Abstract

Sorghum stem bagasse waste is one of the materials with high cellulose content. It can be utilized in glucose production through enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose by Trichoderma viride. This study aims to determine sorghum stem bagasse’s potential in producing glucose, assessing the time and concentration of sorghum stem bagasse in the hydrolysis process to produce glucose optimally and following SNI. Hydrolysis was carried out using a concentration of 5%, 8%, and 11% sorghum stem bagasse for 10, 15, and 20 days. The results showed that sorghum stem bagasse waste could produce glucose with an average glucose yield of 10.09% to 24.40 %. There is a tendency that increasing substrate concentration and hydrolysis time will increase the yield of liquid glucose. The treatment of 5% concentration of sorghum stem bagasse with a long hydrolysis time of 10 days can produce the highest liquid glucose, namely 24.40% with total dissolved solids of 7.40% Brix, the ash content of 0.26%, but 47.54% water content has not met SNI standards.

Abstract

AbstrakSorgum merupakan salah satu komoditas pangan alternatif yang sedang dikembangkan di Indonesia. Desa Kuta Kecamatan Kanatang, Kabupaten Sumba Timur merupakan salah satu wilayah sasaran yang memiliki beranekaragam tanaman sorgum lokal. Tetapi, sorgum menjadi komoditas yang hampir punah seiring dengan kecenderungan masyarakat yang lebih mengutamakan beras padi sebagai sumber pangan utama. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan kembali aneka sorgum lokal sekaligus memberikan informasi tentang pembuatan pupuk organik cair  yang dapat dibuat dari bahan lokal yang terdapat di sekitar lokasi penanaman sorgum. Pupuk organik cair ini berfungsi untuk menunjang kegiatan usaha tani khususnya dalam peningkatan pertumbuhan sorgum. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini yaitu melalui tahap perencanaan, wawancara sepintas dengan metode FGD (Focus Group Discussion), pelaksanaan kegiatan dan evaluasi akhir. Adapun hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah peserta dapat mengenal jenis sorgam lokal serta mampu membuat  pupuk organik cair dan langsung diaplikasikan pada tanaman sorgum. Berdasarkan evaluasi keberhasilan dalam pengamatan 5 HST diperoleh bahwa tanaman sorgum yang diaplikasikan pupuk organik cair berkecambah dan tumbuh lebih subur dibandingkan tanaman tanpa aplikasi pupuk cair. Kata kunci: sorgum lokal ; Sumba ; pengabdian ; pelatihan ; pupuk organik cair AbstractSorghum is an alternative food commodity that is being developed in Indonesia. Kuta Village, Kanatang District, East Sumba Regency is one of the target areas which has a variety of local sorghum plants. However, sorghum is becoming a commodity that is almost extinct in line with the tendency of society to prioritize rice as the main food source. This community service activity aims to reintroduce a variety of local sorghum as well as provide information about making liquid organic fertilizer which can be made from local materials found around the sorghum planting location. This liquid organic fertilizer functions to support farming activities, especially in increasing sorghum growth. The method used in this activity is through the planning stage, cursory interviews using the FGD (Focus Group Discussion) method, implementation of activities and final evaluation. The results of this activity were that participants were able to get to know local types of sorghum and were able to make liquid organic fertilizer and apply it directly to sorghum plants. Based on the evaluation of success in observations after 5 days, it was found that sorghum plants that were applied with liquid organic fertilizer germinated and grew more fertile than plants without the application of liquid fertilizer. Key words: local sorghum; Sumba; devotion; training ; liquid organic fertilizer

Abstract

Dampak banjir bandang pada lahan pertanian di Desa Watupuda, Kecamatan Umalulu. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui sifat tanah dan status kesuburan tanah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode observasi lapangan, metode indeks kesuburan tanah, metode kualitatif deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh yaitu nilai C-organik tanah 0,05% - 4,57%, P-total 12,96 (mg/100g) - 169,03 (mg/100g), K-total 15,79 (me/100g) - 82,98 (me/100g), Kapasitas Tukar Kation 21,24 (me/100g) - 42,26 (me/100g), Kejenuhan Basa 51,96% - 80,53%. Status kesuburan tanah tinggi dengan luas 1561,784 ha, sedang dengan luas 902,528 ha dan rendah dengan luas 963,381 ha. Faktor pembatas kandungan P-total rendah pada satuan unit lahan T9 dan T10. Kandungan K-total tanah rendah pada satuan unit lahan T8, T9 dan T10. Sedangkan C-organik tanah sangat rendah pada satuan unit lahan T8, T9 dan T10. Usaha perbaikan yang dilakukan yaitu menambahkan bahan organik melalui pemupukan dengan kandungan fosfor, kalium dan kandungan karbon.

Abstract

Pelatihan dan Bimbingan Teknis Budidaya Tanaman Hortikultura merupakan bentuk pengabdian dan kerja sama antara Program Studi Agroteknologi dan Agribisnis Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba bersama PPA IO-664 Eben Haezer Mauhau. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk melatih dan membimbing orang tua anak dan anak PPA dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan sistem budidaya tanaman hortikultura, dengan harapan ilmu yang didapatkan dapat membantu memperbaiki perekonomian keluarga. Pelatihan dan Bimbingan Teknis dilaksanakan pada September – Desember 2022. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pelatihan dan bimbingan teknis adalah prinsip pembelajaran orang dewasa. Berdasarkan hasil observasi selama pelatihan dan bimbingan teknis, peserta sangat antusias dan menerapkan hasil belajarnya dengan baik sehingga tujuan dari kegiatan ini dapat terlaksana dengan baik. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari produk yang dihasilkan serta media promosi online yang dilakukan juga memberikan dampak yang positif pada hasil penjualan.

Abstract

Keterbatasan informasi kualitas tanah dan pengelolaannya dalam pengembangan tanaman sorgum di Kelurahan Watumbaka, Kecamatan Pandawai, Kabupaten Sumba Timur. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui kualitas tanah dalam rangka pengembangan tanaman sorgum. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode deskriptif eksploratif dengan pendekatan survey lapangan dan didukung hasil analisis tanah di laboraotrium. Parameter uji yang digunakan yaitu sifat fisik (permeabilitas dan tekstur), kimia tanah (pH tanah, DHL, C-organik, N-total, P-total, K-dd, Ca, Mg, KTK dan kejenuhan basa). Metode penilaian indikator kualitas tanah dengan metode Lal yang dimodifikasi. Hasil diperoleh tanah dengan kisaran permeabilitas 2,34-26,37 cm3/jam, kelas tekstur lempung dan lempung berpasir, kisaran pH 7,51-8,50, kisaran DHL 0,08-0,16 mS, kisaran presentase C-organik 1,59-2,36%, kisaran nilai N-Total 0,23-0,37%, kisaran kejenuhan basa 85,23-87,56%, kisaran P-Total 139,17-228,19mg/100g, kisaran K 0,85-0,98 me/100g, kisaran Ca 24,60-29,71 me/100g, kisaran Mg 1,42-2,94 me/100g dan nilai kisaran KTK 35,44-40,12 me/100g. Hasil penilain kualitas tanah pada lahan pengembangan tanaman Sorgum di Kelurahan Watumbaka secara total berdasarkan indikator kualitas tanah yaitu baik. Faktor pembatas sedang yaitu permeabilitas, tekstur, N-total, Mg, dan C-Organik sedangkan faktor pembatas berat yaitu permeabilitas dan pH tanah. Rekomendasi perbaikan yang dilakukan melalui pemupukan.

Abstract

The availability of nutrients in the soil is also very important whether the soil conditions are low, medium or high. It is important to know the chemical properties of the soil, because they can be used as a basis for determining the type and dose of fertilizer. This research was conducted to determine the effect of land use on the chemical properties of soil in the Wula Waijelu subdistrict, East Sumba Regency. This research was conducted from December 2023 to January 2024. The methods used in this research were survey methods and laboratory analysis. Determining the sampling location was carried out using the purposive sampling method (done deliberately by looking at land use at the research location). The parameters observed were P-total, K-total, base saturation (KB), cation exchange capacity (CEC), pH, C-organic. The results of the research show that land use (rice fields, plantations/gardens, moors/farms and shrubs) does not have a real influence on soil chemical properties such as total P, total K, KB, CEC, pH and C-organic in Wulla Waijelu sub-district, Regency East Sumba. The shrub land use type gave the highest values for P-total (39.44 ppm), K-total (0.73 me/100 g), base saturation (KB) (75.04%). Cation exchange capacity (CEC) with the highest value in field land use, pH in neutral and alkaline conditions while C-organic with the highest value in paddy field use

Abstract

The Mitra Tani Farmer Group is a farmer group in Paranda Village, Wula Waijelu District, East Sumba Regency. Agricultural activities carried out often have problems with plant pests (OPT). The existence of problems regarding OPT can be controlled by using pesticides, one of which is vegetable pesticides. The results of the community service activities showed that the members of the Mitra Tani farmer group finally learned about some local ingredients that could be used as organic pesticides. Local materials that can be used as organic pesticides include gamal leaves, tai kabala leaves (kirinyuh/ Chromolaena odorata L.), anona leaves, neem leaves, papaya leaves, yam iwi (gadung tuber), and soursop leaves. The members are also active in community service and learning activities and play an active role in making organic pesticides.

Abstract

Dry land with a dry climate (LKIK) is suboptimal land that has the potential to be developed. A higher evapotranspiration rate than rainfall characterizes this land, so this land is in a condition of water shortage. One of the areas with LKIK conditions is Wulla Waijelu District, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, which is one of the areas with LKIK conditions. This area has not utilized its land potential because the land's condition, especially the soil's physical properties, has yet to be discovered. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the physical properties of the land so that its use was based on the capabilities of the land. This research was conducted in Wulla Waijelu District in June-August 2023. This research used survey methods and sampling at predetermined points for four land uses. The observation variables are soil texture, permeability, porosity, bulk weight, and field capacity water content. The research results show that the research results provide varying values between land use and observation variables. Soil texture consists of clay, sandy clay, dusty clay, sandy loam, and dusty clay. Permeability criteria are medium, medium to fast, and fast, with soil porosity ranging from 22.8-70.3%. Soil bulk weight is between 0.96-1.6 gr/cm3, with field capacity water content varying from 22.8% to 70.3%.

Abstract

Sorghum is a cereal plant that is very useful, including the seeds can produce flour as a substitute for wheat, the stems produce sap which can be used as sugar and used as animal feed. Sorghum also has considerable potential to be developed in Indonesia because sorghum plants are able to adapt to marginal land because they are tolerant of less fertile soil or critical soil, sorghum plants are relatively resistant to pests and disease. This research aims to determine the response of vegetative growth of sorghum plants to doses of TOP G2 liquid organic fertilizer. This research was conducted at the Wira Wacana Christian University Field Laboratory, Sumba in July – September 2023. This research used 5 treatments with 4 replications. The results of this research were that giving Top G2 liquid organic fertilizer (POC) had a real effect on plant height, giving Top G2 POC on the number of leaves had a real effect, giving Top G2 POC on leaf area had no real effect, giving Top G2 POC on diameter. stems did not have a real effect on stem diameter, giving POC Top G2 on flowering time did not have a real effect on flowering time. The best recommended dosage is in treatment P4=8 ml Poc Top G2+ 992 ml water/plant.

Abstract

Sorgum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) merupakan tanaman serealia yang dikembangkan di Indonesia karena mampu tumbuh di lahan kering. Masalah mendasar dalam pengembangan tanaman sorgum ialah kurangnya pengetahuan dalam penerapan teknologi petani dalam budidaya tanaman sorgum dan kondisi saat ini juga ketersediaan beras semakin berkurang, maka perlu pengembangan kembali tanaman sorgum sebagai komoditas pangan alternatif dan sorgum juga sangat cocok di wilayah Sumba Timur karena di kenal sebagai musim kemarau panjang dari pada musim penghujan yang sedikit sehingga menyebabkan suhu udara semakin tinggi sehingga penguapan dari badan tanah meningkat sehingga tanaman sorgum mengalami kekurangan air akibat dari tinggi penguapan (evaporasi) tersebut . Oleh karena itu, dilakukan modifikasi lahan untuk menjaga kelembapan tanah, menahan laju penguapan dan kadar air tanah melalui penggunaan mulsa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian jenis mulsa terhadap pertumbuhan vegetatif tanaman sorgum (sorghum bicolor L. Moench). Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 4 kali ulangan. hasil penelitian, menunjukkan bahwa pemberian mulsa dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan, jumlah daun, Panjang daun dan diameter batang, berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan. Perlakuan terbaik yang direkomendasikan yaitu mulsa jerami padi.
