Abstract

AbstractBrown-palm-sugar agroindustry in Kolaka is an industrial model that tends to have a simple character for moldable sugar processing. Moldable brown palm sugar is produced by processing of unfermented palm-juice. Its processing into brown-palm-sugar can provide additional value as reward for the usage of production factors. The additional value is multiplier effect that occurs in an agroindustrial activity. The strategical role of agroindustry that relies on increasing of the additional value of domestic natural resource potency is believed to be capable of supporting in national competitive improvement. This study is objected (1) to recognize the additional-valuable amount in processing unfermented palm-juice into brown palm sugar; (2) to determine the influence factors in brown-palm-sugar additional value. Additional value analysis which was using hayami method demonstrates that the additional value whose craftsmen of unfermented-palm-juice into brown-palm-sugar process received is 696.51 rupiahs per kilogram. The other input prices (such as the price of palm oil, lime price and firewood) and labor costs significantly and negatively effected on the additional value, while the output price significantly and positively effected. And then, the price of unfermented palm-juice unsignificantly effect on the additional value. Keywords: agroindustry; brown palm sugar; additional value

Abstract

The purposes of this study was to identify the condition of agricultural labor; know the causes, impacts and strategies to reduce the shift of the youth labor from agricultural to non-agricultural sector. This research was conducted in Bantul, Gunungkidul, Kulon Progo and Sleman regency in 2015. The results showed that the number of households and agricultural enterprises in DIY decrease. The participation of youth in agricultural sector had been decline and the age of agricultural labor DIY was dominated by the farmers over 60 years. Factors which push the shift of the youth from agricultural to non-agricultural was the bigger income on non-agricultural sector, negative image of agriculture, increase of education, narrow land ownership and ease of rural accessibility. While the factors of pull the youth was financial, parental inheritance and government incentives. The impacts of this condition was decrease of the effectiveness and efficiency of agriculture; the scarcity of agricultural labor and increase of the wage. To overcome this, it is necessary to increase the role of youth in the farmers' institutions; introduction of agriculture through early childhood education; improve the quality of agricultural actors; develope integrated agriculture; strengthen cooperative farming; agricultural insurance and marketing guarantees.

Abstract

Land ownership, technical and environmental efficiency are interrelated aspects one another which influences the sustainability of farming. This study aims to estimate the impact of land ownership on the technical and environmental efficiency of wetland rice farming in the Rokan Hulu Regency. Data obtained from interviews with 100 farm households, and analyzed using the translog stochastic frontier production function estimated by the maximum likelihood method. This production function includes conventional and detrimental input (Nitrogen). The results showed that the average technical efficiency of farming was 84.8%. Meaning that farmers can increase their technical efficiency by 15.2%. While the average of environmental efficiency is 23.7%. It is recommended to farmers to reduce their detrimental inputs by 76.3%. The technical efficiency of landowners was lower than the tenant or sharing farmers. Otherwise, the environmental efficiency of landowners higher than tenant or sharing farmers.

Abstract

Food security has three subsystems namely food availability, food access and food utilization. To reduce poverty and to improve food security, Yogyakarta City implements food barn program. This research was conducted in food barns village and non food barns villages in Seyegan District. Samples were taken, namely the household of farmers as much as 100 respondents. Sampling was done by a random sampling method. Using cross classification analysis between food expenditure share (PPP) and energy adequacy rate (AKE) to determine the level of food security and using the method of Logit Ordered Model to see the influence of the status of food barns against food security opportunities for farm households. The result showed that food barns in foodresistant state was 58%, vulnerable to food was 8%, less food 9% and foodprone to 4%, while non food barns villages showed food-resistant state 56%, food vulnerable 5%, less food 6 % and food prone 11%. Food security opportunities for food-resistant farmers in food barns village are higher than the village of food barns. The results of the analysis using ordinal logit method showed that the price of tempe and tofu, household income, the number of household members and dummy village status, affects the opportunity of food security farmers ' households.

Abstract

Smallholder oil palm plantations in Riau have reached their economic age (25 years), resulting in decreased plantation productivity. One alternative to overcome this problem is oil palm rejuvenation (OPR). In implementing oil palm rejuvenation, there are two prominent partner institutions, the Village Unit Cooperative (VUC) and the Nucleus Estate-Smallholding (NES). As the main actors, farmers are in the position to choose partner institutions for oil palm rejuvenation. The purpose of this study was to find out the differences between the oil palm rejuvenation technology packages carried out by VUC and NES, and to identify the factors that influence farmers' decisions in choosing an oil palm rejuvenation partner institution. This research was conducted in the Kerinci Kanan District, Siak Regency. The data analysis used was descriptive and binary logistic regression. The technology packages carried out by VUC and NES partners have several differences, including types of seeds, number of plants per hectare, spacing, production potential, BPDPKS support, amount of interest paid, OPR budget plan, and sources of funds. The factors that influence farmers' decision-making in choosing OPR institutional partners are farmers' perceptions of income, the presence of extension services, and rights and obligations. Counseling plays an important role in establishing partnerships, by transferring technology to farmers so that the technology package implemented can increase the productivity and quality of oil palm. Abstract

The regency of Kulon Progo, located in the western part of Yogyakarta Special Region, owns the lowest ratio of paddy fields relative to arable land, i.e., 0.27%, compared to other regencies in the region. Effective management of paddy farming technology is crucial to enhance productivity. This research aims to describe the management of rice farming technology and to analyze the allocative efficiency of rice production factors in Kulon Progo. The study employs cross-sectional data collected through observations and surveys using an open-ended questionnaire. The sampling method used is proportional stratified random sampling, with a total of 105 respondents, of which 55 from Panjatan Sub-district and 50 from Sentolo Sub-district. Data analysis methods include quantitative descriptive, multiple linear regression with the Cobb-Douglas production function, and calculation of allocative efficiency index (Ki) tested with the one-sample Wilcoxon test. The findings show that the majority of farmers use superior Ciherang seed varieties, insecticides for pest control, and adopt the rice cultivation method known as "jajar legowo". Moreover, a significant number of farmers have not yet adopted combine harvesters due to landscape unsuitability. Key production factors affecting rice output include land area, seed quantity, fertilizer application, farming experience, hybrid variety adoption, technical irrigation use, and combine harvester utilization. Allocative efficiency analysis reveals non-efficient land allocation, suggesting a need for land-use reduction. Meanwhile, seeds and fertilizers use are inefficient, warranting more allocations of these inputs.
