study highlights the need for integrated planning and management to balance tourism development with the preservation of cultural and natural landscapes. The use of the SBE method provides a novel framework for assessing visual quality in heritage areas, offering valuable insights for sustainable tourism planning in similar contexts.

Abstract

The adverse effects of the use of fossil energy such as global warming make people slowly decrease the use of fossil energy including in the electric power generation sector. Emissions from burning fossil fuels such as carbon dioxide are one of the components that make up and dominate the composition of greenhouse gases. It is this greenhouse gas that prevents the sun's heat from being reflected back into the atmosphere, so that it accumulates over many years which causes the temperature of the earth's surface to increase.               Slowly the use of fossil energy is stopped and replaced with new renewable energy which produces less greenhouse gases. In meeting the demand for electricity supply, Cirebon Regency is still relying on Steam Coal Power Plants to supply electricity demand. According to projection, Cirebon's total electricity demand will be 109.860,28 GWh by 2050. If Cirebon still continues to use Steam Coal Power Plants until 2050 it's estimated that it will emit 100.489.721,74 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.               Cirebon Regency has alternative energy potential from municipal solid waste (MSW) that can be utilized. Every day, every person in Cirebon Regency can produce 0,541 kg of waste. From the observations, the electrical energy that can be generated and utilized from waste until 2050 is 8.360,45 GWh, of which 2.462,34 GWh is generated from organic waste and 5.898,12 GWh is generated from combustible waste.                   The electrical energy that can be generated from city waste is sufficient for 7,61% of the electricity needs of Cirebon Regency. With an energy mix scheme between PLTU and waste-based power plants, total carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by 3,05%.

Abstract

Park as a public space is widely recognized in the global agenda to meet the targets of sustainable development goals in SDGs 3 and SDGs 11 to make cities and settlements healthy, inclusive, resilient and sustainable through the provision of Green Open Space (GOS). The commitment of Indonesian Government related to GOS is stated in the laws, the standard states that GOS in urban areas is 30% of the total area in which 12.5% is contained as a park in every settlement scale. Currently, Salatiga City has 4 parks with an average area of below 24,000 m2 and there are several residence and settlement-scale parks with an area below 250 m2. The purpose of this study is to determine park quantity against the needs, availability, and affordability. This study used a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach with a network analysist. Data collection method used questionnaire, observation and document review. The study showed (1) Based on the comparison between the existing needs and conditions of parks from 23 sub-districts, there were 9 sub-districts that had not met it 2) Based on the network analysis, the service affordability of 4 parks was only 57.53% of the urban area that had been served by parks, most of the areas in Argomulyo District had not been served. This study is a new study on park performance assessment with spatial analysis so future park development prioritizes areas that have a value gap between existing needs and conditions and have not been afforded by park service areas. The results of this study can be taken into consideration in the future development of park with a comprehensive analysis and database.
