Abstract

Bananas are tropical fruit commodities that are very popular and have a high potential to be managed intensively and agribusiness oriented. Banana plants have many benefits for human needs so that they have high economic value. Bananas can play a role as food substitutes containing calories, protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals that are needed by the human body. The potential development of bananas is quite significant because it has broad adaptability to various agro-climate zones and has excellent potential for commercial growth as an export commodity. The market potential abroad is enormous and continues to increase. The domestic market's potential also increased due to rising levels of income and quality of life. There are many obstacles to increasing domestic banana production. Besides, processed banana products have not optimally produced as a source of livelihood and community income. This PKM partner business group has prospective business potential to be developed, because the banana and processed banana-based market is enormous, both at local and national levels. The banana production business that has developed has not been economically productive due to various limitations and constraints on land availability. In such conditions, bananas have cultivated as inserted plants. However, these two farmer groups have the potential to be productive farmer groups. The introduction of shade-tolerant bananas can be a solution for increasing banana production on limited land through the intercropping system. While the introduction of improvements to the processing and packaging system of Dempok bananas can improve the added value and quality of the products produced

Abstract

This PKMI activity will apply POP technology (organic plus fertilizer) which is environmentally friendly in the community living in Wakadia Village, Muna Regency, both non-productive and productive communities in the agricultural sector. Wakadia village is an agricultural area with land conditions that continue to grow vegetables throughout the year using chemical fertilizers so that this will have an impact on decreasing the condition of soil nutrients and have an impact on the health of the people of Wakadia village. In this New Normal era, healthy and nutritious nutrition is urgently needed to increase the resistance or immunity of the local community, so that to fulfill this nutrition organic vegetables that are free of chemicals are needed. Therefore, POP technology is needed to improve the quality of soil nutrients, increase production and obtain organic vegetable crops. In the village of Wakadia there are also many agricultural wastes and livestock manure that are abundant but have not been optimally processed so that they do not provide added value to the village community, so PKMI activities must be carried out to improve environmental conditions that have been polluted due to the use of chemical fertilizers, and also can increase the income of the local community by utilizing existing waste to be used as organic fertilizer. Where organic fertilizer has a higher price than livestock manure that has not been processed. Thus, the solution offered in this PKMI activity is the application of technology in changing the use of chemical fertilizers with the use of POP technology so that farming land is even more productive. The forms of technology applied to the community in this service are (1) technology for making organic fertilizer plus (2) technology for packaging organic fertilizer plus (3) technology for marketing horticultural crops through online media (Facebook and Watshap).

Abstract

Abstract

Sawapudo Village, known for its unique coastal features including beaches, karst cliffs, and mangrove vegetation, holds tourism potential. However, a lack of wise management has led to degradation, including mangrove loss and over-exploitation of rare species. Community involvement is crucial for sustainable management. Through Integrated Thematic Community Services in July-August 2019, efforts were made to address these issues. The activities aimed to educate the community on tourism village management, improve local skills in souvenir making, and enhance digital presence through website creation and social media management. Proposed solutions included institutional strengthening, greening tourism spots, promoting IT-based tourism, producing eco-friendly souvenirs, and establishing a village website. These initiatives aim to boost the local economy and position Sawapudo as a natural tourism destination.

Abstract

Abstract. Sadimantara GR, Yusuf DN, Febrianti E, Leomo S, Muhidin. 2021. The performance of agronomic traits, genetic variability, and correlation studies for yield and its components in some red rice (Oryza sativa) promising lines. Biodiversitas 22: 3994-4001. Improving a new variety commonly depends on the nature and magnitude of genetic variability and its utilization, followed by selection and evaluation before being released into new superior types. The present study aims to estimate the genetic variability and relation between yield and its related traits of the red rice promising lines. The experiment was arranged based on a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among rice lines for 12 quantitative traits. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) value was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV), indicating a negligible environmental influence in the phenotypic expression of traits. High heritability estimates coupled with high genetic advance were recorded for grain total per panicle and grain yield per hill. Grain yield observed a highly significant positive correlation with panicle length (0.63), percentage of filled grains (0.53), grain weight per panicle (0.54), and thousand-grain weight (0.52). It correlated negatively with days to 50% flowering (-0.61) and days to maturity (-0.48). The study indicated that panicle length, percentage of filled grains, grain weight per panicle, and thousand-grain weight are important yield-related traits and could be used for selection to improve the genetic potential of rice yield.

Abstract

Abstract. Alam S, Ginting S, Hemon MT, Leomo S, Kilowasid LMH, Karim J, Nugroho Y, Matatula J, Wirabuana PYAP. 2022. Influence of land cover types on soil quality and carbon storage in Moramo Education Estate, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 4371-4376. This study investigated the influence of different land cover types on soil quality and carbon storage in Moramo Education Estate (MEE). Information is required as fundamental consideration to determine the best landscape management strategies for supporting soil conservation and climate change mitigation. Data were collected from three types of land cover generally found in this area, including forests, shrubs, and savannas. Three permanent sampling plots were randomly placed in every land cover as replicates with a size of 20 m × 20 m. Six parameters were used to describe the soil quality, i.e., soil acidity, soil organic carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, exchangeable potassium, and cation exchange capacity. The above and belowground carbon storage from every plot was quantified. The soil quality and carbon storage among land cover types were compared using analysis of variance and Tukey’s honestly significant difference. Pearson’s correlation analysis was also applied to evaluate the relationship between soil quality and carbon storage. The results show that soil quality significantly differed in the exchangeable potassium and cation exchange capacity. A similar trend was also demonstrated in aboveground carbon storage. The highest average carbon storage was recorded in forests (150.50 ± 27.79 t ha?1), followed by shrubs (52.50 ± 15.02 t ha?1) and savannas (45.97 ± 4.42 t ha?1). The total carbon storage at different land covers was significantly correlated to soil acidity, available phosphorus, and cation exchange capacity. Carbon storage improved with the increased available phosphorus and cation exchange capacity. In contrast, carbon storage was negatively correlated with soil acidity. Overall, the land cover types significantly influenced soil quality and carbon storage in MEE.
