Abstract

This article aims to present the results of analysis of the problems associated with the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) in the online tutorial at the Department of English Literature at Universitas Terbuka (UT). The method used is descriptive method to describe the actual situation in the presentation of the data and evaluate them to find answers to the research questions. The collected data have been described and studied in depth in order to obtain a greater understanding of research purposes. The research approach is a qualitative and quantitative approach. Merging the two approaches is the best way for each approach will be complementary. The data used is a questionnaire with closed questions and interviews. The findings indicate that OER contributes significantly in online tutorial and helps the participants to comprehend the material.

Abstract

Distance university has a such unique characteristic that differentiates it with the conventional one. Universitas Terbuka (UT) is one of distance education institutions in the world. As a distance university, UT does not employs face to face learning but provides delivery of learning materials through various learning support. This research focuses on the optimal usage of Writing 1 tutorial online by UT’s students. The aims of this research are to asses the quality of Writing 1 tutorial online’s material, difficulty level of Writing 1 tutorial online’s tasks, and the students’ problems in accessing Writing 1 tutorial online. Data were collected from the students who have been registered in Writing 1 tutorial online in two semesters in 2006 registration period and from expert in tutorial online. All 12 registered students were served as samples. They consist of active and passive students who access Writing 1 tutorial online. Data are collected through questionaire sent to the students. The findings reveal that the quality of Writing 1 tutorial online’s material is relatively good, it has been well organized and presented, the students find it easy to do the tasks given in Writing 1 tutorial online, and 75% of samples did not have problem in accessing the tutorial but the rest said they got difficulty in login in

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kualitas terjemahan idiom dan terminologi khusus yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa dengan menggunakan teknologi penerjemahan berupa ‘Google Translate’ (GT). Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan dua metode. Pertama, satu set instrumen yang berisi teks sumber (TSu)dalam bahasa Inggris. Siswa diminta untuk menerjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa sasaran (BSa). Kedua, wawancara untuk mendapatkan informasi tentang pengalaman dan pendapat mahasiswa tentang penggunaan GT. Terjemahan yang dihasilkan untuk idiom dan terminologi khusus tidak berkualitas karena dua sebab. Pertama, GT tidak dapat menerjemahkan unsur budaya karena masih dibutuhkan penerjemah manusia dalam proses penerjemahan. Kedua, mahasiswa kurang memiliki pengetahuan tentang bagaimana menggunakan GT dengan baik, sehingga pendidikan terkait GT menjadi penting bagi para penerjemah. Rekomendasi dari penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa atau penerjemah terlebih dahulu harus mengidentifikasi idiom dan terminologi khusus TSu sebelum menerjemahkan menggunakan GT. Kedua, mahasiswa atau penerjemah harus mengetahui konteks TSu sebelum menerjemahkan menggunakan GT. Terakhir, teks sasaran yang dihasilkan dengan GT harus dibaca ulang sehingga terasa wajar dan berterima di dalam budaya pembaca BSa.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' soft skills in learning support services, namely webinar tutorial (tuweb) and online tutorial (tuton), and the relationship of the soft skills to the student's grades in both tuton and tuweb, Indonesia Open University's Postgraduate Program. Aspects of the soft skills developed were 1) teamwork; 2) communication through Tuweb's discussion forums; 3) oral communication; and 4) leadership. This study used a survey method with quantitative approach. The participants were 99 students from two courses. The research instrument was online survey questionnaire using Microsoft Forms. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. The results of the study were 1) students' soft skills on tuton and tuweb have developed as expected; 2) teamwork and communication skills correlate with students' attendance and discussion; 3) oral communication and leadership skills do not correlate students' discussions and assignments; and 4) teamwork and written communication skills had the most significant contribution to the tutorials' grade compared to oral communication and leadership skills.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) represent a prioritized program within the framework of the Indonesian government's initiatives, bearing substantial potential to enhance a self-reliant and prosperous Indonesian economy. The village of Tonjong in the Bogor Regency, West Java, exhibits significant potential as a locus for MSME activities. This is evident from the occupational pursuits of the Tonjong village community, ranking third in frequency, engaged as MSME operators. In the era of globalization, marked by the advent of highly sophisticated technologies, a considerable number of MSME practitioners in the Tonjong village remain inadequately acquainted with proficient strategies for digital marketing. Consequently, this circumstance has culminated in diminished sales or revenues for the MSME practitioners producing a diverse array of items such as handicrafts and cassava crackers, among others. This predicament underscores the impetus behind community empowerment efforts, realized through the dissemination of insights pertaining to digital product marketing and innovative diversification of cassava cracker flavours within the Tonjong village. The overarching objective centers on amplifying market appeal and garnering broader public interest in these products. The execution of this exposition is meticulously orchestrated to maximize its allure, facilitating the populace's seamless assimilation of diverse knowledge. The didactic approach extends beyond didactic lectures to encompass practical engagements, exemplified by the direct involvement with a digital product marketing application and the multifaceted cassava cracker production process incorporating an array of flavour innovations. The ramifications of this exposition-induced community empowerment yield multifarious outcomes. Notable among these are (1) on the social front, heightened community collaboration for collective advancement; (2) on the economic axis, the community exhibits elevated determination to ameliorate the socio-economic landscape toward public welfare; (3) concerning the educational facet, the community gains fresh insights into the digitalization product of MSME products and acquires novel knowledge regarding innovative cassava cracker flavour profiles.

Abstract

The community service activity aims to provide solutions to teachers at SDN Pengadilan 5 Bogor City to improve the effectiveness of learning English and Sundanese vocabulary using the strategy of educational domino cards. This is in line with the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum Policy of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, especially in the field of language development, namely for language internationalization and revitalization of regional languages. The method used is by directly practicing the use of domino cards through 3 (three) ways, namely (1) playing educational domino cards directly as playing domino cards in general; (2) playing hoe cards; and (3) playing cards by stringing sentences together. The results of the mentoring show that teachers gain new knowledge insights that are useful for their daily work to practice bilingual learning strategist at SDN Pengadilan 5 Bogor City, namely to apply the strategy of using educational dominoes to increase the effectiveness of learning English and Sundanese easily, innovatively, interestingly, not boringly, and happily. Abstract

This study aims to see the development of student soft skills in online learning at Universitas Terbuka (UT). The case study focused on postgraduate students at UT. The soft skills aspects are teamwork and communication in webinar tutorials (Tuweb) at the UT Postgraduate Program. The selected two aspects departed from the results of previous research, which observed the development of student soft skills in several aspects. Two aspects stand out in learning, namely teamwork and communication. The data collection instrument used was Focused Group Discussion (FGD). Data analysis uses content analysis. An important result of the research is that the two aspects of students' soft skills on Tuweb have developed as expected in online learning at UT. This result is an interesting reason for students to study at UT, considering that UT conducts online learning. Students' ability develops not only from the aspect of hard skills but also from the aspect of soft skills. The study's findings suggest that online learning can be an effective way for students to develop their soft skills.  AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat perkembangan soft skill mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran daring di Universitas Terbuka (UT). Studi kasus berfokus pada mahasiswa pascasarjana di UT. Aspek soft skill yang dilihat adalah aspek kerjasama tim dan komunikasi dalam tutorial webinar (Tuweb) di Program Pascasarjana UT. Dua aspek yang dipilih berangkat dari hasil penelitian sebelumnya yang mengamati perkembangan soft skill mahasiswa pada beberapa aspek. Ada dua aspek yang menonjol dalam pembelajaran, yaitu kerjasama tim dan komunikasi. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah Focused Group Discussion (FGD). Analisis data menggunakan content analysis. Hasil penting dari penelitian ini adalah pengembangan kedua aspek soft skill mahasiswa pada tuweb telah berkembang sesuai dengan yang diharapkan dalam pembelajaran daring di UT. Hasil tersebut menjadi alasan menarik mahasiswa untuk kuliah di UT, mengingat UT melaksanakan pembelajaran secara daring. Kemampuan peserta didik berkembang tidak hanya dari aspek hard skill saja tetapi juga dari aspek soft skill. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran online dapat menjadi cara yang efektif bagi siswa untuk mengembangkan soft skill mereka.Kata Kunci: Kerjasama; komunikasi; soft skill; tutorial online; tutorial webinar

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the implementation of online learning in distance education utilizing the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework, as introduced by Garrison. The CoI framework consists of three core elements essential in implementing online learning: social presence, cognitive presence, and teaching presence. These components are crucial for the success of online learning modalities. This is due to the nature of online learning, where instructors and learners are not present at the exact location or time, necessitating a 'binding element' in the educational process to ensure effective management of learning activities. Consequently, this research involved distributing questionnaires to 317 participants enrolled in online courses at Universitas Terbuka Indonesia. The results obtained from this study were classified as high, indicating that all three CoI elements achieved high ratings. Specifically, the aspect of cognitive presence was dominated by resolution capabilities. In social presence, the open communication capacity scored higher than the affective and cohesive components. Meanwhile, facilitating discourse was rated higher in the teaching presence domain than instructional design, organization, and direct instruction. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that learning across these three aspects is considerably high in the students' online learning experiences. AbstrakPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pembelajaran daring pada pembelajaran jarak jauh melalui pendekatan Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework yang diperkenalkan oleh Garrison. CoI memiliki tiga unsur yang menjadi perhatian dalam implementasi pembelajaran daring, yaitu social presence, cognitive presence, dan teaching presence. Ketiga unsur ini menjadi komponen penting dalam keberhasilan pembelajaran yang bersifat daring. Mengapa demikian? Karena pembelajaran daring adalah pembelajaran dimana antara pengajar dan peserta tidak berada pada tempat dan waktu yang bersamaan. Sehingga jika tidak ada “pengikat” dalam proses pembelajaran tersebut akan sulit untuk mengontrol pelaksanaan pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, pada penelitian ini dilakukan penyebaran kuesioner kepada 317 peserta yang mengikuti perkuliahan pembelajaran daring di Universitas Terbuka Indonesia. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini dalam kategori tinggi. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa dari ketiga unsur CoI berada pada kategori tinggi, sspek cognitive presence didominasi oleh kemampuan resolution. Pada aspek social presence kemampuan open communication tinggi dibandingkan affective dan cohesive. Sedangkan pada aspek teaching presence facilitating discourse memiliki nilai lebih tinggi dibandingkan instructional design and organization dan direct instruction. Berdasarkan data tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa kehadiran pembelajaran dari ketiga aspek tersebut cukup tinggi dalam pembelajaran daring yang dialami oleh siswa.Kata Kunci: community of Inquiry; evaluasi pengalaman belajar mahasiswa; pembelajaran daring
