Abstract

Purpose – This paper examines the influence of network operational digitalization and network operational automation on sustainable operations, with operational efficiency as a mediating variable. The study was conducted at PT XYZ, a telecommunications company in Indonesia, employing a quantitative approach through a survey of 161 respondents working in network operational units. Methodology/approach – The research instrument was developed based on indicators of digitalization, automation, operational efficiency, and sustainable operations. Data collected were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) through SmartPLS software. Findings – The results reveal that both digitalization and automation of network operations significantly influence operational efficiency. Furthermore, operational efficiency plays a mediating role in linking digitalization and automation to sustainable operations. The study also identifies a significant direct effect of network operational digitalization on sustainable operations. However, network operational automation does not yet demonstrate a direct influence on sustainability outcomes. These findings suggest that while automation contributes to efficiency, its role in sustainability is still evolving, reflecting the staged maturity of technological adoption within the telecommunications industry. Originality/Value – Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of an integrative model connecting digital transformation and sustainable operations in the telecommunications sector. Empirically, it highlights the unique asymmetry between digitalization and automation in driving sustainability, which has been underexplored in prior research. Practically, the results provide valuable insights for company management in formulating effective strategies to enhance digitalization and automation-based network operation systems as a foundation for long-term sustainable operations.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of Information Technology Implementation, Regulatory Compliance, and Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Operational Quality, with a particular focus on the mediating role of Business Process Improvement (BPI). The research is motivated by the operational inefficiencies observed in certification bodies amid increasing demands for digitalization, regulatory adherence, and sustainability integration. A quantitative approach was adopted, utilizing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) for data analysis. Data were collected through a structured survey distributed to internal stakeholders at PT XYZ, a certification organization, and analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0. The findings reveal that all three independent variables—information technology implementation, regulatory compliance, and SDG commitment—positively and significantly influence operational quality. Moreover, Business Process Improvement is found to partially mediate the relationship between each independent variable and operational quality. These results reinforce the theoretical perspective that technology, compliance, and sustainability initiatives yield optimal impact when translated into systematic process improvement efforts. The study highlights the strategic role of BPI as a mechanism that bridges organizational strategy with operational execution. It is recommended that organizations not only invest in digital systems and regulatory alignment but also redesign internal processes to holistically meet performance, efficiency, and sustainability goals.

Abstract

Conventional warehouse management systems are still widely applied in the construction and heavy manufacturing industries in Indonesia, including at PT ABC which is engaged in the fabrication of steel bridges. This research aims to analyze the main problems in the conventional warehouse system in the company and provide recommendations for improvement towards a smart & sustainable warehouse system. The research method used is qualitative case study, with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and documentation. The analysis techniques used include Root Cause Analysis and the 5W1H approach. The results of the study showed a number of systemic weaknesses, such as the absence of a dedicated warehouse admin, the absence of a labeling system, the weak implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and an inefficient warehouse layout. This study recommends five steps for improvement: (1) appointment of special warehouse admins, (2) activation of labeling and Bin Card systems, (3) consistent enforcement of SOPs, (4) implementation of barcode systems, and (5) rearrangement of zoning-based warehouse layouts. This change effort is expected to improve warehouse operational efficiency and support the principles of Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) in the framework of industry 4.0.

Abstract

The development of the construction world today, especially in EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) project work is very rapid and complex. So the level of difficulty and the potential for delays is quite large. From data taken at one of the EPC divisions of construction companies in Jakarta in March 2023, there are 9 projects that experience delays from 10 existing projects. So the purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the main factors causing delays in completing EPC projects as well as alternative completion. In achieving good project time performance, it requires the support of resources (Man, Material, Machine, Money, Method) that are owned efficiently from the input process to the output. The method used in this study is DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve & Control) where analysis is carried out using Fishbbone, 5W + 1H Brainstorming and Pareto Diagram. The main factors causing delays in EPC project work are lack of material supply, lack of manpower, late material arrival schedule, damage or loss of materials, lack of experts and design errors during planning. Alternatives to solving EPC project delays are first submitting an EOT (Extention of Time), adding man power, evaluating schedules, monitoring the implementation of engineering designs, and collaborating with consultants who are more experienced in the EPC field so that there are no planning design errors and implementation methods.
