Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate the strategy of self instruction which is applied by English students as pre-service teacher in following microteaching. The researcher used a descriptive quantitative data to obtain the data about self instruction implemented by students in following microteaching class. The population of this research was 6th semester of English students who enrolled Microteaching class at the English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu Academic Year 2020/2021. There were 46 students who become the population of this research. The researcher used a questionnaire and observation checklist as the instrument of this research. The finding showed that there were five strategies of self instruction namely; cognitive modelling stage, overt external guidance, overt self guidance, faded overt self guidance, and covert self instruction. Moreover, the dominant role of lecturer was Overt External Guidance. Keywords: Self Instruction Strategy, Microteaching Class

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know whether has an effect of Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) Strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension at second semester English Study Program of UMB. This research is a quasi experimental research. In this research, the population on the research included all second semester English Study Program of UMB in academic year 2021/2022. There were 32 students for the class. One class is an experiment class, it used concept-oriented reading intruction (CORI) and another without using concept-oriented reading intruction (CORI). The instrument on this research was reading test and aimed to measure students’ reading comprehension. The researcher used essay form with total 10 questions. Those question have been valid and reliable since it was adopted from Reading for Intermediate textbook. The finding of the research showed that there is a significant difference in post-test results between the group that was taught with CORI strategy and the group that was taught with conventional technique at second semester English Study Program Students of University Muhammadiyah Bengkulu. Abstract

The research was aim to describe about students’ ability levels in reading comprehension at the second semester Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. This method of this study was descriptive qualitative. The research instrument was a reading comprehension test to show the students’ reading ability based on the theory of (Roe, 2011). There were; main idea, specific information, reference, inference, and vocabulary. The results of the study, it was only analysis reading ability in vocabulary got very high score with the percentage 90.90%. And the four rest abilities got very low score. To be considered, reading is an important part for English language students. It is obvious that we have to be good reading ability in reading comprehension because reading is each part four language skills. The researcher are hoped to teach the students about strategy in reading subject, specially to improve reading ability in main idea, specific information, reference, inference. Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the use of Instagram application in learning English at eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Bengkulu Tengah. This study applied a quantitative method. The subject of this research was twenty eight students who learn English at XI MIPA 1 in SMAN 1 Bengkulu Tengah. The researcher used English test to know the use of instagram in teaching English. The English test consisted of four skills of English; listening, reading, speaking, and writing skill. The test was given after the researcher implemented instagram as media in teaching English. Moreover, the researcher made video recording while conducting the research. the use of Instagram application was effective to develop students’ English ability. It was proved by mostly the students got English score >KKM (78) afer using Instagram application. There were only ten students who cannot reach the KKM but their score was still above 60. Moreover, based on the interview result the students’ admitted that the use of Instagram in teaching English was so fun because they can learn while playing. In Instagram there were many accounts which helped them to learn vocabulary, grammar, and four English skills. the researcher recommends the students to apply kind of activities on the Instagram such as making English video or writing the English captions to develop their English skill.
