Abstract

Background: Empirical legal research methods have gained increasing significance in legal scholarship, offering insights into the real-world application and outcomes of laws. In Indonesia, the use of these methods remains relatively underexplored despite the growing need for evidence-based policy and legal reforms. Legal research in Indonesia has traditionally relied on doctrinal methods, but empirical approaches have the potential to enhance the understanding of how legal systems function in practice and how laws impact society. Objective: This study aims to explore the applications of empirical legal research methods in legal research in Indonesia. The research focuses on examining how these methods can be effectively implemented in the context of Indonesian legal research to address pressing legal issues and improve the legal system's overall effectiveness. Method: A qualitative research design was employed, combining a review of existing literature, case studies, and interviews with legal scholars, practitioners, and policymakers. The study also analyzed existing empirical research on legal issues in Indonesia to identify current trends and gaps in research. Results: The findings suggest that empirical methods, such as surveys, interviews, and case studies, are increasingly being adopted in Indonesian legal research, though challenges remain in terms of resources, training, and institutional support. Conclusion: Empirical legal research holds significant potential for advancing legal scholarship in Indonesia. There is a need for greater integration of these methods to enhance the quality and relevance of legal research and inform legal reforms.

Abstract

The rapid transformation in the demands of 21st-century competencies requires a shift in learning paradigms, particularly in non-formal education settings where learner autonomy and lifelong learning are central. Heutagogy, or self-determined learning, offers a promising approach to empower learners in community-based contexts. This study aims to explore the adoption of heutagogical principles in Community Learning Centers (CLCs) through a participatory action research (PAR) framework. The research was conducted in three CLCs across rural and urban areas, involving facilitators, learners, and community stakeholders as co-researchers. Data were collected through focus group discussions, reflective journals, and participatory observations over three action cycles. The findings reveal that implementing heutagogy in non-formal education fosters increased learner autonomy, critical reflection, and contextualized learning practices. Moreover, facilitators’ roles evolved from knowledge transmitters to learning partners, enhancing collaborative dynamics within the CLCs. The study concludes that heutagogy is not only feasible but also transformative in non-formal education, particularly when implemented through participatory and context-responsive strategies. This research contributes to expanding heutagogical practices beyond formal institutions and supports the development of learner-centered, adaptive educational models in marginalized communities.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of digital learning environments on student engagement and academic performance in higher education. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to explore how digital tools influence learning experiences. A survey of 300 students revealed a significant positive correlation between digital tool usage and student engagement levels, with 78% of respondents indicating that these tools enhanced their learning experience. In-depth interviews with 20 educators highlighted the benefits of technology in fostering collaboration and community, while also noting challenges related to access and digital literacy. The study concludes that while digital learning environments enhance educational outcomes, addressing disparities in access and providing training for educators is crucial for maximizing their effectiveness. Future research should focus on long-term impacts and strategies to ensure equitable access to digital resources.

Abstract

Early adulthood ranges from 20-40 years. One of the important developmental tasks for early adults is having intimate relationships, (papalia, d.e., old, s. w.,& feldman, 2008) That is why many adult women are often trapped in romantic relationships with men that will either end happily or end in misery depending on what hopes or expectations underlie and motivate women's relationships in the early adult stages. According to most women, love will fail if someone does not try to actively develop their entire personality until they reach a productive orientation: that the fulfillment of one's love cannot be achieved without the ability to love other people, without humility and determination, as well as confidence and discipline. While adult women believe that love is just a matter of luck, something that will come if someone is lucky, but that does not mean that adults think love is not important. Hungry for it, women entering adulthood often watch films and read countless stories about the romantic love of couples. Both those that will have a happy ending and those that will have a tragic ending. That's the reason why researchers studied whether hope changes the way adult women view love.

Abstract

Trust is an important aspect of early childhood social and emotional development, which is formed through interactions with authority figures such as parents and educators. However, lies told by adults, whether with protective or disciplinary intentions, can affect children's trust. This study analyzes the impact of lies on early childhood trust in adults through a literature review. Using literature analysis from various sources, this study found that lies, especially if repeated, can damage children's trust, hinder the formation of healthy emotional relationships, and affect children's ability to distinguish between honesty and lies. In addition, the type of lie has different impacts; lies with good intentions can produce milder effects than lies for personal gain. Long-term impacts include the tendency for children to imitate lying behavior and impaired social development. This study recommends the importance of honest communication by parents and educators to build strong children's trust, as well as the need for further studies to explore other factors, such as culture and parenting, that can moderate the relationship between lies and trust. These findings are expected to contribute to developmental psychology and become practical guidelines in supporting the formation of children's trust without using lies.

Abstract

Background. The background of this research is based on a long debate between dualism, which separates the mind as a non-physical entity, and materialism, which sees full consciousness as the result of physical processes in the brain. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to explore an integrative approach that tries to bring these two views together to provide a more comprehensive understanding of consciousness.    Method. The research method used is a qualitative approach with in-depth literature analysis, involving the thoughts of leading philosophers and neuroscientists. Results. The results show that the integrative approach has the potential to explain the subjective and physical aspects of consciousness simultaneously, without having to set aside one perspective. Conclusion. The conclusion of this study suggests that mind-body problems require a more cross-disciplinary and inclusive approach, which is able to bridge the gap between philosophy and neuroscience. These findings pave the way for more applicable follow-up research to test the validity of integrative approaches in a variety of practical contexts.

Abstract

Forest-based industries play a crucial role in the economies of Southeast Asia, particularly in rural development. The region is rich in forest resources, which have long been a source of livelihood for many rural communities. However, there is growing concern about the sustainability of these industries, with deforestation and environmental degradation posing challenges to long-term economic development. Understanding the link between forest-based industries and rural development is vital for promoting sustainable practices that benefit both the economy and the environment. This study aims to explore the relationship between forest-based industries and rural development in Southeast Asia, focusing on the economic, social, and environmental impacts. The research seeks to assess how these industries contribute to rural livelihoods, economic growth, and sustainability while addressing the challenges posed by deforestation and unsustainable practices. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining qualitative interviews with stakeholders, including industry representatives, government officials, and rural communities, with quantitative data on economic indicators from forest-based industries in several Southeast Asian countries. The study also includes a comparative analysis of case studies from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The study finds that forest-based industries contribute significantly to rural economic growth, providing employment opportunities and improving infrastructure. However, unsustainable logging practices and weak enforcement of environmental regulations have led to environmental degradation and social inequalities. The research concludes that while forest-based industries have the potential to support rural development, their sustainability depends on the adoption of responsible management practices and stronger governance structures.
