Abstract

This research aims to investigate effectiveness of rice for the poor program (Raskin) in rural and urban Indonesia based on the National Socio Economic Survey data (Susenas) collected by Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) in 2007. Number of sample was 52,370 households. Effectiveness of Raskin Program was measured by target, quantity and price accuracy indexes. Logistic regression model was used to identify factors affecting probability of a household to receive raskin or not. The results of analysis show that raskin distribution was not yet accurately reach the target beneficiaries. Raskin distribution was also not accurate in quantity and price. Quantity accuracy index was 58 percent in rural, 53 percent in urban and 57 percent in Indonesia. Price quantity index was 68 percent in rural, 63 percent in urban and 67 percent in Indonesia. Probability of a household to receive raskin was affected by education, gender, age, household member, income, employment, floor condition and location.

Abstract

This study aims were, first to measure the level of farmers’ willingness to pay the external cost to improve the environment and second, examine the determinant factors. The experiment was conducted in District Sumberjaya and Sekincau, West Lampung District during June-October 2009. Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) was used to answer the first purpose, while ordinal logit regression analysis was used to answer the second purpose. Factors of farmland area, land productivity, household income, educational level, number of family labor, and knowledge of farmers about the benefits of forests had positive influence on WTP while distance of farmers’ house to the forest had negative influence. The increase of WTP was needed to reduce environmental damage due to forest conversion to coffee plantation; moreover, environment improvement hopefully could restore the function of forest where coffee trees were planted.

Abstract

Paddy and maize are two important food crops in Indonesia and mainly produced in Java Island. This research aimed to know the impact of El Nino and La Nina on paddy and maize farmer’s supply in Java. Cross sectional data from four provinces in Java was combined with time series data during 1987-2006. Paddy supply was estimated using log model, while maize supply used autoregressive model; each was estimated using two types of regression function. First, it included dummy variable of El Nino and La Nina to know their influence into paddy and maize supply. Second, Southern Oscillation Index was used to analyze the supply changing when El Nino or La Nina occur. The result showed that El Nino and La Nina did not influence paddy supply, while La Nina influenced maize supply in Java. Maize supply increased when La Nina occurred.

Abstract

AbstractBrown-palm-sugar agroindustry in Kolaka is an industrial model that tends to have a simple character for moldable sugar processing. Moldable brown palm sugar is produced by processing of unfermented palm-juice. Its processing into brown-palm-sugar can provide additional value as reward for the usage of production factors. The additional value is multiplier effect that occurs in an agroindustrial activity. The strategical role of agroindustry that relies on increasing of the additional value of domestic natural resource potency is believed to be capable of supporting in national competitive improvement. This study is objected (1) to recognize the additional-valuable amount in processing unfermented palm-juice into brown palm sugar; (2) to determine the influence factors in brown-palm-sugar additional value. Additional value analysis which was using hayami method demonstrates that the additional value whose craftsmen of unfermented-palm-juice into brown-palm-sugar process received is 696.51 rupiahs per kilogram. The other input prices (such as the price of palm oil, lime price and firewood) and labor costs significantly and negatively effected on the additional value, while the output price significantly and positively effected. And then, the price of unfermented palm-juice unsignificantly effect on the additional value. Keywords: agroindustry; brown palm sugar; additional value

Abstract

Melon is one of high-value horticulture commodity which is cultivated widely in Kulon Progo regency. The nature of agricultural products is heavily dependent on the season, so it causes the prices of agricultural products always fluctuated every time. In wet season the price of agricultural products tends to be more expensive. Melon cultivation in wet season provide an opportunity to earn higher profits than in the dry season. The price of agricultural products tends to be more expensive in wet season, thus melon cultivation in wet season prospectively generate high profits. In order to achieve high profitability, melon farming has to be done efficiently. Objective of this study was to 1) determined the factors that influence melon production in wet season 2) measured technical efficiency of melon farming and 3) identified the factors that influanced technical efficiency. Data collected during April – June 2014. Location determined by multistage cluster sampling. 45 samples of farmers who cultivated melon during wet season obtained based on quota sampling technique. Technical efficiency was measured using Cobb-Douglas Stochastic Frontier. The result reveals that 1) land use, quantity of seed, K fertilizer contributed significantly increasing melon production, while N fertilizer decreased melon production significantly 2) technical efficiency indeces ranged from 0.40 to 0.99, with a mean of  0.77; 3) farmer’s experience gave significant influence to technical efficiency of melon farming in wet season.

Abstract

This study was conducted in Nganjuk Regency in the reason that this region is the second largest shallot production centre in Indonesia after Brebes Regency. Around 40 percent of shallot from Nganjuk are marketed to Jakarta including Kramatjati Central Market of Jakarta (KCMJ), therefore this study aims to determine actor of the shallot supply chain from Nganjuk to Jakarta and identify the type of risk in the shallot supply chain. The respondents were expert from goverment representatives , academician, and actors of the shallot supply chain. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) model was used to identify risk of the shallot supply chain. The result showed that there were seven actors involved in the shallot supply chain from Nganjuk to Jakarta, namely farmer, buyer, wholeseller, bandar, centheng, retailer, and consumer. The AHP model showed that risk of market was the main risk in the shallot supply chain from Nganjuk to Jakarta, following by risk of partnerships and information, and price risk.

Abstract

Efforts to increase productivity of food crops, especially rice by using technology and innovation has been facing problems such as structure of the control and management of agricultural resources. This study aimed to identify the factors of farmer’s structural and managerial characteristics that affect paddy farming efficiency in Sleman. Survey conducted on wetland rice farmers in rural and sub urban areas that represent the condition of the structural and manjerial characteristics that  owned by farmers in Sleman. Analysis of stochastic frontier production function with the inclusion of the inefficiency effects model was conducted to identify determinants of production and the factors that affect the efficiency of farming. The result showed that the structural characteristics that influence the rice farming efficiency are the water irrigation source distance and the farm location, while the managerial characteristics factors are age, income outside the farm, participation in a group, experience and access to credit.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) to identify the forms of institutional and analyze interaction at the institutional organic rice agribusiness; (2) to design the institutional model in organic rice agribusiness. The study was conducted by using descriptive method. Result of the analysis showed that the profile of organic rice agribusiness institutions include: farmers, farmers groups combined Sympathy, organic farmers cooperatives, village cooperatives, private enterprises agro-industry (CV), BPP, NGO, exporters, agro-industry company. The conditions of farmer organizations today are more cultural and mostly just to government facilities, it has not been fully geared to take advantage of economic opportunities through the use of accessibility to information technology, capital and markets necessary for the development of organic rice agribusiness and agricultural businesses. On the other hand, institutional businesses in rural areas, such as the cooperative has not fully accommodate the interests of farmers / farmer groups as a forum for technical guidance. Various farmer institution that already exist such as farmers groups, farmers groups combined, the association of water user farmers are expected on the challenges ahead to revitalize themselves and institutions that currently more dominant just as container technical development and social into institutional also serve as a platform for business development legal entity or can integrate other institutions in the agribusiness chain of organic rice. Model on organic rice agribusiness institution system is based on agribusiness and institutional dimensions as well as the three pillars of the new institutional.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze price behavior, market integration, and leading market of the shallot. This research used producers and consumers monthly price data during 2009-2013. Price behavior was analyzed by coefficient of variation. Shallot market integration was analyzed by Engle-Granger model of co-integration. Granger causality was used to analyzed the leading market. The result show that shallot price behavior at producer and consumer market in Nganjuk during 2009-2013 shows a simillar movement. Shallot price trend to be low occurs on January, June, July, October, and trend to be high on March, April, July. Shallot price fluctuation at producer market is higher than consumer market. When viewing each year high price fluctuation occur on August and October, while the low occur on May, June, and July. Producer and consumer market in Nganjuk already integrated or has a long run relationship, so without intervention of the goverment, market mechanism has been able to do a price adjustment if shallot price upheavals. Market leading of the shallot price in Nganjuk is consumer market.
