Abstract

Language is one of human communication cues that have an important role in daily life- today. The term of Sociolinguistics is a developing branch of linguistics and sociology which investigates the individual and social variation of language. Just as regional variation of language can give a lot of information about the place the speaker is from, social variation tells about the roles performed by a given speaker within one community, or country. Sociolinguistics is also a branch of sociology in that it reveals the relationship between language use and the social basis for such use. Sociolinguistics differs from sociology of language in that the focus of sociolinguistics is the effect of the society on the language, while the latter's focus is on the language's effect on the society. The data were grouped based on their characteristic. After that the theory from the source book were used to analyze the data. Especially for the data of Indonesian slang word was categorized based on its concepts whether it has the same or not in both the source language and the target language based on the theory. Conducting similar study in the related field or a study with improvement in the methods used in the present research.

Abstract

Teaching vocabulary at elementary school is not easy. In many stages the students’ interest in learning English is usually spontaneous. Teaching vocabulary to elementary schools, the teacher should and can make the students relax and interested, so they will be happy to learn it. If they feel happy, they will arouse their inner motivation. The problems which will be investigated in this study are formulated as follows: (1) What are the features of vocabulary taught to the first grade students of elementary level? (2) Is there any significant difference between the acquisition of vocabulary by the students who are taught using card games and the students taught conventionally? The teachers use games as their teaching aid. The students really appreciate any kind of game activities which provide excitement and fun. It will be easy to understand and practice English. The researcher chooses games as the simple illustrated media to facilitate students’ method of learning, as children learn while playing games. It is easy to be understood and comprehended by students. The subjects of the study who are grouped into two classes, each of the classes contains 30 students who means that the subjects of the study are 60 students. They have the same ability of the knowledge. The writer uses standardized test, It consist of 25 items with the allocated time of 60 minutes for pre-test and post test. The writer involves two classes. The total number of the first grade students are 60, 30 students belong to A class and the other 30 students belong to B class. In this study, A class is choosen for the experimental group, and B class for the control group, the writer use T-test, The test is to find out students achievement in a process without using card games and the second test is used to find out the differences, the writer calculate the correlation among them by using T-test formula. To calculate the data, the researcher uses spss program. The data analysis above is description that t-test is 2.676 and degree of freedom ( df ) = (60-1-1)=58 at standard significant 0,05. So t-table is 2.002 from the data can take conclusion that t-test >. t-table (2.676 > 2.002) . Based on the result, Ho is refused because t-test > t-table means that there is influence or significant differences.

Abstract

Butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea L.) has been widely used as a healthy drink as well as traditional medicine. This study aimed to test the antioxidant activity of C. ternatea aqueous extract based on its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation (in vitro) using different parts and extraction methods. Extraction was carried out on flowers, leaves, and roots. The leaves and roots were extracted by boiling technique. Flowers were extracted in 3 ways: boiling, maceration, and brewing. Antioxidant activity was determined based on phenolic content, flavonoid content, and antioxidant test using the TBA method. The highest phenolic and flavonoid levels were shown by the aqueous extract of C. ternatea leave of 57.51 mg GAE/g and 1.50 mg EK/g, respectively. The highest levels of flavonoid were from flower parts treated with boiling technique (0.88 mg EK/g), followed by brewed flowers and macerated flowers. The highest antioxidant activity was obtained from flowers that were boiled for 30 minutes with a percentage inhibition of 94%. Based on the method of extraction and part of the plant, all extracts of C. ternatea have similar antioxidant potential.

Abstract

The potential of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus), BSF) maggots as the source of biopharmaca, has not been extensively studied. This research aimed to identify bioactive compunds in BSF maggot extract that potentially activate antioxidant signaling mechanism. BSF maggots fed with vegetable waste were extracted based on maceration method with water, methanol, and acetone as solvents. Forty bioactive compounds were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry: 15 were in the aqueous extract, 13 were from methanolic extract, and 12 were in the acetone extract. Most of those compounds (90%) were having high bioavailability score (= 0.55 or more) and relatively low toxicity (500 mg/Kg<LD50<5000mg/Kg BW). Molecular docking predicted that there were 26 bioactive compounds potential to activate cellular antioxidant signaling through activation of NRF2 transcription factor, better than the commercial NRF2 activator. The aqueous extract compound with PubChem CID: 73775828 was the best one that inhibited NRF2 signaling by binding to Keap-1 protein (PDB ID: 6FFM) with Gibbs free energy (ΔG) = -6.08 Kcal/mol and dissociation constant (Kd) = 3.58 í— 10-5 µM. Whereas inhibition of inflammation via NF-kappa B signaling was shown by an aqueous extract compound verpacamide A which bound inhibitor NF-kappa B kinase (IKK2) (PDB ID: 4KIK) with ΔG = -5.024 kcal/mol; Kd = 0.207 í— 103 µM. This potency was better than that of aspirin. In conclusion, BSF maggot extracts are source of biopharmaca with potential cellular antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.
