Abstract

Myzus persicae Sulzer (Homoptera: Aphididae) is one of a major pest that attack red chili plants (Capsicum annuum L.). Farmers usually use a synthetic insecticides to controll Myzus persicae, which has many negative effects. One of the alternative controll that can be used to minimize the effect of synthetic insecticides is Piper aduncum L. which is formulated in powder. The research was conducted in Plant Pest Laboratory and Laboratory of Integrated Pest Management, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. Research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments are betel leaf powder 75 g/l of water with variation S0 (without storage), S1 (1 month storage), S2 (2 months storage), S3 (3 months storage). The results showed that the betel leaf powder without storage (S0) had better results than other treatments. This treatment has a fastest time of initial death 9.80 hours, LT50 reach in 29.20 hours and total mortality 89%.   Keywords: Capsicum annuum L., Myzus persicae Sulzer, Piper aduncum L.

Abstract

Oryctes rhinoceros is an important pest of oil palm. This study aimed to obtain the best ability of several compost organic materials containing B. bassiana for controlling O. rhinoceros larvae, to obtain the ability of B. bassiana in compost to control various instars of O. rhinoceros larvae, and to obtain the best concentration of Beauveria bassiana in compost in controlling O larvae. rhinoceros. Three stages of the research experiment were: 1) testing of several compost organic materials containing B. bassiana at 75 gl-1 concentration, using a completely randomized design (CRD), Experiment 2 were: test the ability of B. bassiana with 75 gl-1 concentration of compost at various instars of O. rhinoceros larvae. Experiment 3 were: concentration test of B. bassiana fungi in compost media against O. rhinoceros larvae, with 6 treatments 4 replications obtained 24 experimental units, while the treatments were 0 gl-1, 15 gl-1, 30 gl-1, 45 gl-1, 60 gl-1, and 75 gl-1. Compost organic material contains the fungus B. bassiana which has the best ability to control O. rhinoceros, namely OPEFB + sawdust because caused total mortality to reach 90% with conidia number 115.2 x108, initial death 67.2 hours after application, lethal time 50 206, 4 hours after application. B. bassiana fungi in OPEFB + sawdust compost can control O. rhinoceros 3 instar larvae with total mortality of up to 92.5% and control 1, 2, and 3 instars larvae of O. rhinoceros have no effect on the initial time of death and lethal time 50 on each instar. The initial time of death used was 54-75 hours and the lethal time 50 was 198-252 hours. OPEFB compost + sawdust containing the fungus B. bassiana 75 gl-1 had the best ability to control O. rhinoceros larvae with a total larvae mortality of 87% which caused early death 54 hours after application, 50 lethal times of 213 hours, and LC50 of 3.3% or the equivalent of 33 gl-1.

Abstract

Oryctes rhinoceros is one of the main pests in oil palm crops. Such pest attacks can reduce production until 69%, even causing 25% of young plants to die. Control efforts conducted by smallholders or large companies generally use synthetic insecticides. To reduce the effects of synthetic insecticides, one of the alternatives that can be used in the technique of pest control O. rhinoceros is by the used of natural insecticides. One of the plants that can be used as a natural insecticides is piper betle forest (Piper aduncum L.).This research aims to intended to find out the ability of the extract of piper betle forest in extermination larvae O. rhinoceros of oil palm crops. The research was start since March 2017 to June 2017 at the Pest Laboratory Plants and Experiment Station Technical Implementation Unit Agriculture Faculty University of Riau. Experimentally using Completely Randomized Factorial Design (RAL) with three factor and five replications were used in the research. The first factor were S1 (Flour leaf of piper bettle), second S2 (Flour fruit of piper bettle), and S3 (Flour twig of piper bettle). Each unit of the experiment uses two methods application. The first method is application of food mixing and the second is application of watering method. The result showed that flour fruit of piper bettle with the application food mixing method and application of watering method with two method can to murder up to 92% and 80% of the larvae O. rhinoceros, with an average initial time of death of 12 hours and 28 hours. Flour fruit of piper bettle can use that effective controls of the larvae O. rhinoceros on oil palm crops because it has caused the death rate of larvae O. rhinoceros exceeds 80%.

Abstract

Nettle Caterpillar Setora nitens is a major pest on oil palm. Chemical control to nettle caterpillar Setora nitens has some negative impacts, such as pest resistance, pest resurgence, and environmental pollution. The use of botanical insecticides, such as Piper aduncum L. is one of solutions to decrease the use of synthetic chemical insecticides. The purpose of this research is to obtain the concentration of Piper aduncum L. fruit flour extract which is able and exact to control nettle caterpillar Setora nitens pest at the oil palm plant. This research was conducted in field using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 repetitions. The treatment concentrations of Piper aduncum L. fruit flour extract are 0 g/l of water, 25 g/l of water, 50 g/l of water, 75 g/l of water, and 100 g/l of water. The Piper aduncum L. fruit flour extract concentration 100 g/l of water is able to control nettle caterpillar Setora nitens pest with total mortality of 85%. The exact concentration needed to kill 95% nettle caterpillar Setora nitens pest is 32,1% or equivalent to 321 g/l of water. However, it is not yet effective because the effective and exact concentration to kill 95% of insect test more than 10% or equivalent to 100 g/l of water. Abstract

Rice is an important crop in Indonesia, because it contains carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, and trace elements. Pomacea sp. is a major pest of rice crops in Indonesia. Use of plant molluscicides like Tinospora crispa L. is an alternative to reduce the use of synthetic chemical pesticides. This study aimed to obtain the concentration of Tinospora crispa L. capable of controlling the Pomacea sp. in riceplant. This research was conducted at  plant pest laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau and in the experiments farm of the  Faculty of Agriculture University of Riau.This research using a completely randomized design (CRD), which consist of 5 treatments and 4 replications. There are  extracts Tinospora crispa L.  0 g/l of water, 25 g/l of water, 50 g/l of  water, 75 g/l of water, 95 g/l of water. Concentration of Tinospora crispa L. 75 g/l of  water is able to control Pomacea sp. The result indicated that concentration of 75 g/l of water can cause initial time of death is 12 hours after application,   LT50reach  in  28.25 hours and total mortality 86,99%.   Keyword: Oryza sativa L., Pomacea L., Tinospora crispa L.

Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L) is one of the horticultural commodities which have commercial prospects and quite good. This study aimed determine the effect of application the best fermented cow urine concentration on growth and yield of lettuce plants. This research was conducted at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau Campus Bina Widya Simpang Baru village Panam District of Tampan, Pekanbaru in October to December 2016. This study was conducted experimentally using RAL 5 treatments with 3 replications. The treatments were P1: POC cow urine concentration of 30%, Q2: POC cow urine concentration of 35%, P3: POC cow urine concentration of 40%, P4: POC cow urine concentration of 45% and P5: POC cow urine concentration of 50%. Data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance followed by DNMRT at 5% level. The Parameters measured were plant height, leaf number, fresh weight and plant fresh weight unfit for consumption. The results showed that administration of fermented cow urine at a concentration of 45% indicates growth and better results on all parameters of lettuce plants and the use of cow urine concentration of 35% can be recommended to be applied. Keywords: Growth and yield, lettuce, POC fermented cow urine

Abstract

Mealybug (Paracoccus marginatus)is a major pest on papaya. The use of alternative botanical pesticide controls that are more environmentally friendly in accordance with the concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The use of botanical pesticide, such as Ocimum Sanctum. Is one of the plants that can be used as botanical pesticide. The purpose of this researchis to obtain the concentration of basil flour extract which effectively controlled the papaya mealybug.This research was conducted in the field using Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The concentration of basil flour extract treatment are 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%.Basil leaf flour extract concentration 8% was gave the fastest time in shutting down 50% of papaya mealybug with a time 20.50 hours and papaya mealybug pest control with a mortality rate of 87.50%.Keywords: Papaya (Carica papaya), papaya mealybug (Paracoccus marginatus), basil (Ocimum sanctum)

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of the combination of oil palm bunch ash with urea fertilizer on the growth of cocoa seedlings (Theobroma cacao L.) in peat soil and to know the best dose. This research was conducted in experimental garden of Agricultural Faculty of University of Riau on December 2016 until March 2017. This research method used non factorial Complete Random Design (RAL) consisting of 6 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of 4 g AJKS + 0.5 g Urea, 4 g AJKS + 1 g Urea, 4 g AJKS + 2 g Urea, 8 g AJKS + 0.5 g Urea, 8 g AJKS + 1 g Urea and 8 g AJKS + 2 g Urea. Parameters observed were; plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, root volume, ratio root crown and dry weight of cocoa seedlings. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by using vocabulary and then tested further with DNMRT test at 5% level. The combination of AJKS with urea fertilizer in peat soil significantly affected the diameter of stem, root volume. However, the effect was not significant on plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, ratio root crown and dry weight of cocoa seedlings. The results of this study indicate that giving AJKS combination with urea fertilizer with dose 8 g AJKS + 2 g urea in peat soil produces the best growth of cocoa seedlings. Keywords : Oil palm bunch ash, Urea fertilizer, Peat soil, Cocoa

Abstract

Leptocorisa oratorius F. is a major pest of  rice plant, that can damage the rice plant by sucking the liquid from the cells of the rice plant. For controlling this pest usually used synthetic chemical insecticide but this can cause negative impacts such pest resistance and pest resurgence. The use of leaf extract of Piper aduncum L. as a botanical insecticide is suittable to control Leptocorisa oratorius. The experiment was conducted at Laboratory of Plant Pest and Agribusiness Incubator University  of Riau Pekanbaru, from February to April 2013. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatmens are (Piper aduncum leaf extract are: 0 g/l water,  25 g/l water, 50 g/l water, 75 g/l water, and 100 g/l of water. Aplication of Piper aduncum leaf extract at treatment 75 g/l water was able to kill Leptocorisa oratorius up to 90%. Number concentration is still in the range of LC 95 values  from 7,2 to 21,9%. The exact concentration to kill 95% of the Leptocorisa oratorius is 10,1% or equitvalent to 101 g/l of water.   Keyword: Rice, Leptocorisa oratorius, Peper aduncum L.

Abstract

The objective of this  research  was to get the best botanical insecticide extract to kill golden snail pest on paddy plant. The study arranged experimentally using Complete Randomized Design (CRD)  consist of 4 treaments and 5 replications until get 20 experiment unit.  Every unit was infected by 8 golden snails pest with 30 days old. The treatment was from some botanical insecticide with 10 % concentration  consist of forest betel leaf extract, neem leaf extract, soursop leaf extract, and Titonia diversifolia leaf extract. The parameters those obsevered were  early death  (hour), lethal time 50   (hour),  daily mortality (%), total mortality (%),  temperature and humidity daily on study site. The result showed that neem leaf extract with 10% cocentration have the best  ability and effective to control P. canaliculata with early death 15,2 hours, LT50  24,60 hours and total mortality until 95%. The soursop leaf extract and Titonia diversifolia leaf extract with 10% concentration also effective because can kill more than 80% P. canaliculata.
