Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the sustainability of hydroponic farming in Kendari City. The research sample consists of the entire population of hydroponic farmers in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, totaling 30 people (sampling method: census). The data analysis in this study utilizes descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics are employed to delineate and characterize the state of the research variables. The results of the study indicate that the sustainability of hydroponic farming in Kendari City is in the moderate category. Hydroponic farming in Kendari has demonstrated its capacity for sustainability from economic, social, and ecological perspectives. Nevertheless, there is room for enhancement in terms of sustainability from economic and ecological standpoints. From economic and ecological standpoints, sustainability is classified as moderate. Concurrently, sustainability from a social perspective is classified as high priority.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the utilization of brochures in the context of rice cultivation in Pangkuri Village, Rarowatu District, Bombana Regency. The population of this study consists of farmers residing in Pangkuri Village, with a total of 284 farmers included in the analysis. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a 15% error margin, resulting in a sample size of 38 individuals. The data was collected through a combination of survey techniques, documentation, and interviews, with the use of questionnaires. The research variable is the utilization of brochures in rice cultivation. The researchers employed descriptive analysis, utilizing class interval formulas, to address the research objectives. The results of the study indicate that the use of brochures in rice cultivation in Pangkuri Village is categorized as good, both as a source of information, a learning tool, and a source of inspiration for innovation, with the majority of farmers actively utilizing brochures to enhance their knowledge, skills, and agricultural productivity. Brochures have proven to be an effective medium for conveying technical information concisely and visually, ranging from cultivation techniques to environmental management, and encouraging farmers to adopt more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices. The role of brochures in various dimensions of farmer learning, from information dissemination, facilitating self-directed learning, to encouraging local innovation in agricultural practices. Simple printed media like brochures still hold high relevance in the digital age, especially in rural contexts with limited access to technology, and can serve as an effective communication strategy in community-based agricultural extension programs.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze and describe participatory extension services in food crop agricultural extension services in Konawe Regency. The research was conducted from September to December of 2023. The research location was purposefully selected in Konawe Regency. The population under consideration consisted of all 113 agricultural extension workers (extension workers specializing in food crops) and civil servants (ASN) in Konawe Regency. The sample was selected through a census (saturated sampling). The present study employed descriptive statistical analysis, utilizing the class interval formula. The participatory extension services variables in this study are described in three categories: (1) low/insufficient; (2) moderate/sufficient; and (3) high/good. The findings suggest that the implementation of participatory extension services in Konawe Regency falls within the moderate category. Food crop extension workers in Konawe Regency have effectively implemented participatory extension indicators; however, improvements are necessary to achieve a high category.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of agricultural extension workers in rice field agricultural extension in Baruga Village, Baruga District, Kendari City. The study population consists of 280 active rice farmers participating in agricultural extension programs. The sample size is 28 farmers (10% of the population), selected using simple random sampling. Data analysis employs descriptive statistics to describe the state of the study variables. The results of the study indicate that the performance of agricultural extension officers in rice farming extension in the Amohalo area in Baruga Village, Baruga District, Kendari City, is in the moderate category. Agricultural extension officers in Baruga Village, Baruga District, Kendari City, have demonstrated adequate or moderate performance in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of rice farming extension.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of agricultural extension workers in rice farming in Horodopi Village, Mowewe District, East Kolaka Regency. The population of this study consists of all rice farmers in the village, totaling 206 people. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error, resulting in 69 people. The sample in this study was taken using the simple random sampling method. The data collection techniques used in this study include documentation, interviews, and surveys using questionnaires. The research variable is the role of agricultural extension officers. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis methods. The results of the study indicate that the role of agricultural extension officers in the village. The results of the study indicate that the role of agricultural extension workers in Horodopi Village, Mowewe District, is generally categorized as good in terms of their roles as facilitators, innovators, motivators, and educators. A total of 81.15% of respondents rated the role of extension workers as very good in supporting the process of rice farming. Extension workers are not only a source of information but also active companions who encourage farmers to adopt modern technologies such as the jajar legowo planting system, balanced fertilization, and the use of pest-resistant superior varieties. This success is supported by the extension workers' ability to build effective communication, understand local needs, and apply participatory methods that motivate farmers to be independent and innovative. The combination of their roles as facilitators, innovators, motivators, and educators significantly enhances farmers' productivity, participation, and well-being, while also providing a mentoring model that can be replicated in other agricultural areas to achieve sustainable rice farming.

Paddy farming in Baruga Village, Baruga District, Kendari City has fulfilled the sustainability of economic, social and environmental aspects but the sustainability of economic aspects and sustainability of environmental aspects needs to be improved. Sustainability from the economic aspect and sustainability from the ecological aspect is in the medium category. As for the sustainability of the social aspect has been in the high category.

Paddy farmers in Baruga Village, Baruga District, Kendari City have had good capacity in rice farming from managerial, technical, and social aspects but need to be improved. The capacity of rice farmers from the managerial and technical capacity aspects is in the medium category. Meanwhile, the capacity of farmers from the social aspect is in the high category.

Abstract

The efficacy of agricultural development is predominantly contingent upon the strategic function of agricultural extension workers in enhancing farmers' knowledge, skills, and innovation. Farmers' satisfaction and favorable response to the performance of extension workers are pivotal factors in achieving dynamic, innovative, and competitive agriculture. The objective of this study is to ascertain the level of satisfaction among farmers in relation to the role of agricultural extension workers in rice field extension in Kasimpa Jaya Village, South Tiworo District, West Muna Regency. The research population comprised all 94 rice farmers residing in Kasimpa Jaya Village. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with an error rate of 10%, resulting in a sample size of 20 people. The sampling method employed was simple random sampling. The data were collected through a combination of interviews, documentation, and surveys administered via questionnaires. The research variables of interest were farmer satisfaction and the role of agricultural extension workers. The collected data were then subjected to a descriptive analysis. The results indicated that farmer satisfaction with the role of agricultural extension workers in Kasimpa Jaya Village was moderate, with high ratings for product quality and service, while the public emotional aspect was moderate. The role of agricultural extension workers is moderate, and their roles in education, motivation, facilitation, and counseling still need to be improved. Agricultural extension workers have played a fairly effective role in providing education and technical services; however, they have not been optimal in building emotional closeness and facilitating the needs of farmers as a whole.

Abstract

The agricultural sector plays a pivotal role in the economy and the general welfare of the population. The success of agricultural endeavors, as evidenced by the increased corn production in Kapu Jaya Village, is contingent upon the efficacy of agricultural extension workers. These extension workers are responsible for modifying behaviors, enhancing farmers' knowledge, and facilitating the overcoming of various production constraints. The objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of agricultural extension workers in Kapu Jaya Village, Palangga District, South Konawe Regency. The research population consists of all 97 corn farmers in Kapu Jaya Village, resulting in a sample size of 25 people. The sampling method employed was a simple random sampling technique. The data presented herein was collected through a variety of research methods, including surveys, interviews, and documentation. The research variable was the performance of agricultural extension workers. The collected data was then subjected to both descriptive and quantitative analysis. The results indicated that the performance of agricultural extension workers in Kapu Jaya Village was high in terms of preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The extension workers demonstrated proficiency in planning, implementing extension services tailored to the needs of farmers, conducting regular evaluations, and submitting reports. This high performance is indicative of the capacity of extension workers to enhance farmers' capabilities, fortify institutions, and promote augmented agricultural productivity. A structured planning approach, the implementation of adaptive extension methods, and the continuous evaluation of program effectiveness are essential for ensuring the success of agricultural extension programs at the village level.
