Abstract

For mainstream media, the outbreak of Covid-19 hit them hard as it complicates the existing challenges. The mainstream media have to deal with the Covid-19 effect, and at the same time must strive to survive online media attacks. This study aims to find out the relationship patterns, work processes, and effects of journalistic work among women journalists in mainstream media. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological strategy.  Data was collected through in-depth interviews. Observations were also carried out to enrich the data. The results of this study can be constructed into three categories, namely relationship pattern, work process, and effect of journalistic work. This study conclude that patterns of relationships between mainstream media women journalists and their news sources are developed based on the principles of professionalism, idealism, and neutrality. The work process of women journalists consists of finding, collecting, processing, and publishing activities. The effects of journalistic work created by mainstream media women journalists occur in the form of praise, complaints, insults, and intimidation from news sources or the public.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Buya Yahya's da'wah strategies through social media platforms YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram by focusing on the integration of communication patterns, audience interaction, and the overall effectiveness of da'wah in the digital age. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis and interview techniques. The findings reveal that Buya Yahya's da'wah across these three platforms adapts to the technical logic and user culture of each medium. YouTube is utilized for delivering in-depth and educational lectures, Facebook is optimized for interactive engagement and real-time responses to contemporary issues, while Instagram targets younger audiences with short, emotive, and visually driven messages. The discussion draws on the theoretical frameworks of Hypermediated Religion and Platformization of Religion, which emphasize that digital da'wah is not merely disseminated through various media, but also mediated and reshaped through user interactions and platform algorithms. The study concludes that Buya Yahya’s approach successfully integrates cross-platform da'wah strategies that are both participatory and adaptive to the needs of digital religious communities. This research offers both theoretical and practical contributions to the development of contemporary digital da'wah models that are not only communicative but also transformative in fostering contextual religious awareness.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of women in Ustadz Adi Hidayat’s (UAH) sermons on YouTube, to analyze how such discourse is produced and reproduced within the socio-cultural context of Indonesia, and to identify its ideological implications for the understanding of gender equality in Islam. Employing Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, the research explores three major themes: education and gender identity, women’s socio-economic roles, and historical figures as role models. The data were collected from UAH’s YouTube sermons, including both full-length lectures and viral short clips. The findings reveal that women’s representation is ambivalent: women are glorified, yet such glorification is bounded by normative constraints that tie them to domestic and spiritual roles. The discourse is produced within Indonesia’s patriarchal culture and reproduced through the algorithmic logic of social media that amplifies normative messages. Its ideological implication is the reinforcement of a new form of patriarchy termed affirmative patriarchy, a mechanism of control that works not through rejection, but through conditional recognition and symbolic praise. The main challenge of this research lies in its limited scope, focusing solely on UAH’s sermons, and in its methodological constraint of not examining audience reception. Practically, this study recommends promoting digital religious literacy and developing more egalitarian preaching strategies. This research proposes the concept of affirmative patriarchy, which extends the study of gender discourse in digital Islam and enriches critical discourse analysis within the field of religion and gender studies.
