Abstract

This study analyzes the density of Class A aggregate base course (LPA) on the South Cross Road (JLS) Lot 3 P. Serang–Sumbersih Blitar project, left lane STA 4+125–4+225, focusing on compliance with specified density standards. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied using field density test data from the sand cone method at three points: STA 4+125 L, STA 4+175 L, and STA 4+225 L. Results yielded wet unit weight, moisture content, and dry unit weight values compared to the maximum dry unit weight plan (100% density). STA 4+125 L and 4+175 L achieved 100.44% and 101.71% (moisture 9–11%), meeting and slightly exceeding specifications; STA 4+225 L reached only 94.18% (moisture 18%), due to suboptimal heavy equipment compaction, posing a potential weak point in the pavement structure. Recommendations include material replacement, drying and re-compaction after moisture adjustment, or cement stabilization to Cement Treated Base (CTB).

Abstract

The Jenggala Highway – Pahlawan Highway intersection is located in an industrial warehouse area and adjacent to a railway crossing. This condition causes this intersection to have a high level of traffic activity and causes congestion. From these problems, the performance of this intersection has a saturation degree of 1.07 in the afternoon and an intersection delay of 54.87 seconds/SMP. Therefore, this intersection requires treatment to make the intersection performance more efficient. The treatment carried out was replacing the signal phase setting from initially 2 phases to 3 signal phases and East approaches are not allowed to turn left. So the saturation degree value after treatment was 0.75 in the afternoon and a decrease in intersection delay of 37.90. This saturation degree value has met the performance requirements for signalized intersections, which is less than 0.85 according to the handbook Indonesian Road Capacity (PKJI) 2023.

Abstract

Trans Jatim is a provincial bus-based public transport system initiated by the East Java Government to strengthen regional connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion, particularly within the Gerbangkertosusila metropolitan area. One of the newly introduced corridors, Corridor V, operates along the Surabaya–Bangkalan route via the Suramadu Bridge. This study aims to assess the operational performance of this corridor by focusing on three key indicators: load factor, travel time, and headway. A field survey with an observational approach was conducted to collect primary data directly from actual operations. The findings indicate that the average load factor reached only 42%, which falls short of the required minimum standard of 70%. In contrast, the average travel time of 118 minutes and headway of 20 minutes both meet the acceptable thresholds outlined in official technical guidelines. These results reveal that among the evaluated indicators, only the load factor fails to comply with the service standards. The insights from this research are expected to serve as a reference for enhancing the efficiency and service quality of the Trans Jatim Bus Corridor V in a more sustainable manner.

Abstract

Kepuhsari Terminal in Jombang Regency plays a strategic role as a Type B passenger terminal serving Rural Transportation, Inter-City Within Province (AKDP), and Inter-City Between Provinces (AKAP) services. However, the terminal's facilities and operations still exhibit several deficiencies, including inadequate waiting areas, damaged and poorly maintained sanitation facilities, limited service information, and insufficient maintenance. These conditions reduce the comfort and safety of terminal users. This study aimed to evaluate the conformity of the terminal's physical facilities with the Minimum Service Standards (MSS) stipulated in the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. PM 40 of 2015 and to analyze passenger satisfaction with the terminal services. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through field observations to assess the physical condition of the terminal based on the MSS and through questionnaires administered to 100 users of Kepuhsari Terminal. The data were analyzed using Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) to identify service attributes requiring priority improvement and the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) to measure overall passenger satisfaction. The IPA results showed that the average facility performance score was 2.65, while the average importance score was 3.30. The CSI value was 53.02%, which falls within the 40%–60% range and indicates a moderately satisfied level of passenger satisfaction. These findings suggest that the quality of services at Kepuhsari Terminal requires further improvement, particularly for service attributes with high importance but relatively low performance.

Abstract

The Track Quality Index (TQI) is an essential indicator for evaluating the geometric quality of railway tracks. This study aims to analyze TQI values and predict their degradation based on geometric parameters and ballast thickness on the Makassar–Parepare railway line with a 1435 mm track gauge. The data used include track recording car measurements, ballast thickness, as well as traffic load and frequency. The analytical method employed is simple linear regression to determine the effect of ballast thickness on TQI. The results show that 66.66% of the track segments fall into the “Excellent” category. Furthermore, ballast thickness has a significant influence, with an R² value of 0.973, indicating that the thicker the ballast layer, the better the track quality. Long-term TQI prediction reveals an increase in TQI values over time due to ballast degradation, with the average value rising from 24.23 in the 5th year to 69.61 in the 25th year. These findings highlight the importance of periodic maintenance interventions based on TQI prediction to sustain the safety and comfort of railway operations.

Abstract

Trains have become a reliable mode of land transportation as they can avoid traffic congestion, operate on structured schedules, and offer high passenger and freight capacity. Technological advancements have led to the development of high-speed trains capable of traveling over 300 km/h on dedicated, unobstructed tracks, enhancing travel efficiency and regional connectivity. In Indonesia, the Jakarta–Surabaya high-speed rail project is expected to facilitate mobility, reduce congestion on the Pantura corridor, and complement conventional lines such as the Pasar Turi–Lamongan route. This study aims to analyze the horizontal and vertical alignment design, rail elevation dimensions, and the location of gradient transitions on the high-speed rail line between Pasar Turi and Lamongan stations. The geometric planning of the high-speed rail uses references from Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 7 of 2022 and the book Jalan Rel by Suryo Hapsoro Tri Utomo, with secondary topographic data from Google Earth Pro processed using Global Mapper and Civil 3D. The results indicate that the horizontal alignment is designed with speeds below 350 km/h—specifically 300 km/h, 250 km/h, and 120 km/h—to avoid overlap in closely spaced curves, while the vertical alignment is planned for a design speed of 350 km/h with concave and convex vertical radii of 25,000 meters and a gradient of less than 2%. The study concludes with a rail elevation of 175 mm, curve radii of 8,000 meters for 350 km/h, eight SCS-type curves with some lower-speed segments to prevent spiral overlap, and a vertical alignment on an elevated track with eight curve points, a radius of 25,000 meters, and a maximum gradient of 2%.

Abstract

Traffic accidents remain one of the major transportation problems that continue to increase along with population growth and the rising mobility of the community. This condition leads to a higher risk of traffic accidents, resulting in both material and non-material losses while endangering road users' safety. One of the road sections with a relatively high accident rate is the Legundi–Bypass Krian Road in Sidoarjo Regency, where 23 traffic accident cases were recorded by the Traffic Accident Unit of the Sidoarjo Regional Police in 2024. This study aims to analyze the factors causing traffic accidents, identify accident-prone locations, and evaluate the condition of road safety facilities along the Legundi–Bypass Krian Road. The methods employed include the Accident Equivalent Number (AEN) and the Upper Control Limit (UCL) to identify accident-prone areas (black spots), Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) to analyze accident-causing factors based on road users' perceptions, and a scoring method to assess the feasibility of road safety facilities. The results indicate that human factors are the dominant cause of traffic accidents, several road segments are identified as accident-prone locations based on AEN values exceeding the UCL, and a number of road safety facilities are still in suboptimal condition. Therefore, improving road safety facilities and implementing appropriate treatments at accident-prone locations are recommended to enhance traffic safety.

Abstract

Abstract

Unsignalized intersections are vulnerable to performance degradation as traffic volume increases, particularly at the Wadung Asri–Brebek–Gedong Masjid Intersection in Sidoarjo Regency. This study aims to analyze the intersection performance based on the 2023 Indonesian Highway Capacity Guidelines (PKJI 2023) and compare the effectiveness of a roundabout and a signalized intersection (APILL) as alternative treatments under projected traffic growth. The research method involved manual traffic surveys conducted over four days during peak hours, including traffic volume and intersection geometric data. The results show that the existing condition has a degree of saturation (DS) of 0.88 with an average delay of 15.16 s/SMP. Based on the traffic projection for the design year of 2030, the DS increases to 1.11, with an average delay of 26.08 s/SMP, indicating that the intersection does not meet the PKJI 2023 standard (DS < 0.85). The first treatment involved geometric widening of each intersection approach and designing a roundabout, resulting in a DS of 1.07 and an average delay of 52.00 s/SMP. The second treatment involved geometric widening of each intersection approach and the design of a four-phase signalized intersection, resulting in a DS of 0.79 and an average delay of 51.80 s/SMP. Therefore, geometric widening combined with a four-phase signalized intersection is recommended as the preferred treatment alternative because it achieves a DS that meets the PKJI 2023 standard, with a relatively comparable delay to the roundabout alternative.
