Abstract

CI is a multinational company that involves manufacturing carbon black. The carbon black is packed in a 1250 kg jumbo bag and a 25 kg paper sack. Based on reject weight data for December 2019, 4.4% of paper sacks were rejected, with some caused by suboptimal packer machine settings. The study will use the design of experiment to determine critical quality factors for carbon black grade Sterling-V, identify waste in the packaging process, determine the sigma value in the packaging process, identify factors causing product defects, evaluate the risk priority number, and provide suggestions for optimal packaging machine conditions through factorial experiments. The reject weight of Sterling-V products due to reject weight was 123 out of the total production. The study results showed a sigma level of 2.205, with the engine factor being the main cause of reject weight (RPN 900). The optimal packaging machine conditions proposed for Sterling-V grade are Bulk Fill Cut Off (22.5 kg), High Pressure Air (7 bar), and Trim Final Cut Off (25 kg), which can reduce reject weight to 23 from total production.

Abstract

Industrial competition is intensifying, raising the importance of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices. This study focuses on LPG distributor Fajar Sidiq Nurhidayah, a company specializing in 3 kg LPG cylinders. The lack of safety inductions and adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) heightens the risk of workplace accidents, necessitating this research to mitigate such risks. Employing the Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) methods, potential hazards were identified. JSA revealed risks like collisions, being struck by the truck's back, tube pinching, and ergonomic hazards, foreseeing injuries ranging from bruises to fractures and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). HIRA uncovered six hazards: one low-risk, four medium-risk, and one high-risk. FTA pinpointed the primary danger source to be the warehouse station due to operator negligence during tube lifting, lack of PPE usage, and entangled tubes, emphasizing the worker's condition and work environment.

Abstract

A company operating in the sector of workshop production of nuts and bolts requires workers to maintain high levels of speed, precision, and consistency, as well as significant responsibility to deliver the best results for customers. However, while carrying out their tasks, workers may make mistakes due to work fatigue. Therefore, researchers conducted a study to determine the extent of mental and physical workload using the Bourdon Wiersma and Cardiovascular Load (CVL) methods. Bourdon Wiersma is an objective method of measuring workload to determine the level of mental burden in tasks requiring precision, speed, and high consistency, including monotonous tasks. Cardiovascular Load (CVL) involves comparing the increase in heart rate with the maximum heart rate and classifying workload based on the increase in working heart rate compared to the maximum heart rate, expressed as cardiovascular load (% CVL). The research results show that the Bourdon Wiersma percentage for the three job tasks was generally quite good before work and fell within the category of moderate or mild tiredness after work. Additionally, the largest average %CVL occurred in operators at 63%.

Abstract

This research investigates work posture analysis and complaint risks associated with polyethylene pellets production at a petrochemical company in Cilegon, Indonesia. The concerns center on improper work postures among forklift operators engaged in repetitive tasks and loading personnel involved in manual handling, such as transferring bagged pellets onto trucks. The study aimed to identify the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire's primary complaint categories, assess the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) score, determine recommended weights for workers using Recommended Weight Limit (RWL) and lifting Index (LI) calculations, and propose enhancements to mitigate the risk of MSDs. According to the NBM questionnaire, both forklift operators and loading personnel reported experiencing moderate to high levels of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) discomfort. REBA scores revealed forklift operators scoring between 5 and 6, while loading dock workers scored between 11 and 12. The estimated RWL for loading personnel in different positions is 6.531 kg, 3.5707 kg, and 6.0463 kg, respectively. Recommendations include improving the work system, conducting health assessments, revising hiring criteria, developing adjustable tables, optimizing packaging bags, establishing SOPs, and modifying forklift area components. These suggestions remain broad, with detailed plans intended for future research and implementation.

Abstract

Tofu is one food that has a lot of devotees, especially in Indonesia. Tahu Intan is a factory engaged in making tofu which is done traditionally and operates every day. During direct interviews with workers, workers complained of pain felt in the upper body so it needed further study. Awkward body postures can cause complaints which are often called Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Therefore, the body postures of workers at Tahu Intan will be analyzed. By using the NBM and RULA questionnaires as an assessment of work posture, it is expected to be able to assess and provide recommendations for improvements for the Year of the Diamond. The assessment of the four workers for NBM was found to be in the moderate category, with the highest level of complaints in the upper left arm, right wrist, left and right hands, and pain in both knees, calves, ankles foot. The working posture that needs attention and improvement is in the process of boiling and filtering soybean juice

Abstract

The problem of plastic waste becomes a complicated problem, especially in big cities. Indonesia. Indonesia is in second in the list of 20 countries that throw the most waste plastic at sea. The top sequence is occupied by China which dumps up to 3.5 million tons of plastic waste to the sea every year. Plastic waste production in Indonesia is ranked second to domestic waste producers, which is 5.4 million tons per year. In 2016, the government through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has implemented a plastic bag program. The program is expected to limit the use of plastic bags used in modern markets. Buyers are required to pay a sum of money for each used plastic bag. But unfortunately, the rate charged for each plastic bag is still felt too cheap, so the buyers still feel no objection to the cost to be incurred. In addition, the program is only implemented in supermarkets and malls only. Therefore it is necessary to socialize the importance of limiting the use of plastic bags. One way is to provide an understanding to the community to re-use shopping bags that can be used repeatedly. Community service aims to provide an overview and understanding of the dangers of plastic waste. So the community is moved to participate in the program limiting the use of plastic bags, that is by re-use shopping bags that can be used repeatedly.
