Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are integral to Indonesia's economic development, comprising a vast majority of national business entities and significantly contributing to the GDP. Despite their importance, MSMEs face challenges in a highly competitive landscape, exacerbated by foreign competition. This study focuses on Agribusiness MSMEs in Balikpapan City, aiming to analyze their entrepreneurial orientation and business performance while identifying factors influencing this relationship. Employing a quantitative approach, data was collected through structured questionnaires from registered MSMEs. The analysis, conducted using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), reveals that innovation, proactiveness, and autonomy significantly influence business performance, while competitiveness and risk-taking do not. The findings underscore the pivotal role of innovation in enhancing SME performance, providing insights for policymakers and managers to support SME growth and sustainability. Despite its contributions, the study has limitations, including its focus on a specific sector and reliance on qualitative data. Future research could explore comparative studies across industries, integrate quantitative methods, and investigate the role of government policies in fostering SME innovation. Overall, this research contributes to understanding the relationship between innovation and SME performance, guiding strategies to support SMEs in Balikpapan and beyond.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the pesticide residue levels in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) marketed at Pasar Keputran, Surabaya, and to evaluate whether the residue content exceeds the maximum permissible limit set by applicable regulations. This study employs a quantitative method with laboratory experiments using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to analyze pesticide residues. The tomato samples tested were obtained from farmers in Desa Sajen, Pacet District, Mojokerto Regency, and sold at Pasar Keputran, Surabaya. The study grouped the samples based on the frequency of pesticide spraying: no spraying, one-time spraying, and two-time spraying. The results showed that pesticide residues were present in the tomatoes, with levels increasing as the frequency of spraying increased. Samples with two-time spraying contained residues exceeding the maximum permissible limits set by food safety regulations. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences between the residue levels in the samples and the expected values, indicating potential health risks for consumers. This study also highlights the importance of strict supervision of pesticide use, especially concerning dosage and frequency of spraying, to prevent negative impacts on public health. The implementation of safer and more sustainable agricultural practices is necessary to reduce the risk of excessive pesticide exposure and to raise farmers awareness of proper pesticide use procedures in accordance with standards.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a systematic review of occupational safety practices in the agricultural sector and their impact on worker health. The agricultural sector remains one of the sectors with the highest rates of workplace accidents and exposure to hazardous chemicals, especially in developing countries. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, 21 scientific articles published in the past ten years were analyzed. The review results indicated that the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), occupational safety training, and strict regulations contribute significantly to reducing the risk of pesticide poisoning and work injuries. However, in many regions such as Indonesia, Tanzania, and Nigeria, PPE use remained low due to limited access and quality. Safety training was effective in reducing symptoms of acute poisoning, but implementation was uneven. Furthermore, chronic pesticide exposure remained a serious threat with symptoms of respiratory, neurological, and even heart disease. Studies in countries such as Iran, Colombia, and the United States showed that strong supervision and community-based education can increase risk awareness and encourage safer work behaviours. This study concluded that an integrative approach encompassing education, regulation, access to PPE, and health services was key to improving occupational safety and health in the global agricultural sector.

Abstract

This community service program aims to replicate the mixed cropping system as an innovation in land use development in the urban area of Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. With high pressure on land availability due to urbanization, the productive use of yard land is crucial to support local food security and community well-being. The program was implemented from May to June 2025, involving 10 locations in several sub-districts with various combinations of fast-growing vegetables and horticultural crops. The activity approach included land identification, outreach, technical training, planting implementation, and intensive mentoring. The results showed a significant increase in land productivity and active community participation in intercropping land management. Mixed cropping has proven effective in increasing crop diversification while maintaining micro-ecosystem balance by reducing the use of chemical pesticides. Despite constraints such as limited water supply and maintenance time, efficient irrigation solutions and time management can be an alternative. This model has the potential to be replicated in other urban areas with similar characteristics and can serve as a reference for developing spatial planning policies based on local food security. This activity contributes to community empowerment and sustainable development in urban areas.

Abstract

Maintaining a green, clean, beautiful, and lush city park through the year requires sustainable management, which includes maintenance like watering, pruning, trimming, and rejuvenation, as well as the creation of new parks. This study aims to identify the factors that influence the successful management of city parks in Surabaya and to understand the organic material cycle involved in managing these parks. This study used qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews with park management personnel, documentation from various city government policies, and field observations related to park management activities. Data were analysed using triangulation methods. Trees and city parks need regular care, such as pruning and trimming, to provide optimal benefits. Pruning waste, along with other organic waste, is composted at composting facilities or recycling centers widely available in Surabaya. The cyclical management of organic waste from city parks impacts the growth and development of Surabaya's parks while simultaneously solve the problem of organic waste produced by city communities.Although many studies discuss urban green space and waste management in Surabaya, specific research mapping the biomass cycle and circular economy framework in city park management is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to fill that research gap by exploring how circular economy principles are implemented in the Surabaya city park management system.
