Abstract

Rice commodities are the main food and are widely planted in Pulau Rambai Village, Kampa District, Kampar Regency. Pest attacks are the main obstacle in cultivating rice. The concept of integrated pest management (PHT) is applied to rice farmers. This management includes combining compatible pest management techniques, prioritizing natural management using natural enemies. This activity aims to provide counselling, assistance and guidance to rice farmers to implement PHT to increase the quantity and quality of rice production. The intended target was rice farmers in Pulau Rambai Village. The method of implementation carried out is counselling, mentoring and assisting. Counselling is in the form of presentation on farmers' paddy farms introducing the concept of PHT, management of plant cultivation that is not suitable for rice pest development, the introduction of natural enemies of pests, and types of environmentally friendly control such as vegetable pesticides and biological agents. Guidance and mentoring were also given to farmers in monitoring pests, natural enemies, and rice ecosystems. The level of achievement of the program targets was monitored from the questionnaire filled out by farmers before counselling and at the end of the mentoring activities program. From the questionnaire, there was a change in the views and knowledge of farmers in the concept of pest control. The program's achievement is also seen from the change in cultivation methods such as the legowo 4x1 system with three seeds per clump and pest control using biological pesticides according to the guidance.

Abstract

Cassava (Manihot utilissima) is the third food source in Indonesia. Cassava commodity has economic value and is widely planted in the Technical Implementation Unit of the Agricultural Extension Agency (UPTBPP) Kulim, Pekanbaru City. This service aims to provide knowledge and skills to cassava farmers in the Technical Implementation Unit of the Kulim Agricultural Extension Agency (UPTBPP) of Pekanbaru Municipality about the types of pests and diseases that attack, symptoms of attacks, and their control techniques. The target of service is mainly cassava farmers in the Technical Implementation Unit of the Agricultural Extension Agency (UPTBPP) Kulim Pekanbaru Municipality so that farmers' incomes become better and more prosperous. The service method used the method of counseling and demonstration. The extension method uses LCD and infocus, pictures of pests, life cycles, damage are presented, along with explanations of control techniques. The demonstration method includes the practice of control techniques consisting of first introducing natural enemies in the form of videos, making glumon traps and making forest betel leaf and soursop vegetable pesticides. The measuring instrument for achieving the goals of service was the understanding and knowledge of farmers about pests and diseases of cassava plants, controlling cassava pests and changing farmers' views on pest control no longer prioritizing the use of synthetic pesticides and the ability of farmers to recognize the types of natural enemies of pests. Achievement is measured by distributing questionnaires to determine changes and increase in farmer knowledge. The results of the service program in the form of counseling and demonstrations were very well responded by cassava farmers. Participants paid close attention, asked many questions. The results of the questionnaire assessment of farmers showed an increase in farmers' understanding of controlling pests and diseases of cassava plants after service activities. Thus this service will provide great benefits to cassava farmers in controlling pests and diseases in cassava cultivation.

Abstract

Trichoderma sp. is a saprophytic fungus found in various environments, one of which is in the rhizosphere of oil palm plants which can be used to control Ganoderma and increase the resistance of oil palm plants from stem rot disease. This study aimed to characterize the morphology of Trichoderma spp. origin of peat land in oil palm plantations in Kampar Regency and screening the potential in controlling Ganoderma sp. Trichoderma spp. from oil palm rhizosphere was collected from the smallholder oil palm plantations in Deli Makmur Village, Kampar, Indonesia. This research was conducted by several observations, such as the hypovirulence test; identification of the morphology of Trichoderma spp. fungus; growth and diameter test of Trichoderma spp. fungus; test of the inhibitory ability of Trichoderma spp. fungus against Ganoderma sp. LPTUNRI-Gan002 isolate; test for hyperparasitism of the fungus Trichoderma spp., which has high antagonistic power against Ganoderma sp. isolate. Six Trichoderma spp. isolates had morphological characteristics similar to two species, i.e., Trichoderma harzianum (LPTUNRI-Trc001, Trc004, Trc005, and Trc006 isolates) and Trichoderma asperellum (LPTUNRI-Trc002 and Trc003). LPTUNRI-Trc003 had the highest diameter (90 mm), growth rate (32.66 mm/day), and the highest ability to suppress Ganoderma sp. LPTUNRI-Gan002 (91.03%) compared to the other five isolates.

Abstract

Gold snail (Pomacea canaliculata L.) is the main pest of rice plants in Empat Balai Village, Kuok District, Kampar Regency. Farmers in Empat Balai Village experience gold snail infestation every year, which has an impact on production. The purpose of community service activities is to conduct community service by counseling and controlling carp pests in rice fields by utilizing local wisdom in Empat Balai Village. The methods in this service are survey, consolidation, counseling and field practice. The counseling was held at Mushallah Miftahul Jannah in Pulau Empat Hamlet, while the field practice was at the farmer’s house and rice fields in Empat Balai Village. The material provided was about bioecology and how to control the carp snail pest. It was emphasized that the recommended control carp pests are the management of carp pests in the egg phase, because one group of eggs has 500 eggs and control is easier in the egg phase. Control in the egg phase includes making drainage or small ditches, installing bamboo stakes so that the snails lay their eggs there, and collecting the eggs once a week. In the snail phase, involves setting up attractant plant traps (gadung tuber leaf, papaya leaf, and banana leaf), kalambuai traps (kaltrap), installing of irrigated nets, utilizing ducks, and vegetable molluscicides. In addition, preventive measure was taken, such as planting older seedlings. The farmers were very enthusiastic about this activity. As a result, farmers gained additional knowledge about gold snail pests and how to control them, improve farmers skills on gold snail pests control methods by utilizing local wisdom.
