Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, strongly associated with inadequate nutrition during the early stages of life. Exclusive breastfeeding is recognized as one of the most effective interventions to prevent stunting. However, breastfeeding practices are influenced by maternal knowledge, attitudes, and family support. The Family Centered Maternity Care (FCMC) approach emphasizes family involvement in maternal and child health, aiming to improve breastfeeding practices and child nutrition. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of FCMC-based education on breastfeeding practices and mothers’ perceptions of fulfilling children’s nutritional needs as an effort to prevent stunting. Methods: A mixed-method design was applied, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative phase used a randomized controlled trial involving 100 postpartum mothers divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received FCMC-based education, while the control group did not. Data were collected using structured questionnaires on breastfeeding practices, knowledge, attitudes, and family support, complemented by semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data were thematically analyzed. Results: The majority of respondents were <18 years old, had basic education, and 65% were employed. Most mothers had good knowledge (59%), good attitudes (61%), and adequate family support (54%). Breastfeeding was reported by 68% of participants. Statistical analysis showed that mothers in the intervention group were almost four times more likely to have a good perception of fulfilling child nutrition compared to the control group (OR = 3.881; 95% CI: 1.561–9.650; p = 0.005). Qualitative findings highlighted the role of family involvement, especially from husbands, in supporting breastfeeding practices. Conclusion: FCMC-based education significantly improves mothers’ perceptions of child nutrition and enhances breastfeeding practices. Integrating FCMC into maternal health programs is recommended as a sustainable strategy to support exclusive breastfeeding and prevent stunting in Indonesia.

Abstract

Nutritional status among elementary school children is influenced by breakfast habits and snack consumption. This study aimed to determine the relationship between breakfast habits and snack consumption with the nutritional status of elementary school children at Singosari Elementary School, Deli Tua. A cross-sectional design was used with 64 respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a 24-hour food recall questionnaire and a Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), while anthropometric measurements were conducted to determine nutritional status based on the BMI-for-age indicator according to WHO standards. The results showed that most children had good breakfast habits (≥4 times per week) and were predominantly categorized as overweight. The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between breakfast habits and nutritional status (p = 0.004) and between snack consumption and nutritional status (p = 0.003). It can be concluded that breakfast and snack consumption are associated with the nutritional status of elementary school children, where the quality of breakfast and the types of snacks consumed play an important role in preventing overweight among school-aged children.

Abstract

Injection trauma in children is a common problem that can lead to anxiety, fear, and refusal of health care procedures in the future. One effective non-pharmacological approach to preventing injection trauma is audiovisual distraction therapy. This community service activity aimed to provide education on audiovisual distraction therapy as an effort to prevent injection trauma in children in Hamlet II, Sidodadi Village, Biru-Biru Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency. The implementation methods included health education sessions, demonstrations on the use of audiovisual media, and interactive discussions with children and parents. The media used consisted of educational videos and animations designed to capture children’s attention during injection procedures. The results of the activity showed an increase in parents’ knowledge and positive responses from children, as indicated by reduced anxiety and fear during injection simulations. Audiovisual distraction therapy education has proven to be a simple, effective, and easily applicable alternative intervention for both health workers and parents in preventing injection trauma in children. It is expected that this activity will improve the quality of pediatric health services and help create positive experiences during medical procedures.

Abstract

Abstract One of the main causes of death and disability on a global scale, hypertension affects a large percentage of the population. Modifying one's eating habits and level of physical activity are two key components of a hypertension management plan. As a serious and widely-present health problem, hypertension is frequently encountered in primary healthcare institutions in Indonesia. Despite the availability of effective medications at healthcare facilities, the public's lack of information about hypertension management and control contributes to the high frequency of the disease in Indonesia. Both pharmaceutical and non-pharmacological methods exist for the management of hypertension. Medication is the cornerstone of pharmacological treatment, which aims to reduce and stabilise blood pressure. Medication must be taken consistently in order for this treatment to work. The use of medicinal drugs is not part of non-pharmacological therapy. Complementary therapy is one form of treatment that does not involve pharmaceuticals. The primary objective of this research is to determine whether hypertension individuals' blood pressure can be reduced by adjusting their intake of Himalayan salt. This study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design, which is typical of quasi-experimental research. The paired sample test was used to analyse the data. The complete sampling method was used to get 21 samples. The data was collected by use of observation sheets. The bivariate study conducted at the Deli Tua Public Health Centre in 2024 found a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, suggesting that changing the consumption of Himalayan salt had an influence on reducing blood pressure in hypertensive individuals.
