Abstract

This paper aims at investigating the meaning of “to bring” in Ciacia language based on the Natural Semantics Metalanguage (NSM) theory, an approach to investigate various forms, structure, and meaning as the whole with the principle of “one form for one meaning and one meaning for one form”. The data were collected through interview and note taking techniques. The result of this study shows that meaning of “to bring” in Ciacia can be expressed by a number of lexicons. Each form has certain or distinctive meaning. First is suu meaning ‘to bring something by putting on head’; second are tongku and lemba meaning ‘to bring something by putting on shoulder’; third is temba meaning ‘to bring something by putting on chest’; fourth lexicon are solo/rongo meaning ‘to bring something by putting on the back’; fifth are bimbi and sele meaning ‘to bring something by putting on waist’; and lastly ntai, kopo, and tape meaning ‘to bring something by putting on finger’.
