Abstract

White cattle Taro is a Bali native germplasm that must be preserved in accordancewith the mandate of the Millennium Development Goals to reduce the rate of loss ofbiodiversity as a valuable genetic resources.  At this time, the population of White cattleTaro is 34 heads, which the conditions still cause for concern because of the increasingpressure of various factors. When the white cattle graze in their natural habitat (forestTaro) White cattle Taro to reach a population of 150 animals (2001). Pressure againstwhite cow increasingly widespread because the land is narrow and increasing the amountof forage that should be provided in rotation by traditional society village of Taro. Tarovillage located in District Tegallalang, close to Districts Payangan Gianyar regency. Twodistricts are developing leading commodity Bali cattle. While White cattle Taro also requiresthe availability of forage species are the same as Bali cattle. The results showed that carryingcapacity of forage for White cattle Taro started to decline so that the necessary strategicapproach to the conservation of taro white cattle in order to accelerate the achievement ofthe millennium development. Such efforts are: 1) improving the efficiency of forageproduction 2) optimizing the utilization of forage 3) optimization of land use and cultivationof superior feed and 4) technological capacity building of local feed plant.

Abstract

Research on the condition of air pollution in Denpasar City was carried out inthe mid of 2007. Aims of this activity was to find out noise levels which occured ondifferent sites with different uses, so the solution for the problems can be found out andthe impact can be minimised.Data on noise levels were measured by using sound level metres, while samplingsites were determined by GPS, so replication can be exactly made on the same samplinglocations. Fivty measurements were made on the sites where impacts of noiseencountered by activities surrounding them.Results of the study showed that on the schools, settlements, and open-green areathe noise levels have exceeded the benchmarks. As a result, some efforts need to becarried out , such as improvements of roads, and planting more trees which were not onlyused to minimized noise levels but also can improve aestetic levels of the city.

Abstract

A study on identification of trees species, their use as well as what the communitybelieve about them held in Peliatan Village, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency (Bali) onFebruary, 2005. The study was carried out by taking a walk along the roads or trails whichwere assessed for their potentials as tracking trails in this village while taking notes on thetree species observed. The trees then were determined their status, their use as well as whatthe community believe about them. Results of this study show that there were 148 kinds oftrees which have been identified on this village. From the use perspective, it was revealedthat these trees could give a wide range of benefits for the community of Peliatan as well asBali in general. Their use for decorations, provides shady spots, as well as uncultivated treeswere the highest in their proportion (22%). In addition, in this village they were alsoidentified 18% of trees which believed to provide a possitive or negative impacts to humans.Most of them (73%) were believed to be related to positive impacts to humans.
