Abstract

An enantiomer molecule consisted of the chiral atom has different structure conformations, which exhibit different activities as well. Yet, its separation considerably difficult since ordinary separation could not separate both molecules. One of the popular enantioseparations which are often used was using organic polymer monolithic column modified by ethylenediamine-β-cyclodextrin (EDA-β-CD) as the enantioseparations site. The aim of this research was to produce chiral stationary phase column for enantioseparations of (±)-citronellal. It was conducted by preparing monolithic column using monomer glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TMPTMA) as crosslinker, 1-propanol, 1,4-butanediol, and water as pore-forming agents (porogens) in the presence of α,α'-azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as radical initiator inside polyetheretherketone (PEEK) tubing. It was then modified with EDA-β-CD synthesized from β-CD. Finally, it was installed as a high-performance liquid chromatography column. The result shows the produced chiral stationary phase column could separate (±)-citronellal at a retention time of 44.76 and 45.71 min.

Abstract

ABSTRACT          The World Health Organization (WHO) recorded as many as 2,299 cases of death with a case percentage of 66% during 2018 to 2020 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo due to the Ebola virus. Ebola virus is a member of the Filoviridae family. One of the viro cores consists of glycoprotein (GP). Messenger RNA (mRNA) generates long GP chains for the attachment protein (GP 1) and the fusion protein (GP 2). Epitope-based vaccines are a promising approach because epitopes represent immunogenic regions that elicit immunity specifically. Epitope prediction was performed based on the GP EBOV sequence available in the Data Bank. The designed vaccine could be one of the candidates for the Ebola virus vaccine. The design of the virus with access to NCBI AAB81004 was carried out by testing such as B cell epitope, T cell, and their antigenicity using the VaxiJen v2.0 server and IEDB. The T cell epitope prediction results showed that 20 T cell epitopes interacted with the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) with the highest score of 2.8069. B cell epitope by linear BepiPred assay had 77 candidate epitope peptides from sequence 401-477. Karplus and Schulz's flexibility predictions showed a predictive value of 1.119 with a threshold of 1.008, with the analyzed area having an antigenic tendency where the threshold area was yellow. Keywords: Ebolavirus; Vaccine; Epitope B Cell; Epitope T Cell; In Silico

Abstract

Semiconductors have conductivity levels between insulators and conductors which can be applied in various fields such as photocatalytic, adsorption, and Dye Sensitizer Solar Cell (DSSC). However, some semiconductors are only active under ultraviolet light, therefore to improve their utilization, modifications are made by producing a hybrid combination of two or more materials or dopping materials. This study aims to obtain a semiconductor material with a low band gap energy from the Fe2O3/TiO2 composite material. Fe2O3/TiO2 composites were synthesized by the solid-state method and characterized by XRD, SEM-EDX, and UV-Vis. The characterization using XRD showed the peak intensity of TiO2 and Fe2O3. The morphology of the material obtained using SEM-EDX showed an even distribution of particle size, as well as the distribution of Ti, Fe, and O elements. The optical properties of the composite showed strong absorbance in the UV region for higher TiO2 compositions. On the other hand, composite materials with a higher Fe2O3 composition showed stronger absorbance in the visible light region.

Abstract

The Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, commonly known as maggot, have gained attention as an alternative source of protein for animal feed. Nutrition is a crucial factor in the growth of BSF larvae, and different organic materials have varying nutritional contents. This study aims to investigate the effect of different types and combinations of organic materials on the growth of BSF maggot and to determine the optimal type and combination for their growth. The results of the study indicate that a combination of rice bran and fruit/vegetable waste (50:50) provides the best growth for BSF maggot with an average weight of 454 g. A combination of rice bran and tofu dregs (50:50) yields a growth rate of 447 g, and chicken manure (100%) yields a growth rate of 435 g. These findings can serve as a reference for the development of alternative maggot-based feed in the livestock industry.

Abstract

Water is a vital necessity for human and living things in general. It is undeniable that the decline in water quality today is the result of human activities that overexploit the environment. People's lifestyles that pay less attention to environmental aspects such as throwing garbage out of place, disposing of hazardous waste, and changing the function of forest areas that can increase the potential for erosion and often cause sedimentation at the bottom of the waters have a negative impact both directly and indirectly on the natural environment, especially water sources. High rate of forest degradation and deforestation has a significant impact on changes and decreases in water quality. In this study, water quality monitoring was conducted using several parameters as an initial step to understand the condition at the Dam and Clean Water Facility in Banturung Village, Bukit Batu District, Palangka Raya City. The results obtained from the analyzed parameters include odorless, pH 5.9, turbidity 1.0 NTU, temperature 28.1 °C, color 3.63 TCU, total dissolved solids (TDS) 10.2 mg/L, nitrate (NO3-) 0.608 mg/L, nitrite (NO2-) 0.002 mg/L, iron (Fe) 0.038 mg/L, and manganese (Mn) 0.006 mg/L.
