Abstract

Even though millennials have begun to utilize social media platforms to learn and explore religion, some of them still join tarekat. This article will explain the factors why some millennials join the Sammaniyah tarekat and what practices they practice in the tarekat. This study uses a qualitative approach that relies on data sources from observations and interviews with the murshid of the Sammaniyah tarekat and several millennials who are followers in West Pasaman Regency. The results of the study show that the motivations for millennials to join the Sammaniyah order include deepening religious knowledge with the guidance of the teacher/mursyid, seeking peace in life, and seeking the true nature of faith. For millennials and all congregations of the Sammaniyah order, there are several practices that must be followed, first, the practices carried out before becoming a student of the Sammaniyah order include conducting muzakarah with the murshid of the Sammaniyah order, taking a repentance bath and praying sunnah repentance, saying the pledge and staying in the Sammaniyah order surau for several days. The second practice after becoming a student of the Sammaniyah tarekat, including performing fardu prayers and increasing dhikr, both dhikr jahar and dhikr khofi. In addition to carrying out core practice activities, Sammaniyah tarekat students also have an agenda of other activities such as performing Friday prayers in congregation at the Sammaniyah tarekat surau, eating together on Fridays, gathering together in the recruitment of new congregants, conducting recitations and gatherings on other Islamic holidays.

Abstract

The varying perspectives held by Indonesian society often lead to conflicts between religious groups, particularly when one group believes that safety and truth are exclusive to its membership. It is possible to address this issue by deeply studying Islam and adopting a moderation and tolerance mindset. The Islamic concept of moderation is known as rahmatan lil alamin. Islam's spiritual underpinnings ensure global peace, harmony, and fraternity among all peoples. A shallow understanding of religion causes people to act towards extremes, believing that they are right and others are wrong. The results of this research show that kalam science can be a means of contributing to a person's actions and behaviour in understanding and realising the sense of diversity that is khilafiah, and give birth to a moderate attitude so that Kalam Science can present a context and paradigm for religious moderation, and not be quick to place blame on others. This is because a person with a deeper understanding of religion (theology) is more knowledgeable of societal inequalities in both the religious and social domains.

Abstract

This research aims to comprehend the concept of moderation in Islamic preaching and Christian missions. The research has three objectives: firstly, to uncover the practice of moderation in Islamic preaching; secondly, to elucidate the manifestation of moderation in Christian missions; and thirdly, to analyze the similarities and differences between moderation in Islamic preaching and Christian missions. Employing a qualitative text-based research method with a literature review approach, the study is conducted on social media platforms by searching for articles from relevant journals. The data sources consist of secondary data collected from literature obtained from journals related to the research problem. Data collection involves searching for journals browsed on portals such as Garuda, Moraref, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and the National Library. Data analysis encompasses data reduction, data classification, data presentation, and data interpretation. The results reveal that the concept of moderation in Islamic preaching facilitates the peaceful and tolerant delivery of preaching invitations with openness to all religious differences. Essentially, moderation in Christian missions aims to prevent extreme, radical, and excessive attitudes in practicing Christian teachings. Additionally, it embraces all religious diversity within Christianity. This research concludes that moderation in Islamic preaching promotes balanced preaching delivery, fostering mutual respect among Muslims. Meanwhile, moderation in Christian missions requires an open-minded approach that embraces all religious differences within Christianity.

Abstract

Several authors of journal articles discuss Surah al-Nūr verses 11-20 related to the ifki hadith. The author considers that some of these articles are strongly influenced by Abdullah Saeed's theory because there are aspects of the Qur'an's linguistic and historical context, both micro and macro, as well as contemporary contexts. In this theory there is the story of 'Aisyah r.a. that was slandered at the time of the Prophet known as the ifki hadith which was later enshrined in Surah al-Nūr verses 11-20. The purpose of this study is to elaborate on the extent to which the authors of the article contextualize surah al-Nūr verses 11-20. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with library research. The theory used in this study is Abdullah Saeed's theory with a contextual approach. The findings of this study are that in general, the articles that study Surah al-Nūr verses 11-20 have fulfilled the theory put forward by Abdullah Saeed. One of the articles that fulfill Abdullah Saeed's contextual interpretation is the article written by 'Ayun Masfufah that this article takes the past context and then relates it to the current context.

Abstract

Or.Id. Or.Id. Sedangkan Muslim.

Abstract

This research aims to find the phenomenon of Muslim life that is still carried out in daily life because of ancestral customs that are still inherent and thick in the Mentawai community. The research method used in this study is qualitative using a descriptive analysis approach. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview technique with open-ended questions. This technique is used to give the informant the freedom to answer according to their understanding, knowledge, and experience. The collected data was then analyzed using qualitative data analysis of the Miles and Huberman technique through three stages, namely data reduction, data exposure, and conclusion drawing and verification. This research found the patterns or thought events of Mentawai Muslims that are still influenced by ancestral culture. The results of the above study show that there is a cultural syncretism between Islamic teachings and local customs that form unique characteristics in the religious practices of the Mentawai people. This is reflected in the rituals, traditions, and social norms that are carried out, which at the same time strengthen the cultural identity as well as the faith of Muslims in the region. These findings make an important contribution to understanding the dynamics of the relationship between religion and culture in the context of indigenous peoples, as well as their implications for the preservation of cultural heritage

Abstract

Da’wah strategies continue to evolve in collaboration with societal trends and receptivity. A dissonance between societal developments and the methods of religious propagation may result in the rejection of religious messages and strained interactions between majority and minority groups. Therefore, a more contextualized approach is required to enhance the effectiveness of da’wah. This study explored dramaturgical da’wah as a strategic framework employed by religious communicators to convey religious messages through frontstage and backstage performances. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, data were collected through interviews and observations of Muslim minority preachers on Nias Island. The findings demonstrated that da’wah practices were implemented by following dramaturgical principles, engaging audiences differently across stages. The success of this strategy was influenced by segmented communication methods, cultural adaptation to local traditions, and the portrayal of Islam as peaceful and open to interfaith dialogue. This approach contributed to fostering interreligious harmony and sustaining the presence of Muslim minorities in Nias. The study offers a novel perspective, highlighting that the development of da’wah strategies must consider the field of experience, particularly in regions where Muslims are a minority.

Abstract

This article challenges the claims that assert that Indonesian Muslims are fundamentally conservative, if not fundamentalist, in nature. The discussion is grounded in a case study of peaceful coexistence between the Muslim Minang Community (KMM) and the Christian Nias Community (KKN) over several centuries in Padang Pariaman. To obtain this perspective, this study centres on evidence from customary land agreements between the two communities, reinforced by observations and interviews with traditional and religious figures from both communities between 2017 and 2018. Among the most significant findings is that KMM has developed a concept of land management rights (ulayat nagari) that differs from state-controlled management. The management of ulayat nagari land not only places emphasis on economic access but also opens up various social and even religious concessions. Through the concessions of 1927 and 1928, KKN gained rights to the ownership of ulayat nagari land, recognition of their village head (penghulu), and adherence to the customs of KKN. Furthermore, two KKN churches stand on this ulayat nagari land as symbols of religious freedom.
