Abstract

One hundred and eight pullets of 13 weeks old white Tangerang-Wareng, were allocated to numbers of wire cages. Each cage had 4050 cm2 floor space. The treatments were three cage-densities (4, 6 and 8 pullets/cage) with six replications for each treatment for growth observation, while there were other three treatments (observation times), which were 07.00-08.00 (morning), 12.00-13.00 (noon) or 17.00-18.00 (afternoon), that were applied and replicated in three for behavior observation. Commercial ration containing 20.86% crude protein, 3.22 Ca, 0.87% total P and 2982 kkal metabolizable energy (ME)/kg and drinking water were provided ad libitum. Results showed that cage density neither significantly (P<0.05) affected birds’ final bodyweight, bodyweight gain, feed consumption nor feed conversion ratio. Analysis of variance showed that there was no interaction effect of cage densites and observation times on every observed behavior variable, except on standing activity. Cage density did not significantly (P<0,05) affect behavior, except behavior of cleanning, which increased with the increase of space allocation. The presentages of eating and pecking were significantly increase in the morning, while presentage of bird having a rest increased at noon. Drinking behavior was not affected by both cage density and observation time. The most birds showed the highest activities in the morning. In general the most cage density of 8 birds/4050 cm2 of floor space (506 cm2/bird), was more likely comfortable to the birds to live. Abstract

Palm oil mill effluent, a by product of crude palm oil processing, is found in an exessive amount in Central Kalimantan. It is estimated that 400 ton of this material is produced per day by crude palm oil (CPO) factory in this region. This material contains 12.63-17.41% crude protein, 9.98-25.79% crude fiber, 7.12-15.15% crude fat and 3217-3454 kcal/kg (gross energy). An experiment was conducted on broiler chickens of Hubbard strain in Kapuas District. The objectives of the experiment was to study the performance of broilers fed solid in the diet. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design. The treatments were levels of solid in the diet, i.e., 0.0, 12.5, 25.0 and 37.5%. Four hundred broilers were devided into 4 treatment groups with 5 replications, consisted of 20 chickens in each replicate. The results of this experiment showed that diet containing 0.0, 12.5, 25.0 and 37.5% of solid respectively produced final live weight of broilers 2508, 2229 and 1880 g respectively, whereas control (0.0% of solid) was 2712 g. Feed conversion of the treatments were 2.39, 2.76, 3.24 respectively and without solid as control was 2.36. It is concluded that diet containing as much as 12.5% of solid can be used in broiler ration. Key Words: Solid, Broiler Chickens, Performance

Abstract

Wareng and Kampung chicken are Indonesian native chicken that have good potential to be dual purpose chicken. Information on these chickens has not hast’n widely published so that their genetic potential is unknown. The purpose of this  research is to collect basic data of the external genetic characteristic from Wareng and Kampung chickens consisting feather color, feather pattern, feather feature, feather shine, shank color and comb shape; to identify rate of introgression imported breed (Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn and Barred Plymouth Rock), the purity and genetic variability of Wareng and Kampung chickens. This study was carried out at the Research Institute for Animal Production, Ciawi, Bogor. Materials used were 361 of Wareng chickens (313 females, 48 males) and 439 of Kampung chickens (352 females, 87 males). Data were analyzed using formulas to identify gene frequency, rate of introgression of purity native gene frequency and the genetic variability. The result showed that the control of gene constitution on external characteristic of Wareng chicken was I_ E_ bb S_ Id_ pp and ii e+ _bb ss idid pp on Kampung chicken. Wareng chicken own constitution of gene the same as with White Leghorn (II EE SS BB IdId pp). Wareng Chicken is not containing frequency of original gene of Indonesian local chicken (Kampung). The level of influence value (rate of introgression) from Europe and American chicken for Wareng chicken was of equal to 84% and 25% to Kampung chicken. So that the purity for Wareng chicken was 16% and 75% was for Kampung chicken. Abstract

Chicken egg is a good quality animal protein source. The quality of the egg can be improved with spesific feeding, such as omega-3 supplemented diet. Merawang chicken is one of local Indonesian chicken domesticated at Bangka Island, South Sumatera, and popular as a layer bird. The aim of this research was to study the effect of omega-3 supplementation on the physical characteristic, chemical composition and organoleptic test of Merawang chicken eggs. One hundred and thirty six eggs (73 eggs were control and 63 eggs was omega-3 suplemented) were collected from 64 Merawang chicken for eleven weeks. Feeding were arranged isonitrogenous (15.8%) and isocaloric (2650 kkal/kg), and fed ad libitum. Omega-3 feeding was produced from fermentation of soybean waste (ampas tahu) and mold (Rhizopus oligosporus), then mixed with sea fish oil waste (1:1, w/w). Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the effect of storage periode and egg types on quality and chemical components of DHA enriched egg. One hundred and twenty six each control and DHA enriched eggs used in this research. The research had been implemented using the general linier models procedure included the storage period and eggs treathment and interaction between these factors, comparison test is calculated based on Tukey Test. Internal egg quality was observed, eq,: weight of egg, yolk color and water activity.  Internal quality were influenced by egg type.  Albumen height and haugh unit value were influenced by both type of chicken and storage periods. Fat and cholesterol levels of egg DHA-rich Arabic and commercial were lower than those of control. However, the percentage of omega-3 fatty acids components were higher in DHA-rich Arabic and commercial than in control eggs.

Abstract

Telur merupakan salah satu pangan asal hewani yang banyak dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat. Telurmemiliki kandungan asam lemak omega 3 (DHA dan EPA) yang sangat baik bagi kesehatan tubuhterutama untuk perkembangan otakbalita dan pencegahan penyakit degeneratif pada manula. AsupanDHA dan EPA di kalangan masyarakat masih kurang dikarenakan pangan yang mengandung sumberDHA dan EPA masih terbatas. Penambahan suplemen omega 3 dalam pakan ayam petelur terbuktidapat menambah kandungan omega 3-IPB di dalam telur yang dihasilkan. Telur merupakan bahanmakanan yang mudah diperoleh dan sering diaplikasikan ke dalam berbagai olahan pangan lainnya,sehingga penggunaan telur omega 3-IPB dapat memberikan peluang peningkatan kualitas gizimasyarakat. Suplemen omega 3 dalam pakan ayam telah dipatenkan pada tahun 2005 dengan No IDP 0023652. Telur omega 3-IPB merupakan sebuah invensi yang terus dikenalkan dan dikomersialkanagar produk tersebut dapat dikenal serta dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat luas. Pengenalan telur omega 3-IPB dilakukan atas kerja sama antara berbagai pihak, yaitu pihak akademisi, wirausahawan, dan pemerintah yang terangkum dalam triple helix. Konsep triple helix menghasilkan kontribusi dari masing-masing pihak yang terlibat sehingga tercipta kolaborasi yang membuat produk telur omega 3-IPB ini telah mendapat berbagai penghargaan dan pengakuan baik di tingkat regional (Jabodetabek), nasional,maupun internasional.
